The horrible argument that MMO / RPG need microtransactions to survive.

You live in some utopian society where you think capitalistic ideals are evil and a company should only be able to sell certain products to people. A company can make its own products and people have a conscious choice to buy them or not. No one is forcing people to buy these products. If a child buys an item they shouldn't, that's on the parent for allowing a credit card being attached to the account, not the company offering the product.

The only ridiculous thing is evoking shoes as a defense for microtransactions and then accusing others of being off topic.

The only thing ridiculous is the fact you have zero self accountability for your compulsory buying. When in regret, blame the world when you should be blaming who you see in the mirror.

Oh no, EQ has sells ornaments to make characters look different. They're forcing me to put my credit card information for them wahhhh. I can't control my fingers typing in the info and pressing buy.

Oh, good lord. Gamers who point out the predatory nature of microtransactions and loot boxes, in line with psychologists, are now "anti-capitalists".

I have heard it all now. Everything from shoe addictions, to anti-capitalism, is used as a defense for the monetization of games through cash shops.

Comedy gold. God help you guys if you ever have the misfortune of having to debate someone in real life.

So...videogames are bad. We should just ban them or put age limits to be able to purchase them, like, say, 18 or 21, because we all know that you suddenly become mature enough to handle yourself at those ages. Heck, let's just roll on back to the Middle Ages, and do away with all of this stuff.

Anytime you come to ForumQuest, you like to stir stuff up. You seem to hate EQ. Perhaps you loved it at one time and felt betrayed by the DB store, or even the LoN card game when it was introduced. Whatever it was, it is clear you hate it now. So, please, for the love of Brell, stop coming back here to keep stirring stuff up.

As an aside, did you adjust your, ahem, unmentionable at character creation? I wonder how many under-aged kids did. I hope you are on Larian's site throwing as big a deal about that exploiting kids as you are here talking about microtransactions.

It is still extra content that they expect players to pay for on day one which just makes it a microtransaction with a different name. It still has microtransactions even if it is a single one. On steam you pay one price for the game and a second price if you want the extra content.

And how did the person that sold it in game get it? By opening up heritage crates for random loot until they happened to get it. The fact that they can turn around and sell it to someone else doesn't change that it came from a random loot box.

What do these complaints about an EA game have to do with Daybreak studios and EQ? Completely different games. FIFA isn't even an MMOG. None of the DB games has the same type of loot boxes present in EA games nor the types of required microtransactions either.

Multiple times it has been pointed out in this thread that the items in the DB Marketplace for EQ are not the same as in games like FIFA and other EA titles.

Or are you confusing EQ with EA?

You must not like expansions, because if they took away KR sales and the DB store this game is done no longer profitable with the small player base it has.

The original EQ dev team and the players would have been horrrifed at the thought of microtransations. I remember years ago when GU Comics artist Woody Ahearn took John Smedley to task and called for a boycott of EQ.

Smed went into damage controle mode and had the good sense to hold an EQ guild summit after that.

Today, that would never happen because of the apathy of both parties in this bizzare marriage. The EQ community of the early years had a gold rush vibe complete with thrill seekers and wide-eyed explorers. Feedback and suggestions were welcomed. Not anymore. At best, the EQ community of today is like the bar in Cheers full of regulars, at worst a hospice. Eventually most sane people saw the light and had the good sense to move on to WoW and other MMOs.

Somewhere along the journey the video game industry lost its way and profits ahead of players. Let's not kid ourselves, milking players via oily monetization and FTP schemes is paramount at MMO studios. Game design is distant second. Given all the insane amount of revenue that Darkpaw makes from EQ for the effort expended, you'd expect commensurate gratitude and customer appreciation. At least Vegas gamblers and whales are treated with respect and get all kinds of comps and special treatment for all the money they spend at the casinos. We get an exp bonus weekend every couple of months. I guess for some, that's enough. ;)

You literally quoted someone else and attached my name to it. Thats just straight up libel. Again proving you're bad faith arguments. Disgraceful, disingenuous, and disgusting

You can't even debate anyone properly on a forum. You conflate loot boxes to a benign ornament shop; You remark on predatory behavior yet have not given a specific example of it by DBG; You misrepresent people and quotes; You lie or slant facts to meet your agenda.

I think that would be what they meant. There are enough folks like me that sell what we get from crates for plat so if you can make plat in game you can buy the items if you find a seller.
  13. Corwyhn Lionheart Guild Leader, Lions of the Heart

And folks with open minds here may disagree with you simply because they disagree with you not because their mind is made up or set in stone... they just disagree with you. It happens.

BUT the person buying it in game didn't have to buy the loot box. Folks can get lots of crate items and have never spend any DBC for them free with their sub or purchased.

That doesn't change the fact that the only way for the items to come into the market is for someone to open a random item loot crate which is my point.
  16. Waring_McMarrin Augur

And that isn't the point, rather it is that the items in question come from random loot item crates that someone has to buy.

Reasonable and polite disagreement are one thing. Vicious personal attacks and uncalled for insults are quite another. The level of harrassment and abuse that some forum posters are subjected to on a daily basis is unacceptable and by the way are clear violations of the forum rules and guidelines. Even worse, there are a few forum veterans that seem to "like" these repeat offenders replies. Shame on them for enabling this chronic bad behaviour to continue.

If I was a new EQ player or a potential EQ new player and I witnessed this level of forum toxicity, I would run as fast I can from EverQuest and seek out a MMO community that is more welcoming and inclusive.
  18. minimind The Village Idiot

Agreed. Here are some examples of insults that you should never accept as normal communications.

  19. Highwizard Augur

So which ones are welcoming and inclusive by your standards? I sure have not found 1 and i have played many.

For those of you who do like Baldur's Gate and Realms of Arkania (DSA), there is polish MMORPG called Broken Ranks (activate cookies !) that seems to have a good turn based combat system. It is FTP but has also a platinum currency that could be bought for small benefits (similar to perks). It does also drop ingame tho.
