That is why I found it so disappointing. It means losing all those rares we spent so much time harvesting. I could be using them to make house items. It sucks big time.
Yeah even if you could salvage, it would have been a material to make infusers, not rares. Since they opted not to have rares returned in salvaging in ToT expansion and only material to make infusers, the team said crafted items could not be salvaged to avoid crafters corning the market on infuser mats.
I obviously didn't know about the change in salvaging with the ToT expansion. I'd been collecting a ton of gear while waiting for a chance to take a day and start salvaging and transmuting lvl 100 gear. I guess I won't bother making gear in the future since it can't be salvaged or transmuted. That's going to save me a heck of a lot of play time that I can be doing rl activities.
