Crash while zoning

I have been experiencing the dreaded crash while zoning lately. It just started today. I run 3 different accounts between 2 PCs and have never had a problem before. There is no rhyme or reason. It is random between which account will crash or which PC. I have not changed anything, not updated any drivers for either PC. I have not changed any files or settings in game.
Is there any Tech Support for this game anymore?

I am having a ton of crashes while zoning, ever since TBM came out. Its not just the TBM zones that make you crash on zone, I am going threw COTF and every 4/5 zones, game will crash
  3. Drakah UI Designer

This seems ironic, but I zoned my alts in from Stone Hive to Bixie Warfront to get attuned to the portals, who are both on separate computers, and they both crashed upon zoning. Maybe the crash has something to do with flag related achievements or character updates that are making the game crash??
  4. Tingain New Member

Mostly since the last patch I've been crashing like crazy while zoning. Maybe 1 out of ever 4 zones. It doesn't seem to be specific to certain zones for me. I even get the same crash while zoning in from the character select.
  5. Tingain New Member

And same thing, I haven't updated drivers or changed anything. Brand new computer and game was running perfectly not long ago.
  6. Drakah UI Designer

We must get at least 30 crashes per raid night from people just zoning. It is quite ridiculous. I seriously doubt it is computer related because it seems to be overly common issue now.
  7. Ranla New Member

Yep, what Drakah said... way too many crashes for it to be an issue with our computers.
  8. Slambit Journeyman

crashing often on Phinney while zoning aswell, how often do i need to fill out that pop up? :)
  9. Drakah UI Designer

Any news to this? I am crashing at least 4x a day on both computers.

Same problem here crash after x amount zones. Sometimes I'll just flat out crash while in a zone after being in it for a long period of time usually 1-2 hours give or take a bit. Oddly my guild leader plays all day with no problems at all and my other guildies also seem to never crash or if they are they don't complain about it. I wonder if eq's ram usage is going over 3 gigs since it's a 32 bit based game maybe junk stuff is stacking up on the ram and not removing itself properly from zoning and doing whatever else and when it goes past the 3 gig mark which is max for a 32 bit OS or game it causes the crash. I read something about Skyrim crashes being due to going over 3 gigs of ram used because it's also a 32 bit based client this was mainly a problem if you used to many mods though but from what I read it takes a lot to hit 3 gigs on that. If anyone knows how to possibly make EQ not go over 3 gigs of ram with some kind of .ini file or a .dll or something that makes EQ's ram usage cap before 3 gigs. That's probably the fix we all need. I hope daybreak reads this post and does something related to my idea of what it might be.

This has helped a few people that I know.

EQ Button, Options, Display, Advanced, select "minimal memory usage"

It has not cured everyone but certainly worth a try.

This has been happening to me since I began playing, which is a few months ago. I crash at almost every zone.
From my experience, I can tell that :
-The more complex the two zones are, the higher probability you can crash.
-The more memory you allocate for the game (with custom memory inis), the more you'll crash, this means that using "least memory usage" does help, but doesn't resolve the problem (I can travel 1 to 2 zones with this setting without crashing if I'm lucky)
-The higher your graphics settings are, the more you'll crash (I tried putting the game at minimum graphics, which is awfully ugly, and the game was much more stable)
    -Changing servers doesn't resolve anything.
-It doesn't seem to be lag/ping related.
-Not specs/RAM related (I have a GTX970, an overclocked Intel Core i5 2500k, and 10GB of RAM, which is wayyyyy more than needed for this game)

My guess would be that the crash comes from some sort of memory leak, since changing memory usage helps a little.
This bug seems to be existing since a while, since I found posts from around 2004 mentioning this issue, although it might not be exactly the same causes as today's EQ.

This is slightly annoying, but fortunately I'm a patient person, but it's still bothering me.
I'd like to be able to play the game without having to reduce my graphics quality so the game doesn't crash.

Here's my log before my latest crash when zoning :

I have very similar hardware. I5-2550k OC to 4.2 GHz, GTX 970, 8GB system RAM and running win7. I have almost all settings maxed and use the visual effects to see auras etc. Shadows not on. 1920x1200 resolution.

I used to crash zoning after maybe 6 or 8 zones. When raiding would crash every other zone. I changed to "Least Memory Usage" and the problem went away immediately. Although now when I zone it takes 5 seconds or so for everything in the new zone to load completely and look normal.

I applaud your patience because crashing that often would seriously piss me off. Hopefully someone with more technical knowledge than me can make use of the info you posted and recommend a fix. The only thing that stood out to me was how would you have 10GB system memory?

