My laptop has a AMD Elite Quad-Core A10-5745M along with 8 gigs of ram runs at 2.1 ghz and can run 4 instances of EQ with no problems. My tower has an AMD A4-3400 APU (dual core) with 6 gigs of ram runs at 2.7 ghz and can only run 1 instance of EQ and that's with using a Radeon R7850 Core edition with 1 gig onboard ram. the motherboard for my tower is an Asus F1A55-M LX PLUS Rev X.0x which can support AMD® A-& E2- series Accelerated Processor with AMD Radeon™ HD 6000 Series Graphics, Up to 4 CPU cores, FM1 Package Belarc Advisor Computer profile states the following for my tower 2.70 gigahertz AMD A4-3400 APU with Radeon HD Graphics256 kilobyte primary memory cache1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache64-bit readyMulti-core (2 total)Not hyper-threaded I notice it says that the APU is not hyper-threaded. Is it possible to hyper-thread it and if so would it make any difference to the performance? So I am wondering what kind of AMD APU I can get for my tower that might enable me to run multiple instances of EQ. I have tried every suggestion people have given me and I cannot run more than 1 instance. If I run even 2 then I hit the up arrow and it acts like I hit num lock and keeps going. If I try to turn even a little bit my toon starts going in circles and the only way to stop it is to duck and even that isn't very fast. Another question I guess would be can I go with just a CPU as I have the radeon graphics card? I am looking at 3 apu's the first is AMD A6-6400K X2 Blk ED APU Processor FM2 4.1GHZ 65W Retail Box Display & Graphics Graphics Controller Manufacturer: AMD Graphics Controller Model: Radeon HD 8470D General Information Brand Name: AMD Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc Manufacturer Part Number: AD640KOKHLBOX Manufacturer Website Address: http://www.amd.com Package Type: Retail Product Model: A6-6400K Product Name: Dual-core A6-6400K 3.9GHz Black Edition Desktop Processor Product Series: A6 Product Type: Processor Miscellaneous Platform Supported: PC Physical Characteristics Depth: 1.6" (39.9 mm) Width: 1.6" (39.9 mm) Power Description Thermal Design Power: 65 W Technical Information 64-bit Processing: Yes Clock Speed: 3.90 GHz L1 Cache: 96 KB L2 Cache: 1 MB Overclocking Speed: 4.10 GHz Process Technology: 32 nm Processor Core: Dual-core (2 Core) Processor Manufacturer: AMD Processor Socket: Socket FM2 Processor Technology: AMD64 Technology Virtualization Technology Turbo Core 3.0 Technology PowerNow Technology price tag $72.00 then there is the AMD A8-5600K APU Quad Core Processor Socket FM2 3.6GHZ 4MB 100W Retail Box Model BrandAMD SeriesA-Series APU ModelAD560KWOHJBOX CPU Socket Type CPU Socket TypeSocket FM2 Tech Spec CoreTrinity Multi-CoreQuad-Core NameA8-5600K Operating Frequency3.6GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) L2 Cache4MB Manufacturing Tech32 nm 64 bit SupportYes Virtualization Technology SupportYes Integrated GraphicsAMD Radeon HD 7560D Graphics Base Frequency760MHz Thermal Design Power100W Cooling DeviceHeatsink and Fan included price tag $117 Last is AMD A8 5500 Quad Core Processor Socket FM2 3.2GHZ 4MB 65W Retail Box Processor Type: AMD Quad-Core A8-Series APU for Desktops Model: AMD A8-5500 APU with AMD Radeon™ HD 7560D Part Number: AD5500OKHJBOX Socket Type: FM2 Power Wattage: 65 Frequency: 3200 Processor Bus Speed: Not Specified Processor L2 Cache Size: 4000 CMOS: 32nm SOI price tag $117 If the $72 dual core will be able to do multiple instances of EQ then I would prefer to save the $45. When you said the tower will not run multiple instances of EQ, exactly what is happening other than the quoted part? Where do you have EQ installed? And are you using the same directory/shortcut for both sessions? If default location is Program Files directory, suggest moving game elsewhere, such as c:\game\everquest or something that you will have easy access to. And what has been done, tweaks to eqclient.ini/etc? EQ settings by default has EQ running only on one core. Post eqclient.ini, remove the color codes to make it shorter, if need be. After that, rename eqclient.ini to allow new one to be created. On Launchpad, before hitting Play, click on Advanced tools then game config. Run through it, disabling dynamic lighting. Also, what has been done to the computer? Heatsinks blown out/cleaned out all dust build up (make sure to do this to laptop every few months)? Power Options set to always on (XP) or set to Best Performance? Keyboard/mice wired or wireless? System video card settings? Application control? Using MSI Afterburner to take control of fan settings? If Vista+ disabled Aero? Running in Full screen mode or windowed mode for all sessions?

I created a new eqclient.ini already and it made no difference. I honestly can't remember what they suggested I change but I did it and it made no difference. Power options set to always on. keyboard wired, mouse wireless. By the system video card do you mean the one in the apu? If so I thought the new one the Radeon R7850 core edition took over graphics settings. I run in windowed mode so I can swap screens. I am using asus AI suite II , fan expert to control fan it is on turbo and set at %60 cpu at 37 degrees celcius. My OS is Windows 7 I am using AMD Catalyst Control Center. most things are set at use application settings the only ones that aren't are: Anti-Aliasing filter set at standard, Anti-Aliasing method set at multi-sampling, morthological filtering set at off. Texture filtering quality set at performance, Surface Format Optimization set at on. Frame rate control, wait for vertical refresh set at off, unless application specifies, Open GL Triple Buffering set at on. That is all I can give you atm. Am about to try having the second instance run from a different folder / Launchpad than the first one, hopefully that will make a difference.
Ok, first, locate and change the 2nd number to neg 1 CPUAffinity0=0 to -1 CPUAffinity1=1 to -1 (if this line is not present due to not loading up two sessions, add it) Also add Vsync = True at the top under Default heading. Add stickfigures=0 (test run by changing it to 1 to enable stickfigures) Locate Shadows=1 to change to 0 (zero) (it was missing in your posted eqclient. If it was missing Shadows may have been enabled). After that, load up one session and log into the game. Alt O/Display Tab, far clipplane, set it around 50%. Now, in Display Tab, click on Advance button. Click off everything after allow 2.0 Pixel shaders. Zero out shadow cp. Max frames and background, set to 75% Memory Mode, try less memory usage first. ************************** On video card/system. Is the monitor plugged into the actual ATI video card or is it plugged into the system/motherboard? It should be plugged into the video card itself. On your Asus Suite, that, afaik, does not control your fans on your video card. Use Catalyst control panel and manually up the fan speed for a test run. Basically, when running both gaming sessions, are you hearing the fans being kicked up if they have not already been rev up? And do you have the cpu overclocked some? And how is the dust build up? Is the keyboard USB? Unplug it and stick it in another slot. As for the second folder, if you do use a second folder it will allow you to tweak the 2nd account to an even more sparse settings (stickfigures, etc) to make things run smoother such as lowering the clipplane even more, etc.
If those are your only APU choices you should get the A8-5600K since you definitely want more cores for running more instances of EQ. The 2 core A6-6400 would not give you enough of a boost. Roughly speaking you want one core for running everything else(OS tasks) and the other cores for EQ instances. So you should be able to run 3-4 instances of EQ with 4 cores of AMD. Here's a simple comparison: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/AMD-A8-5600K-vs-AMD-A6-6400K
