I found a solution for people vs arenas with the new system.

Make the arenas CR pvp based like pve.

each CR will unlock the others arenas, just like pve.

people still will queue for the arenas, everyone will have all arenas unlocked (CR PVP BASED) and everyone will be happy.

Isn't that just another form of ranked matchmaking, but based on gear rather than a players win/loss?
  3. Jason Martin Dedicated Player

nah, it just a alternative to give to us all the others pvp maps back.

The more maps we have, the slower queues are, which is part of the reason they reduced the number of them. I think they should just start off with quicker rotations (weekly or something) so that people don't have to wait a month or more just to get a specific map.

but it is scaled by the CR, if u have 77 CR you can't queue with people CR 84 get it? and as far i know they made CR pvp to separate noobs and pro players, no?

so, why the queue will decreases? if you are low CR and can't queue to CR 84 maps?
  6. Statman New Player

That's flat out restricting people. More restrictions = longer queues.

At least with ranked matchmaking, if the system can't find someone equal to your level, they'll chuck you in with whoever is closest, so you at least get into a match.

If they enforce ELO matchmaking properly they don't need to make other changes. ELO is worthless right now because it doesn't actually force equallity matched opponents to fight each other. If it did the PVP would be great.

Because you now have a bunch of low-CR people that can't queue for some arenas, which means queues for those maps will be slower. Meanwhile, you also have a bunch of high-CR people not queuing for non-locked arenas, so queues for those maps will be slower as well.

Or even more simply, you have a finite number of players. They will be spread around the available maps. If you add more maps, the same number of total players means less players queuing per map, which means longer queues.

...which isn't to say the existing rotation system is perfect (I haven't even tried it yet, so I have no strong opinion on the current implementation), but the existence of a map rotation does indeed shorten queue times. It has to, as a matter of simple arithmetic.

The ranks are not by CR so you do still face people with different CR numbers. The CR is not made to separate people. The CR is for scaling power pets and mainframe pets properly. It has nothing to do with who you get matched against.

You get matched against people with the same ELO ranking as you. This rank is solely determined by wins and loses against people and it takes their ELO ranks into account during those wins and loses. If you have CR 77 and beat someone with a CR of 84, the CR's are meaningless. If you ELO rank is 1550 and theirs is 2000 and you win, then you would get a pretty large bump in rank for winning. In DCUO your ELO is not displayed but behind the scene they are trying to match you with people close to the same rank as you. The more matches everyone plays the more accurate everyone will be ranked. After everyone is ranked properly you should be getting queued quickly and against people that are of similar skill as you.

Then you have the problem of people at T4 playing the T1 maps and dominating new players.

The Dev's want to encourage more matches (less time queued), more competition in matches (fighting people of equal rank), and more equality in our gear stats (New PvP gear tiers every 6 months).

If they have every map available then people with equal ranks might be spread across all the maps which causes people to either wait a long time to get into a match or they get paired against someone that is not the same rank as them. Both of these things hurt two of their goals (More matches with less time queued and more competition with equally rank people). The solution for this is to do a map rotation which then forces groups to queue for less maps each month. This causes the pool of people that are equal to each other in rank to be higher for a given map. This also allows for a much fast queue time.

If these are groups with T4 PvP armor already then they have won a large number of matches and aren't ranked the same number as the new players. They aren't playing against noobs at that point.
  13. neptunesBeard New Player

You could farm T1 to earn T4 gear with a bad win/loss ratio. Then use your T4 gear to dominate T1 maps.
  14. Nekron 99 Loyal Player

You get no Marks for losses. You must win to earn marks and buy the gear. So if someone has T4 at this point they must have a high win to low loss ratio.

Also there is no such thing as a T1 map. But if you won enough matches to get the gear then you are ranked over the people that have T1 gear and you wouldn't be facing them.
  15. neptunesBeard New Player

You don't have to get a good w/l ratio to earn T4. You can win a lot but still lose way more.
The OP was talking about the implementation of tiered maps.
  16. Rahiel New Player

Yes, but unless you maintain your win/loss ratio, you're going to start getting very long queues for the lower-tier maps. (Also, the gear difference is less huge than it was, and in this hypothetical we can't be sure that t4 gear would be rare in non-CR-locked maps.) Or if you intentionally throw matches or something to maintain a 50/50 win/loss, you're not really dominating the maps...
  17. Statman New Player

Never mind my thinking was flawed.
  18. Nekron 99 Loyal Player

The gear has only been out for 2.5 days now. If you were to have enough wins to get the full T4 then you would have more wins than losses.
  19. BomombRook New Player

Find it weird then I got matched two times in a row with a t4 pvp player when all I had was T0 at the time with this new match making system.
  20. BomombRook New Player

Also if it's based of a win/loss ratio, then all a high tier pvper has to do is loss a lot and gets place with low geared players. And then loss more after they get their daily marks and stuff.
