Is there a good site to look at different appearances of gear? I know that it won't all look 100% right, but just a general idea.

Here's a good place to start. Den Mum has all the crafted armor. You can see if any of the pieces are any look you'd like:
http://eq2.eqtraders.com/articles/news_page.php (can't create the link for some reason..you can cut and paste that into your browser).

I also will just dressing room things on the broker, as well. There isn't really a site that shows you all the gear in the game visually, but Lootdb (http://www.lootdb.com/) has all the links. You cut the link, paste it into your chat in game, and it shows you the item.

This isn't horribly helpful, I know, but it might give you a start - there is some nice looking crafted armor out there.

There's also http://www.eq2alchemy.com/closet/index.html but I don't think the site has anything but cloth.

The broker is a pretty excellent way to browse, although I expect it's pretty tiring for people who don't wear robes (which cover basically everything else, so you can do most of your outfit browsing by searching just one item). The only down side is that the items which are really rare drops and/or have unique appearances but aren't powerful enough to be exciting or profitable may not be something people bother to put up for sale.

I enjoy shopping for Just The Right Appearance. That, of course, ALWAYS means a kilt! :) Erm... anyway, I get to the broker, and I use the Dressing Room Window to try on clothes. I keep a notepad handy to take notes on items that I like, then pull an outfit together.

And of course, there's pure appearance gear that is level 1 cloth than anyone can wear. I've collected a bunch of examples of plate appearance armor that anyone can wear. Also many appearance shields, plus a bunch more appearance-only shields anyone can use. All of these with pictures.

Over the years, I have put together a number of outfits for folks on the forums who were after a specific look. To do this, you set the search for the wearer's class and level, then shop! If you have a specific effect you are trying to achieve, tell us about it, post pics from elsewhere on the web that illustrate what you mean etc. and let us power shoppers bring back suggestions.
