Beware of any new SK asking to raid - Ninja looter

On Tunare we had a recent SK server transfer in, with an alt ranger this past weekend. He was interested in guild and a chance to raid. We knew he was sub-par gear is something that can be fixed with TOL group ores and opportunity for raid gear. When raids started we informed him that as a new raider he was limited to 1 piece of gear a raid night till he was active to X time. The first raid event was fine, we had a rotting piece of gear that he ended up with.

Towards the end of second raid, he announced in guild he was moving on - being limited to one piece of gear a night was not what he wanted and was going to other guilds that were interested in him. Once he made that announcement, he left raid about 5 minutes later (since we get various link dead's throughout the night, this was not abnormal and he did say he was moving on and it was right as we won event). When we opened chest for those to loot their items, he was still in zone, waited, and looted. He took both Calcified Bloodied Ores, and then the legs, and wrist. Our people went to loot and the chest was missing items and that's when we realized what this character had done.

Please be extra aware of any SK/Ranger combo that come to your server. I found out after the raid was over that this same person was in general asking to buy loot rights to ore's as he needed to gear up quickly.

This occurred on Tunare on 8/11/2022 Thursday evening during our raid time 7-10 pm ET. Petition has been filed.

Why didn't the leader kick him out of the expedition prior to opening the chest? He would be kicked out of the instance in about a minute and opened chest or not he wouldn't be in the zone to loot. Relying on a "left the raid" message is not a sure way to know he's left. Alt-Z and remove him from the expedition.

And a blatant raid chest robbing happened in last 23 years. And I still can't figure out why people do that - burning out their reputation for a piece of raid loot? Really strange way of thinking.

Looking back, once he said he was moving on, we probably should have. A ninja looter was not on the mind, winning event was since we were at the last 5 minutes of fight. Sometimes things are just a bit chaotic. But he's pretty much toast on this server now, we assume he'll try and move again.

    Wow.

    Thanks for the warning.

Hope the guy burns out quickly and leaves EQ.

It's sad that these things happen. Sadly, reputation have less value nowadays. Specially since a bad reputation, char can be transferred to FV and his raid items converted into real life money.

If you don't like this kinda behaviour, stay away from TLP. I have seen ppl selling their reputation for 20 bucks... and who cares, they can just make a new char and carry on ;)

You raise an excellent point that would have safe-guarded against this kind of ninja looting.

Should make it "best practice" to dz remove anyone who is actually leaving the raid anyway.

People still don't use the advanced loot window. Amazing xslia. Still doing it the old fashioned way? Get on board.

It's never fair to blame the victim.
  9. Spacemonkey555 Augur

Pointing out that it's easily preventable is not victim blaming, people needed to hear that and think about it, in fact that's pretty much the reason the victim is here posting, to raise awareness.

Their reply did nothing but blame Xslia and insult them.

Was it technically untrue? Would kicking from dz or using /advl not have solved the problem?

... and being called old fashioned is a horrible victim blaming insult?

On events like Primal Vampire, it makes sense to have free-grap enabled in adv-loot, so tanks can quickly grab those aggro-thingies from Feasts that affects Ticks.

I think most guilds assumes proper behavior from their members and sometimes forget that ninja-looting is a thing.
Tbh, it is kinda rare you hear about it nowadays...

E'ci Public has existed for around 20 years now and a handful of the current active raiders date back to the Ashorty days, people resist change.

Regardless of how this kind of action could be prevented, it is absolutely certain that this kind of person should be forbidden from entering any raid guild.

Without any context, why would anyone in their right mind want someone who is simply known as a ninja looter in their guild, regardless of the situation?

This is 100% correct. We haven't had a ninja looting in years. Last one I can recall was someone accidently hitting [ loot all ] instead of [ link all ] at the end of a RoS Cactii fight, and the person in question was horrified.

    SK didn't have a name?
  17. Jumbur Improved Familiar

There are forum rules about naming and shaming, and I suspect most ninja-looters changes name often anyway.
  18. Stymie Pendragon

Back when they first allowed name changes, they also created a website to track just such people. You could search these people by any name they had eved had, and see each name change and server hop they had done.

It was different back then, because Brad was the one doing the naming and shaming. :)
