macro usability

If I create a macro, it can only have a few icons, and then the button it just shows the icon. When I use a spell, the button for that spell has several automatic features which are essential to gameplay. The button has the icon of the spell. The button grays out and shows the refresh time of the spell as a portion of the button which is darker. Then, when the spell becomes available, the button does a subtle shining animation. When the spell is called for in a heroic opportunity, the button flashes. It seems to me that macros would be improved immensely if they could emulate this functionality, and this could be done with no extra work. Link the macro to an existing spell inside the macro, either at macro creation, or with a /command on the first line.
