    Let’s reserve some names!

The opening of a new server generally goes hand in hand with inevitable naming problems. This name reservation system should alleviate some of those pain points by giving a bit of structure to the opening of servers and the ability to reserve the name you want without feeling rushed to do so.

This system will help prevent name-grabbing by people who don't play using that name. It will also help reduce the first-day load on login servers by people who aren’t really looking to play on day one but are looking to reserve their names.

Below is a breakdown of how this system works:
    • For 499 DBC, a name can be reserved for an existing character with a minimum level and played time.
      • The character’s name must pass all character creation name validity checks.
      • The character must be level 50 or higher for any of the character’s personas.
      • Tiered Played Time Requirements determine when the current character's name can be reserved.
        • When you try to reserve a name, it will check against the active tier and won't allow the reservation if you have less played time.
          • 200 days (4800 hours) or more of played time reservations will open on 4/24/2024 at 12:00 p.m. PDT
          • 100 days (2400 hours) or more of played time reservations will open on 5/1/2024 at 12:00 p.m. PDT
          • 40 days (960 hours) or more of played time reservations will open on 5/8/2024 at 12:00 p.m. PDT
          • 10 days (240 hours) or more of played time reservations will open on 5/15/2024 at 12:00 p.m. PDT
      • On launch day, any non-reserved names are first-come, first-served.
    • The “/reservename” command can be used to open a window on demand to reserve your name as well as view your existing reservation(s) and current and next reservation tiers.
    • Characters with recently changed names will not be eligible for 30 days after the name change.
    • Reservations will last a year after the server launches.
    • Reservations will be consumed when the character with that name is created.
      • You cannot get this reservation back once you have created a character with this reservation. If you delete or rename the character on the new server, this name will be released and will be able to be used by any account.
    • Reservations can only be made from Live servers. Test characters cannot be used to reserve names.

Very unfair of DBG to penalize the people that tried out multiple servers and used the same name on each server on the same single account. Going with only the most time played on a single server for the name was a lazy choice to make.

LOL okay. And your suggestion is what exactly... they calculate total time spent over all servers on a certain name and use that as the criteria? Honestly people on this forum would complain about finding $10,000 on the ground because they'd rather have found $20,000.

I am suggesting that if the intent was to allow a name to have a higher chance to get to the person that has played that name the longest, its stupid to make it the most days played only on a single server so yes it should be calculated using the total days that account has played that name.

What even is this? Ive been playing games for a long long time and ive never seen such a complicated naming requirement, this name requirement is longer then most system requirements listed for AAA games. Someone wanna break it down for me in simpler terms?

requires same named toon, same server for 200 days of playtime... kinda unlikely as mentioned i played mostly continuously since 2003

Does this imply there will be more servers opening? Otherwise what's the point of spending time developing a system that will never or rarely be used?

Its to get you to pay 499 DB cash if you want to reserve your name before the day of server launch.

So they can do it every year for the yearly TLP's, because your name auto expires after a year (if you don't force free it)

The steps to use it are:
    1) Log on a character that has a name you want to reserve on one of the upcoming servers
    2) Use the command /reservename
    3) Purchase a reservation with the "Buy Now" button
    4) Select one of the listed servers (currently Teek or Tormax)
    5) Use the purchased reservation

If someone with the same character name hasn't already reserved that name, using the above steps will prevent any other accounts from creating a character with your reserved name on your selected server for up to 1 year.

You can currently only reserve a name if you have a character with that name that has at least 200 days played (logged in). In 1 week, the played requirement drops lower.

So... if it rejects your name because someone else has it, do you get an immediate refund of the station cash or whatever they are calling that these days?-

I do wish it was possible for the name reservation system to have been done in a way that would enable you to use a different account for the name reservation.

Sure, we can pay the DBC on account #1 to reserve the name, and we can create that character name under the same account and then login with two computers to delete the reserved character name right before hitting enter on the character creation of the actual account we want to use it on...

This is actually hilarious. I totally missed when this was announced that this isn't a good will thing for the community to prevent name stealing or whatever and is actually instead just a new monetization avenue. Wow.

I would hope that the window would show ineligible before you pressed buy if someone else already had it.

IMO. Each All Access account should be allowed 2 free reservations. Otherwise, I get that the 499 DBC price point is there to prevent abuse.

If a character meets all of the other criteria re: play time and character level, how is reserving the name abuse? We're talking about 200 days of in game time at the highest tier, I'm not understanding how that's abusable.

Because if it's free, people will automatically reserve names for which they meet the criteria. Lots of characters across all servers will fulfill those requirements. (10 days on the final tier is paltry). By charging a fee, it forces people to be more discriminating. It prevents the problem of people reserving names and not playing the character (this has been mentioned ad nauseam). If you have the money to splurge on name reservations, good for you and the studio.
