Just feeling nostalgic for when feats were tied to content. I think the Dev team went overboard with adding silly ways to earn feats. I understand that they caught on to the fact that skill points could be monetized. I think it was a crappy way to exploit the psychological bond players have to their accounts. It's the soft gambling for progress in the game that really bothers me. DCUO use to be about comics and gameplay. I see 'the business' in the game now in a way that never use to be present. And, it's sort of sad to see the direction gaming has gone. Younger people will be more accepting of these types of practices because their minds are literary being engineered to accept it. Video games use to be like movies, they were art and entertainment, not platforms for selling digital goods. And now, it's not just cosmetic goods, it's also a players ability to be effective and progress in the game. Someone who has been subbed over the past 4 years may see the game differently than me, but that's what I see coming back to it.
I'm not gonna say your points aren't valid...because they are to an extent. This is mostly about helping players who have been gone for a long while or are new to the game to catch up. In a perfect world, people would just roll up their sleeves and get to it, but unfortunately this playerbase has a form of "you must be this 'tall' to ride with us" kind of mentality...so they have to get skill points somewhere. While it's...distasteful, for lack of a better word, there just isn't any other way to help them catch up without scrapping the system we have or something else equally as crazy. Plus up until recently, it had been getting damn near impossible to get into content to earn feat points the old fashioned way...and when you could get into content, sometimes people would just ruin those attempts at it. All i'm saying is that this sadly isn't just about greed here.
I definably don't think it's greed, the game has overhead obviously. I totally understand that easier to obtain skill points is a necessity for new players based on how the game evolved. When the formula is to get players to end game as fast as possible it creates a huge power gap with veteran players. Artifacts are another example of this. Next, it will be Allies, when they become required to be 'tall enough'. In the old days everyone was only as powerful as the power sets and their own accomplishments. My issue is with 'the gap' being the primary way the game is monetized. I just think it could have been handled differently, maybe by excluding elite content from the 'free' episodes. So, you need to be subbed or buy elite instances. I'm not even objecting to time capsules, I looked forward to the booster bundles. I just think it crosses a line by including any SP feats in the mix. All the feats veterans have can be obtained by playing the game content. You don't even need to do raids to gain a passable number of skill points. Handing them out in RNG boxes seems excessive. Adding 20 more races would have done a similar thing to create SP for example. Something else to consider is the effect on the game's broken economy as new players struggle to complete feats. Some veteran players (or marketplace whales) will dictate the cost of SP items in the game. In some respects veterans are also determining if new players can obtain those emblem feats. The broker game is not at all fun for new players.
