One of my characters is working on the Small Sampling quest and can't get the rock to spawn by killing Lureclaw and Gulp. Instead of a rock, a missing scout spawns. I have tried both Awakening instances and the scout spawns in both. There does not seem to be a clickable rock anywhere in the vicinity. It's been a few months, so I'm not completely sure, but I think my character may have betrayed to Qeynos after getting the Small Sampling quest in her journal. Could that have broken the quest since she is now a "good" aligned character? Is the scout spawning because she is good aligned even though she has the Small Sampling quest and not the Missing Scout quest in her journal? Is it possible that I'm just not seeing the rock? Would the Brethren questgiver offer the quest again if I deleted it from the journal to try again?
