Most crafted gear won't be on the scale of raid gear, but it does compete fairly well with dungeon gear. All in all, the master crafted stuff is decent quality but when you start raiding you'll want to upgrade. There are some great web pages dedicated to answering a wealth of questions and eq2i is one of them. They have everything from crafting time lines to raid zones. I can't help with the Freeport server as I've never played there but I've heard the community there is a good one. Hope that helps.
