What exactly do you mean by "failing"? Once you give it to him, you can say "insist", get it back, then go turn it in to the other guy. The NPC speaks in gnomish, so maybe that's where the confusion is?
Very same issue for all of my characters as well. The quest is now in a dead loop at the point of receiving Steaon Alarenier's Report. Coglixar will not accept the report. If it's deleted (or not), and I receive another bag to turn in, still doesn't work. The solution here, Daybreak, is to *never* implement quests that have alternate methods embedded. Your code is unable to handle multiple critical paths. If it can't be managed, DON'T DO IT EVER to begin with. Beyond frustrating spending 2+ hours on the quest to have it lock and completely fail. We repeatedly see these types of failures in quest design. Again, if it can't be coded to not fail, don't do it to begin with. Keep it simple so there are not bugs and failures you have to fix.
Exactly what lodestar posted is happening to me. I removed the quest and got it again. I will not do the alternative method; I will wait the day.
tbh, I anticipated that doing the faster method would or should have a % failure....call it the price of impatience. When I figured it out on beta, I fully anticipated that Coglixar would scoff at me for taking a short cut instead of waiting like he demands. But ya, I could see this being a bug too. >.<
Consuming 2+ hours of players' time, only to have a loophole failure with no quest text indicating the actual failure should be considered a bug. Unless, DB intentionally wants people to be frustrated, quit, and play a different game.
Just curious...the folks having problems with this...was it before or after they did the hotfix on Thursday?
It was yesterday (so after the hotfix) when we did this for 4 of us at the same time. 3 had no trouble but I was the lucky/unlucky one who bugged out. Regetting and redoing the entire quest worked the second time.
Makes me wonder if people were having problems orginally, or if the hotfix stealth changed something. When I did it on launch night, there were 6 toons in the group and all 6 completed without issue.
