How did you pick your faction?

  1. Chivalry

Recently I went back to TR due to their underpop, trying to help, and I'm liking the CARV.

The Grounder is broken as heck though.

It is important for me to look sexy while I kill my enemies in the fanciest way possible, thus I chose VS; although, to be honest, I am sexier in RL.
  3. Campagne

I chose NC back in open beta because I liked the colors and the armour. The intro music was the least unbearable as well. Though after playing, I quickly developed an affinity toward their idle music.

Given the high damage, low rate of fire profile, I had foolishly thought more players than just me would value accuracy. I think you can all assume that I was disappointed with hipfireside 2. But I rarely see any of the other factions' players attempting to maintain a level of accuracy either, nor firing only when a target is visible and in range.

Freedom also seemed like a worthy cause to fight for, as it has been and still is to people in reality.

Those three reasons are personal opinion, not categorical truths, and I've never claimed otherwise. I just hypothesized that other people might feel the same way (i.e. disdain for authoritarianism) and made their faction choice with those reasons in mind. How many other people? I don't know; that's why I made the thread. I also acknowledged from the start that there are other (read: unknown to me) factors holding down the TR population.

In the end, like I said, all three factions are allegories of societal failures from my perspective. I just happen to think that the TR performs the worst when it comes to the 'cool' factor.

I started off in the TR. It was probably a good place to learn the game, the weapons are fairly easy to handle, and in my opinion, quite noob friendly. After getting my head around the game and how it all works, I "defected" to the NC to see if the grass was greener. I found I prefer the harder hitting weapons of the NC, and I was able to cope with the recoil and lower ROF, so I never looked back.

I should probably create a VS character on another server at some point and give it a try.

Miller - TR - PCGUK said they were going to be TR purely because they were red and black. Like their logo. Thats it. They opted for TR and i joined them. Even though i thought i prefered being NC in the beta and the armour looked awesome in my eyes. Especially the vanguard looked awesome comapared to that lunchbox the TR call tank.

Colbalt: NC -Funny story. I couldn't get onto the miller server so to pass the time i chose to play as another faction and on another server i could get on. Turned out Colbalt was slightly more popular and wasn't completely doiminated by TR. Turned out i did so well with the NC i kept it as my main account.

woodman: I made the VS account purely because everyone said they were the biggest faction on that server. So i could play as VS with sufficient numbers.

Freedom. Freedom and random choice between NC and TR ... I don't like purple.

I doubt weapon selection makes much difference for initial faction choice, new players don't know enough to choose on that basis. It will affect retention though, and I think the longstanding NC underpop we had up until December was probably to do with NC weapons being pretty hard to use until you get good.

Freedom is a word in reality i would take with caution, and in this game so. Because what is freedom? Too much freedom is exactly the opposite of good, freedom from a government, corporations would have free going, without rules and controls then those companies would do anything to get a higher profit, wether that's slaughtering other humans or so, if we take Planetside 2 like a deep emotion filled game when infact it's the NC's fault all those people ending up on that planet,

and i repeat it's history from the wikia

By February 2630, Business Forward, an entity co-founded by the CEOs of some of the solar system's largest corporations, held a summit at which the members agreed to closely monitor the activity of former Terran Republic President Tom Connery. In a memo from Terrance Mattherson, one of the high ranking members of Business Forward

As i said when corporations speak about freedom, it's never a good thing, when companies do something it's never out of good will it's always about profit, and nothing else.

And if we take it's history seriously and compare it to a nation now, yeah the U.S a country that shines on the outside, but a country where companies and corporations have more and more political power.

So short story is that the U.S is a shining nation on the outside, but if you dig deeper and ask questions you see a nation rotting from the inside. But americans still yell Freedom, yet they have not realized it yet what society they're living in now.

I picked Orion/SVA and fabulous colored resist shield with obnoxiuous camos!
  10. Maverick-Hunter

I took the NC because of the badass look and music and their ideas of an utopic freedom like republic.
Its a thing about the own goals, if you want to be villain or not - this kinda stuff

Back when the Alpha Squad package came on sale, I immediately bought it.
I came to the character creation screen and saw the TR. Nice music, good visuals, my favourite colour scheme. They looked like 'the bad guys'. And I was really excited. I wanted to click create and then I remembered, This will mean that everyone will like the TR and they will be the overpop. So the TR was not an option any more.
So, either NC or VS. Well, VS is all purple and skin tight pants. So NC it is. And I've never regretted it (WASP is NC ^_^ and my outfit is the main reason why I still play)

    Thats the reason.

My choice started back in PS1.

My net connection sucked and couldn't control the CoF of TR weapons. Also, I liked being a sniper then and TR weapons were better up close, where I always sucked back in PS1. I went NC and found a nice combination of Gause Rifle and Bolt Driver. I probably wouldn't have stuck with the game though as my sub was soon to run out until I got recruited in Praetorian Guard near the time of outfit creation. They didn't necessarily make my decision for me, but they kept me NC.

Coming into PS2, we were thinking about swapping empires to TR but figured they'd end up easy mode (And for quite some time we were right). To that end we stuck with NC, and here I am today.

My first character was Vanu, because my kids liked the look.

Then I wanted a change of pace. Libertarian = Sucktardastic and I'd rather die than fight for megacorps, so TR it was. It also helped that I like the underpopulated underdog thing. I also read somewhere they're a transparent Socialist Republic, so win.
