I've finally moved my base of operations to the Northern part of the Mesa for the better XP to be had from the Centaurs and Ring Snakes. However I keep seeing this annoying group called the Green Legion. They stand at the Sunderland zone in formation. Occasionally the leader shouts out commands and they bravely march to the second bridge where they are opposed by a black dragon. They then bravely run away back to the zone and re-group. They will do this twice. The third time the black dragon confronts them at the zone and they disappear. Is there any purpose to this or is it just to add some drama to the zone? BTW I have empirically determined that the Ptoamide(sp?) fae by the lake north of the centaurs are on a different faction than the rest of the fae and are not to be messed with. I accidentally aggroed one (dark blue) and barely escaped with my life by gating.
The Green Legion commander is not a quest but he drops this: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=63250 among some other augs. Super nice for that level if you can take him. He also has some related faction pluses and hits that relate to other quests further on. Something that may be helpful is if you google Goru'kar mesa or just go to http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zone.html?zstrat=434 then you can look under the tab that says NPC and there will be a link to tell you what each one is about. You don't have to be premium member to see that portion. There are also 2 tabs in every Alla zone page that say "quests" and "quests starting in" that you can look thru and see what rewards might be helpful to you. These two in cresent reach I always make a point of doing: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=3653 and http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=53422 Don't forget all those quests give nice experience at those levels. Along with any kills you do on the way.
Still, he also has about 20 followers all in close proximity to him. Cutting him from the herd seems all but impossible.
crowd control or just have someone kite it around while you pick off mobs from the swarm or easier have a higher level wreck the group a ranger or druid with vinelash can push them all off and then pick them off reapplying as needed
To get the nicest form of his item, you actually have to kill all of his adds as well. His drop changes according to how many of his extras you take out with him. It's very much not worth the trouble in any EQ server that has TSS (and thus defiant) enabled.
The legion is one of two encounters in that zone intended to be "zone sweeper" and a 2-group encounter. And Flavor
