Hello Purchased a very fast mount called Mage's Severed Hand to expect faster velocity but turns out that a very fast mount is exactly same speed as a fast mount eg. Armored Snow Puma. In my mind this is false advertisement and should be looked upon. Both mounts have velocity of 64 where a very fast mount should be 70 or even 75. Best regards, Magemon
All mounts in marketplace are 64 - see table here http://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:Items_Mounts The description of "fast" and "very fast" was changed and there was a lot of posts about that being so confusing but it also involved running a character flag check for AA run speed.
The "very fast" mounts are from a handful of extremely rare drops in the game and LON loot cards. Mine are 75 speed but I purchased them from LON when that was a thing.
Anyone can get one. The Glowing Drogmor Drum from the Shadowhaven casino is a 75 speed mount. Using any 75 speed mount flags you for that velocity and all other mounts will run at 75 afterwards. Look up the drum and you can probably find a guide on setting yourself up for easily granting max mountspeed to all your alts: Getting the set of 6 tradeable lore items is fairly easy, and getting the 1 to 2 gold tickets required per mount is very easy. I have seen the tickets sell in the bazaar for as low as 15k, which is effectively free on a server where Kronos are 2.3m on average. ...I thought all this was widely known. It's always a first step for my new alts.
I think this post is not so much about speed but this is more about the fact that "fast" and "very fast" are misnomers. Some time ago they stated; "Be aware that checking the "fast/very fast" description in the buff is no longer a valid way to compare mount speed." So your not getting a "very fast" mount that is faster than other mounts. And there is not actually a "very fast" These are the reported speeds (slowest to fastest): Slow1, Slow2, Run1, Run2, Fast. I think everything got all jumbled up when the devs made it so all of your mounts will be as fast as the fastest one you have.
The recent expansion mounts have also been "very fast" i.e. velocity 75, I can definitely confirm for the RoS at least, guessing the same for TBL but not sure. To summarize posts above: 1) Find someone willing to lend you a casino kit and get a few golden tickets and you shouldn't have trouble getting the gold drum. 2) Buy a LoN mount in Bazaar that's velocity 75 3) Farm/camp one of the appropriate raid targets in Luclin. Also "Fast"/"Very Fast" just means it'll be velocity 75 if your character already has that flag. Mount speed in general is now = the fastest mount you're character has used. (Might have to be a permanent or AA mount to get flag?)
Check the "speed" column on the table on this alla page. (Doh - As CatsPaws mentioned in the first reply) 75 velocity mounts are labelled "Fast".
