I actually bought it ALSO on my enchanter account so I could turn it into a spell ( yes it works ).

Is this an item or spell ? I can't find any mention on Alla.

Item:
The Visage of the Grimling, an Enchanter can take it to an npc in the PoK Liabrary to turn it in, and in return gets back the illusion item + spell. So to answer you question, it is an item. (But Enchanters get to turn it also into a spell).
