You played directly as the Ranger and Shadowknight generals who were leading the forces, so it technically wasn't you. At the end of the battle, both sides got ambushed by assassins of the Arm, and the item that the battle was being fought over was lost. The outcome never changed, so it wasn't time travel because we had no impact on how the events would have turned out.

If you were evil, you played as the shadowknight who was in command of the Dragoons. Regardless of who you played as, Assassins of the Hand came and killed you both. It was unavoidable. An action that you couldn't have avoided given the environmental circumstances.
