    Hmm...

Interesting info; thanks but no thanks. To me, the Oscars are like the Superbowl at halftime; the commercials take over the show. I'll be sure to schedule an evening att Yestercades http://yestercades.com/ that day. :D

The Oscars are far too political slash social agenda-ised (for whatever Social Agenda du jour), remember when Cameron lost the Best Picture in favour of his wife?

Is this still going to happen? Didn't they fire the presenter (again)?

Well actually, Cameron and Bigelow had divorced by then.

Kevin Hart, who was supposed to host this year left the post since old homophobic tweets resurfaced (for which he has apologized multiple times even before the fiasco) so there will be no host this year. Just expect celebs to announce the winners and whatnot.

And, since there will be no host this year, the Oscars are expected to far less political than it has been for the past couple years. Keep in mind, that Jimmy Kimmel hosted the last two Oscars, and that was the primary reason as to why the show was so political. He loves to bash Trump (His talk show, for example, has become so political that he's been losing viewing numbers at an alarming rate, or so I've heard). I don't support Trump or anything, I just generally don't like politics.

Can still remember when the Oscars was simply where they got together, had a meal, and celebrated the winners that had been announced previously, none of this crap 'mystery' of who will win, what political slash social agenda will they push, how far will the host push things nonsense

Problem is, there aren't so many of the Greats left :(
Instead, we are left with the "Meh, they will do"s

    Exactly this.

If Black Panther loses best picture and I was there I'd take a knee.

    (Yep, went there.)

Even if the winner was BlacKKKlansman???

Yes, because I'm white and the real significance of such things elude me.

For instance: Back in the 1960's I was invited to take a walk in Selma, Georgia and no one could understand why I brought the dog.
  13. DarkVisor 15000 Post Club

Probably because you were in the wrong State (Selma is in Alabama :p )

Why wouldn't you take your dog for a walk? o_O

Which is the point. Movies, entertainment etc. do not bear any real significance. Yet the attention makes them excellent platforms for political agendas or to direct inner population struggles and hassles anywhere away from "rich vs poor" ;)

The fact that Blakkklansman was nominated for Best Picture and Cold War wasn't makes this year an even bigger farce than usual. And Black Panther was good but Oscar worthy? No.

At least Cold War has a shot at Best Foreign Language Film

Yeah Cold War should have been nominated instead of Panther. But they did get best director and foreign language noms so...

The pure reason as to why Panther got as best pic nom is cause of the cultural/political significance of the film.

Which dispels the notion that these awards aren't political.
