Please fix the mage pet aggro rules on TLPs

The current mage pet aggro rules on TLPs only serve to punish magicians for getting their epic. Mages with epic pets can barely use any direct damage spells on raids without taking aggro and dying.
The original point of the aggro rule change was to prevent bot army mages from killing raid mobs. The recent True Box TLPs already restrict the number of characters usable so the pet aggro rules are unnecessary. If the number of boxes is not restricted by the server, the aggro rule is also unnecessary.
    Why continue to penalize mages?

    Find a better tank.

Sounds like your tanks need to macro AON spam better.

Mage epic pets proc a DD stun. The problem is you trying to use the epic pet on raid mobs. Mage epic pets are not designed for that purpose.

Your water pet does more damage then the Epic pet and doesn't have push, you shouldn't even be using the Epic pet on raids.

    Do you even raid?

I do and he is right. Your tank needs to get better or your guild needs better tactics to help the tank establish an aggro lock.

The tanks in my guild never lose aggro and they don't spam AoN either.

No matter the gear, skill, or whatever you want to call it. Your main tanks are only as good as the initial threat/hate built on the boss in question. There are quite a few factors that would turn an NPC off the mob that would cause the boss to turn and kill the Mage and 9/10 it won't be the current MT in the rotation.

The OP left out a lot of information to put the blame on the tank. I'd like to see some logs of the fight.

I find this statement really hard to believe.

A main tank can easily lose the attention of the boss if someone accidently clicks taunt or a Mage/Necro pet is taunting as well. What you're saying here is that everyone in your raid is perfect.

A few years ago they changed the way taunt works on Live/TLPs. Taunt now gives you Top of the hate list +2% agro crit taunts give +10% instead of top of the hatelist+1. What this means is that once you've built up like 100,000 threat each successful taunt is generating 2k agro. So it becomes best to just spam the taunt button at which point taunt is basically the only way to rip agro. Because of how threat works on MoTM with pets the +% threat from pets taunting is transferred to the caster of the pet, however the "top of the list" is only given to the pet. What this means is pet classes can have their pet spam taunt and not take agro for just a taunt, but at the same time the pet is getting really high on threat. The tank can spam taunt and get the agro top of the threat list+2% from these really high threat pets.

Some people think that because of this "good tanks can never lose agro"
Problem is 1 mage threat is so incredible high it's very easy for them to take agro anyways for the first min or two of a fight. Especially if the mage is meleeing with a proc weapon like Staff of the Silent star or uses Servant of Ro early on in the fight.

Yes in 2016. Although check yer interpretation. The patch notes say "2% more hatred than the most hated target" not "Top of the hate list +2%". As you hint, they are not necessarily the same position in the list. The semantic difference is why pets transfer hate to their owner and yet remain "top of the list". It's also why a /taunt can build on the pet owner's higher hate (instead of the pet's). Equipped with this knowledge players adopt certain highly successful tactics.

    This exactly!

If you are on either Aradune or Rizlona - A perfect fight to understand the above is the Avatar of War encounter. That's because threat/aggro is typically built on the boss before he's positioned, and that's before your MT (typically a Warrior) even presses his/her taunt button to transfer that threat.

At this point a Lemony Snicket's event would have to occur for a Mage to pull aggro and it's highly unlike the MT has anything to do with it.

Again, the OPs post leaves a lot out... TLP era? Encounter? Log Parse? Etc. ?

That's not how taunt works. Don't speak for things you don't know. You cannot spam taunt for 2% aggro. If you have the attention of a mob, taunt doesn't do anything.

    Ironic
  15. Viceversa Elder

Yeah this is just not true. you can test it very easy on test server too. the taunt only gives you +2% if you are not at the top of the hate list currently.

Pretty sure this guy just comes to troll posts. considering mage epic never had this issue before MoTM how can you even argue that? lol.

.AoN is getting nerfed, So gl.

Velious is by far the best expansion for pre building agro, but if you are telling my a warrior never loses agro to Dagorn or Koi doken you have dps not trying to parse.

Beastlords have a rough time with this too. There has to be a way to fix pet walling mobs without screwing over pet classes.
  16. Triconix Augur

Have you ever taunted at top of aggro? Let me know how that goes. You literally don't know basically mechanics.

The only irony here is someone who clearly doesn't know much about this game past p99 explaining EQ.

With MoTM Pets can be the top of the hate list but they can't be targeted. Taunt checks the top of the hate list rather then the current target.

    Wrong again lol.

    Right. The patch notes said:
To be successful, you cannot be the most hated target already. If that is the case you fail with this message:

You already have your target's attention.

That is a failure message, not a +2% success case message.

The trick is that the mob's target (i.e. top of the list) is not necessarily the player with the most hatred. Other factors like: range, low health, sitting, feign death, DA, mez, charm, pets, can all play into a taunt's result.

Lot of half correct info in this thread to an actual issue.

    1. The build aggro on a mob like Avatar of War stuff was correct. If you pre build enough and then have a tank taunt, which moves them to the top of the hate list is going to make things unlikely to be pulled off by a mage or other dps.

    2. The forum warriors saying get a better tank are just clueless as to what this issue really is. It has nothing to do with the tank or their skill. The issue is that because MoTM ignores the pets as a viable target, 100% of their hate is credited to the mage, and with the epic pets procs and stun, there is a lot of hate being credited to a class that has no real way of dropping hate because this was never intended.

    3. Most mages on these TLPs are boxes, or just plain bad. The water pet does not do more dps than the epic in era at all. If a mage can parse better with the water pet, they are bad. A good mage gets more damage with the epic, and even being killed from aggro missing chunks of the fight than you do with the water pet before the same will occur anyways. This has been tested in depth.

The good news is tanks keep getting better threat, more ways to limit it come into play via aa's, and mages dont really get better before Motm drops off in GoD. Kunark and some of Velious are really the biggest issue so I doubt anything ever gets done about it.