DBG should be all over this. It is NOT an isolated incident. My guild often has 5-10 people crash on zone switches when raiding.

I'm 99% sure it's a memory leak issue as people that posted way back in 2010 even said here's a link to that post https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/client-crashes-when-zoning.179907/. I had a long back and forth with a daybreak TSR and then a senior TSR we tried literally every trick in the book even as far as reinstalling my OS entirely and I still crashed. Then I found that thread and saw the post about the one that was 2 boxing one with luclin models off that client didn't crash but the one with them on did, so I figured what the hell I turned all the ones I don't use off and I haven't crashed since. I sent the senior TSR the link to the 2010 thread and explained it so he put it through to the in-game team so if we're lucky they'll patch it. This is been within the past month btw so it might be a bit till to they do patch it. He also gave me a link to send to people which I'll put at the end of this post just say turning luclin models off fixed your crashing blah blah blah. Which should most likely be true anyway test it before you go to the link if you want I bet it'll work. EQ might be old but luclin models eat a pretty large amount of memory for how old they are but it won't show much in the task manager but yea. Also my commit charge / page was still going up through the roof after turning luclin models off but I wasn't crashing it was at a whopping 9.9 gigs and EQ was the ONLY thing that was running aside from the required system backround tasks. Here's the link to submit it to the in game team https://dgcissuetracker.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa?selectPageId=11500. Also I had several friends and guildies that were also crashing on zoning try turning luclin models off and they too no longer crash and have also submitted a report to that link. Spread the word to your friends and guildies about that link and let's get those reports rolling in so they can hopefully fix it.

Heh, I always "shock" people with this.
It's quite simple, I upgraded my PC from an HP PC I bought which had 6GB of RAM, and after a few years of continuous upgrades, I decided to upgrade the RAM a bit by adding a 4GB RAM stick, which makes 3 2GB RAM sticks and 1 4GB RAM stick lol

So the newer models seem to be the problem. It's annoying because the older models are REALLY low quality, which isn't exactly ideal lol.
I guess I'll just try disabling some of them.
  16. Claan Elder

That seemed like an unusual memory configuration to me so looked real quick and saw that most mobo's can handle different memory sticks. I didn't know that before. You just lose the dual channel feature and the system defaults to the lowest performance memory type. However, it may cause some unpredictable problems. Have you tried removing the 4GB stick and a 2GB stick to see if it makes any difference?

Here is what I saw that mentioned some possible problems:

"Asymmetric channel configuration will cause the board to operate memory in lower-performance interleaved mode and since the memory controller only supports one set of timings for all installed RAM, all your memory will have to follow the weakest DIMM's timings.

Aside from that, it should work unless you run into odd interoperability issues that nobody can predict."
  17. BSoD New Member

Well, my slowest RAM sticks are the 2GB ones, not the newer 4GB one, sooo... My system would be the same speed even if I had the 4GB RAM stick removed.
I don't personally think it's a RAM issue as every (extremely) RAM-intensive games I thrown at my computer (Landmark, GTA V, The Witcher 3, a heavily modded Skyrim...) never had any crashing issue that could be related to RAM.
I think that if I had RAM problems, I'd be feeling that very often and not only when gaming or exclusively when playing EverQuest lol.
  18. Corwyhn Lionheart Guild Leader, Lions of the Heart

Running 32 GB of matched memory on my main system and 16 GB and 4 GB on two others also matched memory.... the 32 and 16 machines run windows 10 and the 4 gb machine XP. Crashing is as frequent from one machine to the next.

Any significant amount of time in POK increases the chance of a crash on zoning signficantly.
  19. xukil of luclin Curator of a UI

I have two pretty decent machines...Same processor i7 3.4ghz, 16gig of ram, one has 2 titans in SLI the other 2 GTX 770's in SLI...I crash on each computer and also my i7 laptop, my step sons lenovo laptop and my surface pro in exactly the same way...zone a few times and get a memory exception...During raids we have 15 people or so that have to relog after a crash...

The fact that(to my knowledge) its never been acknowledged by anyone official is insane...The issue is clearly on their end...I could care less about content or TLP servers, it seems a playable game should be the #1 priority...I am not going to rage quit or threaten anything if it doesn't get fixed...I am just going to assume more and more that the people working behind the scenes are inept...
  20. Derd Augur

Generic HP store bought no upgrade, never crashes zoning. On our raid we have one or two people crash only in certain zone every time they try to enter. What you think is something that could easily fix or is definitely on there end to find. I believe is more complicated and possibly more on the consumer end. If it's just the game why doesn't everyone crash every time , and why do I never crash.
