Report for Spam Messages does nothing?

On Oakwynd the same 10 people spam literally every channel to sell AoE Power leveling and even though you report the message for spam nothing happens. Is this just a dead button or what?

I try to ignore them but they keep making new level 1's to spam for Power level.

All that does is if enough DIFFERENT people click it for the same person, it gets hidden with (SPAM) instead of seeing their spiel. Still see that spam thing though.

You have an unlimited ignore list, I suggest you put it to use.

Maybe feasible once the population drops off on a TLP, but during peak expansions / play time you'd literally spend all day ignoring people. Its more realistic to just drop all the public channels. Some people ran bots for months creating a lvl 1, spamming, then deleting it.

One of the things that attracted me and others I'd guess to TLPs is the promise of increased monitoring for cheating and bad behavior since they were separating the people that gave them money via subscriptions from the F2P. That ship has sailed.

It usually is still an improvement since people don't want to get an account banned, just less so. If they still do it, bans are by payment method. If you have 3 accounts on one card and it gets a ban, they used to ban all accounts associated with that card.

It still seems to work for a lesser extent for cheating too. I see some people I suspect of cheating disappear. I'm not positive since I've never gone through the process myself, but they disappear from the forum too. It may have something to do with your forum use tied to your official account but it could just be sour grapes.

I've never really seen a lot of bad behavior on any TLP relative to Live. Vicious competition but mostly within the rules. No racial slurs, no misogyny. Pretty clean for an online game. Only real problem is the RMT type stuff you mention and I use the ignore function Doranur_Aleguzzler mentions liberally.

I haven't seen PL spam in a few days. It's because I keep my ignore window open, and as soon as I see someone spam, I add them to the list. It takes seconds, even while you are playing. It can be done without interruption. Failure to understand that, is simply a failure on your part.

Seems hyperbolic. How many characters do you think the PL people have and do you really think they are creating lvl 1s each day to spam chat? They aren't, there would be no need to do so, people who put them on ignore aren't interested in the services anyway.

Well, I tested and it takes me about 3 seconds to open up the ignore list and type in a name. Maybe we'll call it 5 seconds if they have some long or awkwardly spelled name. To give you the benefit of the doubt here, I'll assume you type really slowly, and it takes you 10 seconds to type in an average character name.

At 10 seconds per ignore, it'd take you one minute to ignore 6 people.

At the same rate, it'd take you one hour to ignore 360 people.

In a 24 hour period you could ignore 8,640 people.

Do you have some kind of chat log to back this up? There's over 8,000 unique names spamming your general chat per day? What server are you on? This sounds wild, I'd love to see it.

They were spamming fake Krono prices with the level 1's and yes I do 'really think' it because i watched it happening (meaning i watched the actual characters being created to do the spam) and I submit all the evidence. So, fair that its slightly different since it was Krono spam and not PL spam, but its the same problem and you couldn't put them on ignore since it was always a new character.

A quick way to add someone to your ignore list without having to type their name is like this:

    - Click on their name in the chat window. A popup will come up with various options.
    - Click Tell. That will start a /tell line in your chat window.
    - Type Shift-Home to go to the beginning of the line. Delete /tell and replace with /ignore. Hit enter

Now that person is on your ignore list.

What they really need to do is add an ignore option to the popup that comes up when you click someone's name in the chat window. Then we could ignore someone with a couple of clicks.

The bottom line is this is making Darkpaw money. They could set a server wide REGEX filter that captures and deletes anything about powerleveling. But, they don't. Why? Because the more krono circulating around the more they make my friends.

EDIT: And I'm not saying Darkpaw is greedy - they need the money to run the game. The alternative is they charge you $49.99 a month to play.

Two things will go a long way (the AE PL spam in oakwynd is a pain, for example). Before Bazaar there was someone (of course non-automated, as we all know everyone in Oakwynd, especially the 24x7 Siren's Grotto specialists true-boxxed 20 chars a pick 24x7, as well as the tight balls of 30-chars with odd names who AFKd in nexus with bard song invis!) who would make a lvl 1 char, auction WTS krono for some silly low price, ( you try sending a tell within a few seconds, the char will be offline), make another level 1 char, do the same. 24x7 for months.

    - Include "Ignore" as an option in the name click, so we can ignore in two clicks.
    - Make ignore list account-wide for the REPORTER
    - Make the ignore account-wide for the char REPORTED also. i-e, I report "snqsxxy" then the ACCOUNT which made the char should go on my ignore list, so any char current and future from that account is on automatically on my "unlimited" ignore list. This is logical, but hey, I bet some lame armchair fanboi will tell me how this is "impossible".

Since when? There was a limit for many years and as far as I know, still exists.

I'm sure there is someone that has meticulously catalogued every change and every set of patch notes in the past 25 years, but it ain't me. Just like when they added the ability to add timestamps to chat windows, or not only adjust chat font size by right clicking a chat window, but adding in FIVE additional font sizes. I was just telling a friend the other day that I had almost gotten to the point of needing a bigger font size, and then I just happened to see it. I was like sonofa....

So no, I can't tell you when they did it. It may have been in the last couple years, because I don't remember being able to go more than 20 on Mischief, but now I only ever see the one guy I didn't block spamming PL.

They uncapped the Ignore list when they added "Spammer Slayer" to Banestrike. You complete the accomplishment by adding 5000 spammers to your ignore list. The reward is "Mirror of Spam Reflection". It allows you to reflect any spam messages back to the sender. ;)

I don't remember the last time I heard someone spending $18 on a Krono from DPG. Every thing I see is you buy krono elsewhere for $8-$10 and give it back to the PLers so they can resell it to you again a few days later.
  17. xxar Augur

This is why Krono's need to be changed to once there traded one time , they become no trade and consume only.

This removes the resell factor , the reason to bot and improves DBG bottom line.

It also does nothing to the original intent of the Krono being for game time.

dunno you think they magic them out of nothing? they were sold by DPG so they made money on them... and the 100+ kronos I bought ingame I used for gametime for my boxcrew during Phinnys lifetime and I know others do the same... some nub that can't stand to farm and has more money than brains spend more money and I get "free" playtime = win win if you ask me

  19. OldTimeEQ1 Augur

This is a weird flex. So people who can afford fifteen dollars instead of hours of farming are nubs with more money than brains? Really, a VERY weird flex. Did you maybe consider their time probably is better spent making actual money, and they play EQ as a hobby?

Some people refuse to "cheat" and buy krono from 3rd party sites (which iirc is still not allowed). Not that they ever would, but i would bet if they released the sales numbers for kronos you would be surprised.

Even in the krono space you can see people selling them for up to $1.50 less than other well known krono sellers and people still pay the premium because in their mind, they "know" they wont get ripped off.

Also i would be curious to know what the legality would be (not according to a EULA, but more so if something huge were to happen and it went to court) regarding reselling an item that you have paid money for. Regular items in game, characters, even accounts all require time to obtain and do not have a real world value. But when i purchase a krono, im paying my real money for an item that now has a value (of 1 month of gametime), isnt just available in 1 game, but across multiple, and is tradeable.
