Lockout for Requesting but Not Completing Mission - Intended?

    So, I requested the When One Door Closes mission. However, I was unable to complete it and dropped out of the mission. The rest of the group went ahead and completed it.

    Even though I dropped the mission before it was completed I got a five hour lockout.

    I have only seen this happen for this mission. So, somehow this one is special?

    Now, assuming this is intended as a way to prevent people from getting the mission for others but not themselves, while I'm not in favor of this, I feel that at least have the NPC say when you talk to them to request it something like,

    "Once you begin this investigation, you won't be able to try again for days*, even if you have to leave and your friends finish it".

    *Days being EQ time, since five hours in Earth time is 4.17 days in Norrath.

    iirc , and i could be wrong if you reached the point of lockout as in " this task locks here" and if you drop out you get the lockout timer anyway ..

    also if you drop out but remain in task but log out cant remember if that will give you lockout as well and wont give you credit for the win if your group finished task ..

    this is all circumstantial and theoritical ..

    Last time I did the task, there was no lockout until it was finished (chest opened). So, it's not that.

    And I left the task before the fight even started.

    I got a lockout timer when the group finished and opened the chest, even though I was not in the task at that time.

    as I remember the rule is if you attacked something in a mission and this instance is won you will get lockout no matter if you dropped the task.

    though they made that change a few years ago so that if you get a mission/raid even if you drop out before it started you still get lockouts. it was to stop people form getting a mission for people dropping and regetting one for themself?

    Going back over 20 years of patch notes with the search terms 'replay timer' , 'lockout' , 'lock out' and I cannot find that.

    I've never noticed this issue before. So if anyone knows when / how / which missions, that would be helpful.

    This is intentional and was a change that occurred in RoS because people were dropping mission tasks (particularly the Overthere mission), opening the chests, and then repeating the missions for loot/VP keys. They now work the same way as raids, where every character that was in the task/raid receives the lockout even if they drop beforehand. This is not specific to One Door Closes.

    I remember it like Sancus said, that this was one of the changes in response to Cactusgate. The specific change is in the patch linked below, where they also made it so you can't loot items in an instanced zone after you leave the quest/task/mission required for entering the instance.

    Ah, I seem to remember something like that. And everyone suggested just making opening the chest give the lockout, as it does for 99% of missions, which solves that problem. Because you can't get the loot until you open the chest, so opening the chest giving the lockout prevents repeating for loot/keys.

    Yet, it seems Darkpaw went for the overkill chainsaw rather than the surgical easy fix.

    not the only time. remember in COTF. people would get ha run them and drop then before final hail cause of the ex they get from mobs. so they could chain them with no lockouts. so what they do killed the xp from each mob and put like 95% of total xp from the ha on the final hail.

    You don't get kicked as soon as you drop the mission. People would drop mission but stay in group, open chest, loot before getting punted from zone. The chest is locked to ADV loot not to the mission winners.

    As soon as you are not in the mission you are unable to loot any items. This is the way it's been for a while. So stay in group all you want, once the chest opens if you were not in the task while it opens, you can't loot anything.

    Raids are different. You can add people who can loot.

    I don't know about missions, but it's not retroactive. For example for the Demi-plane of Blood you can request instances to help people with the 2.5, and as long as you don't participate in the win you don't get locked out. It's useful since players are strong enough to beat Mayong alone now, but that's not possible for some of the earlier events in the zone.

    I'll always remember that as "that one time a ton of people were super dumb." I warned people I knew not to do it.

    It's a shame they had to do this, but this is why we can't have nice things sometimes. If task add sellers ruin that I won't be pleased.

    The Smoke trials do it amazingly.
