Honest Question, Returning Player, Wastelands

I am reaching out for some suggestions / thoughts to help me to find a way to stay in game. I am a solo tank with all xpacs.

I have been gone 4 / 5 years. I returned about 3 months ago and have managed, through hook and by crook, to claw my way up to L 115.

I belong to a guild, but no one is doing anything but raiding.

    I am stumped.

Every day I look for people to group with. Almost, exclusively, the only folks I find during the day are people 6 boxing. I think that raiding and boxing are great and it probably accounts for the continuing life expectancy of EQ. But for a player in my situation, I find myself day after day sitting doing nothing.

I am looking for suggestions as to what steps I could take to find something to do.

This is not a whine post. It is a legitimate effort to find a way to enjoy EQ and stay engaged.

TY for your thoughts / comments.

Leveling and progression use to be a function of the guild - a socialist approach. Somewhere down the line, that all became the functions of player.

This is the usual summer slump, worse than ever this year as many are finally allowed to go on vacation as restrictions have been lifted. Many have also shifted their playtime outside of raids to the new random loot TLP server. CoV was such a small expansion many were finished with it months ago so have found other things to do with their time.

Only suggestion I have to you is send a tell to those in your guild boxing and see if they will drop a box for you.
Try and start a group with those in general chat.
Try and arange a group with your guild before logging in
Go back and do some of the content you are missed for heroic AAs

Beta and the new expansion are on the Horizon, tons of grouping when those come out.

Have ideas for doing something beyond current content missions. I am in a high end raiding guild and after 6 months, my desire to do any current missions besides quick Zlandicar runs for my alts is zero. But yet we have a lot of people who just ask about missions.

Ask a boxer if you can just tag along outside of group. Most people box because they like to do things on their timeline and either have RL distractions that make regular grouping impossible most times or like to go a their own pace (usually slower) and get tired of all the hyper active pushers out there. Almost all boxers I know will throw someone in their group most times if the single players have demonstrated that they're okay with whatever pace and/or interruptions come. But you've got to take the first step.

If you have been gone for 4-5 years, there is a ton of content you probably haven't done at this point. And most of it DOES make your character better (even if just very minor upgrades). See if you can put together a group of folks with your main and other alts to plan to get through ToV/TBL/RoS/EoK etc. Plan on a mission/task a night (or more if time permits). Assuming your guild has member forums, try to post there for interest.

Since you are returning after a long absence, you probably don't have a lot of built capital with your guildmates. Start building some. Players are people and people look to help those that have helped them in the past. I see it a lot with applicants to our guild. When someone applies, my guild is pretty gung ho about getting their main up to appropriate levels since that benefits the guild most and allows us to assess the applicant fairly. But sometimes the applicant then asks for the same type of help for an alt (which we do have raiding nights with, but we just don't care that much about while an applicant). And then people start to view the applicant as needy. And needy people turn off others in a game. Build your capital through good will, helping others, doing things that benefit others, etc.

Be open to just playing. EQ is about relationships and the best way to build them is by playing. Doesn't have to be a high volume GD slaughter group. Can just be 3 people messing around in ToFS. Helps if you all have access to a voice communication app, but you can still have a lot of fun just typing stuff while killing.

Above all, don't whine. Squeaky wheels may get greased outside a game, but doesn't work inside. Usually get put on ignore.

    1. I would make a list of all the things you want to do, whether it's TOV/TBL progression older progression going back to COTF for progression (quests give you some permanent stats ) Maybe your epic or other random quests. Hunter achievements.

    2. Divide the list into 3 parts, Solo, duo, needs a group

    3. Try to join general chat

So now with the above list you have things to do while you're trying to get a group or a partner to do other things. Most everquest players are lazy, they don't have a plan and they don't want to form the group. If you're doing stuff that you can "solo" invite anyone 100+ so you can make friends with them, if you see anyone in general chat looking for help with something... help them. You see anyone say or mention LFG find a way to group with them.

Also for most things you don't need a "well made group" just find anyone and pick things from your list in step 1. Even if you just want to grind some AA it's a lot easier to form groups if your group has a better goal than go to xxx zone and grind exp for 3 hours.

Have goals, talk with players, try to make friends, BE THE LEADER I can't stress this part enough. If you always have a plan and always have things to do or are willing to help others you will make friends in game. Also maybe your current guild just is not a good fit for you.

I've need seen 'Leveling and progression' be a function of a guild, unless it was required for raiding. Even then the burden has always been with the player to get it done. Usually there were a small handful of dedicated people who would help.

The exception to this has been the ability to knock out some of the more recent 'solo tasks' type progression quests and hunter achievements in raid format.

This year we did dragon necropolis and had maybe 1/3 of our guild get those done that way.

But back to the OP's question. Laronk really nails it.

Grats on even making it to 115, your guild must think you are ungrateful for PLing you and not raiding 4 times a week for them....

i'm on Luclin and i do the maybe this year ill get back into the game dance (my character is one of the first raiding clerics on luclin, played him for years). my cleric is 97, can't afford mololing with time or money. just jump onto a TLP and wait until your sub runs out. New World will be live in a month and ESO can be fun...

    Lots of good advice here
    I'd just add the following:
    1. Do you need to be in a different guild? If yours is focused on raiding and that's not your love, perhaps a guild with a broader spectrum of players would be better for you at this stage
    2. Consider adding a boxed account, for a war I'd suggest a shm. You can do an awful lot more by yourself that way
  11. CatsPaws No response to your post cause your on ignore

A lot of players need to start their own groups, being a tank you have a distinct advantage over other classes. So hop into general chat (only available with all access or silver accounts) and just say your looking for a group or want to start a group to go do whatever. If all you want to do is hang out in a group and kill stuff then say that or if your looking to finish some quests

Also you can copy your character to test server where you may have better chances at grouping.
