Everquest2.exe will not launch

    I tried to start EQ2 yesterday but I can't get past launchpad . I noticed that there was an update yesterday so I can only assume that the update is the cause of the problem as nothing else has changed on my computer.
    I rang tech support yesterday and spoke to TSR David S who asked me to send him DxDiag.txt and MSinfo.txt, I did this promptly but have heard nothing since then; Incident: 120808-000698.
    Here are the symptoms;
    1. Launch Everquest2 from the desktop icon.
    2. Launchpad launches and displays the green 'Play' button.
    3. On pressing 'Play' the button changes to 'Playing' and Everquest2.exe does appear to start in task manager but then disappears and the green button goes back to 'Play'.
    4. A few seconds later launchpad exits itself.

    I have tried the following to try and fix this;
    After this started yesterday I tried logging into the USEnglish servers (as I'm based in the UK I usually play on the EUEnglish servers). The first time I tried this yesterday launchpad began to check the game installation then downloaded and replaced three files;
    paks/mod01_dun_tombs_of_night_SG.vpk, eq2_default.ini and paks/OP3englishVoiceOver38.vpk
    On pressing play Everquest2 launched and I arrived at character select. So, I guessed that I'd solved the problem and exited the game, then launched the game again, reverted back to EUEnglish - the above 3 files were replaced again by launchpad and I pressed play... the game failed to launch again. This now happens even if I try to run the USEnglish version of the game again, even though it worked the first time I tried it.
    I have gone into control panel and reset internet options as suggested on the support forums. I have rebooted the router. I have disabled Kaspersky anti virus but the problem remains. I don't think that the problem is caused by any router or anti virus as I have EQ2 installed on an old desktop PC on the same network and the game will launch on that which also has Kaspersky installed (although it's not really playable due to an old slow CPU and GFXcard).
    This also indicates that the problem is not account related. I have three accounts and the problem is the same on all three.
    I have tried validating game assets two or three times but that changes nothing, I have the full game installed. I have tried running the game configuration and changing EQ2 settings (screen size etc) too but that changes nothing.
    I have tried to run as administrator. I have also tried bypassing launchpad and running Everquest2.exe directly but it won't launch.

    I've run out of ideas now, has anyone else had this issue, or can anyone think of a way of fixing it?

    Edited typos.

    Just updated the GFXcard drivers to a slightly newer version = no change to the problem.
    Also, had a look through MSinfo.txt and noticed;

    The sound card drivers are quite old but they're the most up to date I can find for this laptop (Clevo W870CU).
    Here's the DxDiag.txt down to the sound card info...

    Im following your thread with interest, I noticed Ive had major lag issues since the qeynos revamp. I usually can play the game with high settings and its came to a point last week where I was lagging so bad the screen froze for like 20 sec.
    Rebooted and it was alot better but still sluggish, not normal for me.
    So since the soemote thing went live, now Im having this issue like you are.

    For me its;
    1. Launch Everquest2 from the desktop icon.
    2. Launchpad launches and displays the green 'Play' button.
    3. On pressing 'Play' the button changes to 'Playing' and stays that way. it doesnt revert like yours.

    So after waiting 20 mins and still no log in, I would restart the launcher and if I got the same result I kept trying until it started loading.
    Once it started loading finally, I would get this black (and sometimes white wash out) screen with Everquest border and a no responding tag, then after like 10-20 seconds it will load the screen to character select.

    So I read around on the forums and did two things that at least let me log in for now without the errors, cant say anything about the lag, but so far this is what is working to load the game.
    -Go to your screen sleep mode and turn it never go to sleep. My screen (not pc) was set to sleep after 10 mins of inactivity.
    -Go into your internet browsers options and security tab- add everquest2.com to the exceptions list.
    So now Im able to log in without getting the forever "playing" thing and also removed the "not responding" tag and black/washed white welcome screen.

    My problem may come back, but it is working for me now (still laggy though).

    Given up waiting for a response from tech support and uninstalled the whole of EQ2. Now downloading again to reinstall everything fresh again. If the problem persists then I'll try your suggestions Furbaby.
    I've also been having the hanging symptoms like you for the last month or two - everquest showing as not responding for 10 seconds or so on launch.
    As your launchpad button still shows as 'Playing' I guess that everquest2.exe is still running in task manager? If so then it's probably a slightly different problem to mine as the program quits altogether, even launchpad exits itself.
    I guess that SoEmote is to blame as this was included in the last update I installed before everything died, nothing else on the computer has changed.
    *.clonewarsadventures.com, *.freerealms.com, *.soe.com and *.sony.com have already been added as 'trusted sites' in internet options, I'll try adding *.everquest2.com too just out of curiosity if I need to but I don't feel comfortable about doing so..

    Reinstalled the game and it's working now. Must have been a bad update, getting a lot less lag, faster zoning and higher fps now too, so was worthwhile. SoE's updates must leave so much crap behind that it slowly grinds the game to a halt.
    I'd advise you do the same, just make sure you save any *_eq2_uisettings.xml files you have and put them in your new EQ2 folder.
