Here We Go Again - Orc illusions!

After a long absence, I return to again plead and beg for an illusion of the orc model in my avatar.

I like what you all did with the orc skeleton illusion, allowing one to wear certain armor appearances, but I would much rather have an orc illusion like the one to my left, even if all it wears is that leather armor, similar to the orc ghost's uniform.

You need to up the ante and ask for playable orcs! :)
  3. ARCHIVED-kelvmor Guest

That is a bloody fantastic idea. You, Dave, and Cronyn would get to work on orc females or the lack thereof then!

    But seriously, please?
EDIT: You could do it for Nights of the Dead!
  4. ARCHIVED-kelvmor Guest

To clarify, you could do the illusion for Nights of the Dead. Though if you come up with a way to do playable orcs while still having them look like my aforementioned avatar on the left side of your screen, that would also be acceptable.

You know, that's a really good point. Where are the orc females? Excuse the crudeness, but how do Norathian orcs breed without any females? Do they just spring out of holes in the ground?
(And incidentally, I've yet to see any female fauns, or male dryads, or male naiads.)

The reasoning behind all female races like dryads and naiads are based in real life mythology, vice versa for the satyr (fauns), I'm pretty sure. As for orcs, there are two prevailing hypotheses: that orcs have to rely on human or elven women, and the offspring are pure orcs despite their mothers' heritage, or orcs, being a primarily patriarchal society, keep their women hidden away.*

The third idea is that orc females are indistinguishable from males by non-orcs. Either way, it is completely unlikely they just pop out of holes in the ground.

To be honest, I don't really care. I just want an orc illusion like my avatar for NotD. :\ I mean, come on, just imagine if these guys had their dark green skin!

*(Though, there is in-game evidence of the hidden orc females theory, from a book titled The Orcs of Norrath:
Of all the information I've collected about the orcs over the years, there is one thing that I have always found disturbing. No matter where I have gone, from the Commonlands all the way to Zek, I have never once spied a female orc. This causes me to believe that of all the countless orcs I've seen... I've only seen one half of their numbers.

I take it you missed my LotR (movie) reference (Gimli talking about dwarf women).
Oh well, I guess it was a little obscure.

That could make for a new adventure pack... Rise of the Orc Women. Feminism hits Deathfist Citadel!
With, of course, a proper orc illusion as the final quest reward.

So what is it you want? I've lost track over the years.
An illusion with the old model orc that works as whatever it is you are doing?
  10. ARCHIVED-ttobey Guest

I just had a thought, I bet if I did this to this it would make what you are doing with this work that and then. Let me try tomorrow.

This was easily the most straight-forward and descriptive solution I've yet seen presented.

Hmm used in a quest to spy on the deathfist orcs? with a non-quest illusion item being the final reward?

Not sure if I'm thinking of LOTR or some other book (or were they tortured elves in LOTR?), but aren't Orcs a-sexual? >.> I seem to remember reading hey were fungus based some where.. Maybe Warhammer... I dunno. But they might not really have genders is what I'm getting at. XD No mammaries for joo! ( boo b word is sensored? o.0)
hmm... I can't really find any thing about the origin of orcs in Norrath. :\ I'm assuming that there is some IRL mythology they were based on and might be what EQ's story for them is from too. Not even the LOTR fanbase has a clear idea where baby orcs (they call em orc imps) come from. SOme theory behind a nasty breeding queen underground, or a bunch of breeding females hidden some where, others that they spawn lil 'seeds' thet go underground and mature there (but others argue that was just to smooth over the movie version of them being dug up fully grown.) And the males and females look allike theory too.
I like the seeds theory. Reminds me of when i was very little and worried that if a guy and a girl use the same toilet, there could be babies developing in the sewer, all cold and lonely, and I needed to find a way into the sewer so i could addopt them all and have real kids at my tea parties instead of the stuffed purple hippo, the raggedy anne doll, and the life sized sleepy sue doll. Maybe even have real tea instead of empty cups!
    ** ahem** any way....
Any who, the explanation i get whenever i beg for a new playable race is the amount of glitchiness when it comes to character models and armor and having to specialise every apperance item in game to work with the new model, and at this point in the game there are an impossably huge number of apperance items, and the bugg reports would be over whealming. For instance, try a SK apperance helm on a froglok. I love it, personaly, but it freaks my hubby out a lil. =P Correction, he said all helms look weird on Froglocks. XD But i love it. ^_^ It adds to their frogginess.

I dunno. I remember that the original orc models wore the same armor and weapons as players. I figure that would make orc player characters easier.

I love you (and yes, just an old-style orc model illusion, preferably one that has an unlimited duration and can ride mounts and climb ladders and such; like what you did with the Rujarkian orc illusion).

Concerning orcs, what may be true in one setting may not necessarily be true in this one. Whatever the case, orcs are capable of spawning children with other races; Agtak in Deathfist Citadel is a testament to that.

Also, in orc mythology, Rallos Zek had took a piece from Tallon Zek and used that to form the first orc; essentially, all orcs are descended from Tallon, who is their most celebrated hero (and now, with the death of Rallos, their primary god).

That would be Warhammer. The Greenskins are technically genderless because they're fungus-based. They just happen to have male-type characteristics.
I adore the Greenies in WAR. They're freakin' hilarious.

Me personally, I don't like the idea of an entire race being comic relief. Orcs in EverQuest 2 are reasonably intelligent, and they're brilliant at tactics and strategy; they're not the sort of orcs to just gather in a disorganized horde and try to win out through sheer numbers, they're very disciplined, known for never swaying from the order of a superior.

But, again, thank you Ttobey! Can't wait to see your work come Nights of the Dead. :p
