Guise of the Deceiver - Removed on April Fools

    Hi DBG,

Ragefire had this mask dropping until Velious launch. Why was it removed so prematurely on Phinigel server?

Alot of new players are still coming to server with expectation of getting this key item and you guys removed it on April Fools. Is this a joke or will it be reinstated until Velious launch?

    Thank you for your time!

The mask dropped for exactly 4 months on ragefire, lockjaw, and phinigel. The current expansion was never part of the equation.

How ever will new players be able to survive in the world of Norrath without the ability to turn into dark elves?

Eh? It was removed long before that. More like right after Kunark launch.

What Rollback said, it changed to the nerfed one on RF shortly after Kunark.

A Dev has already said it's nothing to do with expansions anyway, it's a certain number of days after a new server launches.

I do not believe this is accurate. I believe it dropped for approximately 2 weeks after Kunark went live, and was consistent on all servers.

Looks like my guess was off by 11 days. X seems to be set at 114 days. I thought I recalled it dropping on ragefire a little longer than a week, but I guess it was only 5 days after Kunark hit.

lol @ the /cry /cry but Ragefire had it until boohoo. But this isn't correct the mask stop dropping a long time ago.

Yeah, so they can exploit locked doors like everyone else.

Then the problem is with their expectations, not with DBGs implementation. People need to have accurate expectations when they try something and not expect things will changed just because they decided to join in nearly 4 months late.

The mask has to stop dropping sometime. I dont think on live it was announced "when" so it randomly being removed now is accurate

Why does it have to stop dropping?

    fixed that for you :p

Do medium-sized illusions even work for door trick? I always have trouble with my AoN unless I'm shrunk.
  15. Lonye Augur

You just need a change in height for it to work. So for example a gnome rogue can get thru stuff just fine if he has been a slacker and not leveled pick lock.

Again, why does it need to stop dropping?

    Stop making things up.

I was on server on LJ until a month before Kunark launch, like it was before it was removed on Live. Phinny got a bone thrown to them that they set a time limit instead of trying to remove it before Kunark.

Learn from this and keep it in mind on other things that get removed like CoS.

If you want them get them NOW.

Just put it back in and leave it in, and don't take things like prenerf CoS out either. These servers are abysmal in their ability to attract new players as time goes on; we don't need reasons for people to want to join in the future taken away. There is no good reason why the guise can't keep dropping.

I think the problem with leaving it in the game is that it was obviously an oversight in 99 when the Guise was created that allowed the effect to be clickable by everyone when it was intended to be Rog/Bard only, evidenced by the fact that it was later fixed in the form of the Mask of Deception.

While the effect is essentially cosmetic (though it does serve some faction uses and doorway exploits), it is still a class specific effect that wasn't intended for everyone to use. Arguing that the Guise should always exist is like saying that all class specific armor with clickable effects (Shrink, Invis, Valor, etc) should be usable by everyone even if they can't equip the item.

We get the Guise for a limited time as a throwback nod to the fact that it was a fun toy that some people get as a "reward" for playing early in the server. Those that missed it will be able to acquire it again in ~5 months when Luclin goes live via the Shadowhaven Casino.
