Do you want to keep making your own spells above 40 or get to skill 102 cheaply and you did not use the above to get to 54 to make spells as you leveled, here is a decent path: Get out some Int gear – I did the below with 147 Int, 47 Raw Fine Runic Hides (spells these craft are already sold by LFay pixie’s), 70 Saltpeter (easy farm in Lavastorm), and 70 Crystalized Sulfur (vendors have tons) with a splash of ~200pp (after selling back successes). Below the vial of pure water will be kept and you will fail – so start out buying 20 empty vials and get more as needed for the combines. Notice your items returned on fails and adjust accordingly. Vendors rarely have a ton of Crystalized sulfur in classic. People know what it is for and they sell it in the tunnel. It also drops pretty rarely and only from higher level mobs, it gets more common later. The planes are the best place to find it. The best way to level research is to be your guild's researcher. For the low low price of making guildmates their spells at cost, you get funneled all the spell hides and sulfur your little heart desires. Better yet, be in a guild with a guild researcher and funnel them your hides and sulfur so they make you spells at cost.
