[Suggestion] Idea for new vehicle: The 'MSAMP'

    Hey guys.

I've got an idea for a possible new vehicle to this game that would be dedicated to the role of AA, so let me introduce the:

    MSAMP
    "Mobile-Surface-to-Air-Missile-Platform"

The MSAMP is a mobile, deployable surface to air missile weapons platform. It has unmatched AA capaibilities with its lethal missiles(owner can choose from a wide variety of specialized missiles), enabling a single MSAMP to take on multiple enemy aircrafts, and multiple MSAMPs working together to be able to lock down their own airspace.

Suffers from bad mobility and slow speed. Until it is deployed, it has no shield, so it is vulnerable to aircrafts when moving/redeploying. Its shield also doesn't work vs infantry or ground vehicle weaponry. A single C4 or AT mine will cause it to violently explode. It has no countermeasures or guns to use against infantry or vehicles, and thus requires protection from its teammates to keep alive.

Due to this, it is a weapon best deployed strategically ahead of the battle itself, because while its AA power is unmatched, it is extremely vulnerable while on the move.

    Pros:
    - Extreme AA cabaility.
    - Has kinetic shield that will absorb a limited amount of air-fire.(once deployed)

    Cons
    - Slow moving
    - No shield while undeployed.
    - Fragile
    - No defense vs ground forces.
    - Limited rockets encourages the escort of an ammo specced Sunderer.

So essentially, this weapon is designed to be primarily focused on dealing with air threats, and when multiple ones are used by an organized outfit, can lock down the air space and almost completely deny enemy air access in that region.
This is to give air a threat besides other air, and encourage the use of infantry and tanks to deal with the threat of MSAMPs. It will also introduce more communication between ground forces and pilots, as pilots will rely on information from ground forces so they don't risk running blindly into a trap, and ground forces will want to hunt down these vehicles to enable their own air to join the fight.

The idea is that this will make air a little more dangerous, and introduce more teamwork and communication, as MSAMPS, being entirely defenseless vs ground targets, will require teamwork to protect and use lest a random lightning or sneaky LA utterly destroys them, and this will in turn require whatsoever team wants to use their air forces require to coordinate to take them out.
The MSAMP is also very risky to deploy in the middle of the battle itself, unless you can sneak it in. Its role is mostly about denying enemy air or setting up prepared traps/ambushes.

Basically, it is to add another level of depth and strategy to the fight.

    What are your opinions?

This actually seems like a decent idea... It sounds a bit fleshed out in how it would work, but... What would it look like?

Other than that my only problem whatsoever is: Too many people still think something needs more cons than pros to be "balanced". >:|
  3. SinerAthin

    Its look?

Well... a missile battery attached to a modified Sunderer Chassis, where the back behind the driver's house is removed?

I didn't think that much on its appearance, mostly its function :D

Why not just make it a Lightning Chassis o_o

We already have a dedicated AA platform, the skyguard. It's currently **** but I bought one anyway.
  6. Compass

Skyguard can be used against ground targets though. Theoretically. Missiles cannot. At all D:

and renders aa max and aa lightning useless?
  8. SinerAthin

The lightning will have many times its mobility and be able to fire without deployment.
As for the Skyguard... well, quite frankly, the current version of 'Skyguard' that we have in the game is useless.

    And endangering AA maxes?
Did Tanks render AT maxes useless?
Did AI Maxes render ordinary infantry useless?

Not really, AA Maxes will still be the choice when your base is being pounded or you are far away from supply lines and only have a Sunderer to re equip from.

The MSAMP requires a tank platform to spawn, is slow, and trying to set it up when already attacked is almost suicide, so no, it will not by any means render the AA Max any more useless than it already is :p

Powerful AA missiles on a super-fast lightning chassis? That'd be OP :p

And.. quite frankly, the lightning chassis carrying a missile battery would challenge the laws of physics, which is why a Sunderer/MBT chassis would be more suitable to carry the heavy load albeit at a slower pace ^^
  9. Compass

Neither of those is rendered useless. AA Maxes can be deployed from anywhere using a gear station. Lightnings can only come from Tank Access Terminals.

The Skyguard does damage in a stream rather than in a burst from missiles. If a plane flies overhead of a SAM, the missile may very well not do any damage.

Are those pesky mosquitoes bothering you again? I have two solutions for you:

Melt the composite armor right off those ESFs with the brand-new SkySpray! Can also be used to effortlessly fumigate enemy bio labs.

Is SkySpray too messy for your liking? Try the time-proven SkyNet! A perfect way to collect the native insects of Indar or that unsuspecting Mosquito pilot (display case sold separately).

In all seriousness, this game could use several balancing improvements. We need to fix what we already have first; new types of AA would only further complicate the balance.

No more weapons with lock-on missiles please. ESPECIALLY one that will be able to have multiple missiles in the air at one time.

Just let me equip 2 skyguard guns on my sunderer. That way 3 people in a sunderer can take out 3 people in a LIB, oh wait! it would take 3 of those sunderers 6 skyguard guns to take out a lib

Neat idea, maybe a bit too complicated. Maybe make this the MBT equivalent of the Skyguard, instead of it's own separate vehicle platform?
