    Norrath’s version of Earth Day.

Rathe Day is dedicated to the conservation of flora and fauna all over Norrath. It’s no secret that Norrath has endangered species all over due to environmental and habitat changes as the population of adventurers grows and flourishes.

Displacement happens all the time for these poor living beings, and it’s time we put our feet down and did something to help! During this Rathe Day Event, we’d like you to read all about the affected species highlighted and how you can help. Be the hero they need and step up to help their survival.
The Owlbear population has begun migrating. It’s up to you to find out what has happened to cause this unnatural occurrence. What else could be affected by this sudden change in behavior?

These quests can be found in Hollowshade Moor at Korah Kai. There are 3 new quests:
    • Owlbear with me for a bit
      • The owlbears on Luclin have been acting in a peculiar way as of late. They are known as a capstone species which change how they act when environments become inhospitable. Learn about what their actions mean for the wildlife of Luclin.
    • Softer than Othmir Fur
      • Conservation can take on many forms. One of those forms may seem inhumane but it is necessary to preserve life. Even creatures from other realms will need a new home. Learn about one of the sweetest creatures on Norrath, if you’re brave enough that is.
    • Lessons of Luclin Lichen
      • Did you know that lichen is a symbiotic relationship between two other creatures? Did you know that on Norrath, there are hundreds of thousands of variations due to how diverse the world is? Discover what other amazing features the lichen on Luclin has, and what other creatures rely on it.
This event begins on April 22 15, 2024 at midnight, and will end on May 10 April 28, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

What a wonderful idea to promote conservation, raise awareness, and encourage everyone to do what they can to fight climate change. It's a very real problem, and every one of us must certainly do our part to curb/reduce the effects.

I demonstrated in a previous post (page 2 Producer's Letter where this was announced) just how impactful Daybreak's Truebox policy may be when it comes to climate change (without acknowledgement or response). It may ultimately be responsible for the equivalent of 44 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year, based on just some estimated boxing numbers. Granted, this is a drop in the bucket when compared to the national numbers, but we all need to do our part right? It would be easy to pass the buck and responsibility on to your consumers, they're the ones boxing after all, but do remember who taught them to box, and designed a game around them boxing before doing so.

Has Daybreak done an environmental impact assessment on the Truebox policy? I'd love to see how that estimate lines up with real boxing numbers and what the actual impact looks like. I'd also love to see a justification for its continued use despite the environmental unfriendliness, especially when California is one of the front lines feeling the effects.

you sure on that start date chief? i did these quests last week

Technically the quests are well made, but ...

it is inproper that in the first quest, owlbears are considered as avians (birds), and not as bears. Owlbears are cleary bears with an owl like head (beak, yellow eyes, ears). It is like considering a tigerfish as a tiger, and not as a fish just because of it's name. The second part of the name does define the race, and not the first one.

In the second quest, ursarachnid hatchlings do appear in original zones like WK, SK, and Lake Rathetear, even that they do belong to the CotF expansion with the ETWK zone.

In the third quest, an othmir merchant is travelling regularly from the Cobalt Scar to Luclin, which is strange.

Frankly, my impression is, that the dev(s) who wrote those quests are not very familiar with the world of Norrath, and fauna generally.

    Yeah, uh...

... A wizard did it (tm)

(which would absolutely make sense, a wizard teleporting random stuff around because he was drunk)

Rewards leave a lot to be desired, petamorph for each one, could really have used some variation. Who ever is creating these needs to use a lot more imagination for rewards.

Could also had been a druid, or the othmir is a druid itself. The Nexus and the Cobalt Scar zones do have port locations, so that could make some sense. Still a bit weird for an othmir to port around, even when being a merchant. It has added a new aspect to the game.

Btw, do druid and wizard teleports produce carbon dioxide ? If so, that would be a very bad quest for Rathe Day. Fanatic believers might not be amused.

When you have to switch on 6 computers with their monitors to do the same that can be done with just one computer because darkpaw has decided that everything has to be truebox and you have to use a computer per char, your carbon imprint is higher. It's not hipocrisy.

Let's have an example, you need a car for mobility so you buy a 3 tons car and you buy it electric. That's not green mobility, you don't see smoke but the car has a great carbon imprint. The car has to be built and the energy has to be produced, and a good part of electricity pool produced everyday comes from poluting industry. You can have your mobility needs satisfied in a confortable way without the need of a enormous car, you have tried to greenwash your choice.

What you say is like saying "Don't be hipocrital, stop breathing and you won't polute".

Sad but true. Owlbears are one of the classic fantasy beasts, since the 1st edition of D&D. I wish they paid a little more attention to these details, especially in a game with a legacy like EQ's.

For me it would have made more sense for them to be travelling to hallis another cold climate. The moon is rather warm with lots of deserts.

Owlbears, canonically, lay eggs. So... do with that information what you wish.

    Hello everyone!

The original post has been changed to reflect a mistake in the dates. The Rathe Day event began on April 15th at midnight PDT, and will end on April 28th at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

    We apologize for the confusion.

    As mentioned in this thread:
    Rathe Day Calendar Mistake?

We believe it did NOT start on April 15 on live servers but only after the game update on April 17.

The backside of Luclin is always dark so it should be very cold there, with lots of ice and snow everywhere, but it isn't. I think to remember that Katta Castellum even has palm trees.

Any proof for that theory, or is your theory just based on the current event quest ?
  17. Monkeychunks Augur

My Owlbear has a secret pocket but he is from an era before Everquest. It is called DND!
  18. Canloe Nusback Journeyman

Like the common brimstone butterfly who is only named after the color of brimstone (sulfur). The Tarantula Hawk, which is a parasitic predator wasp that does eat tarantulas, got named after a hawk, and both can fly. When looking at an owlbear it is clear that they are bears. Do bears lay eggs and build nests ? ...
