When is there going to be something done to help those that more than meet the minimum system requirements to play the game but don't quite have the recommended requirements? It's crazy that the client keeps crashing every time after I choose my character. If I meet (more than meet) the minimum system requirements, I should be able to play. I'm running on Windows 7 Home Premium OS. Manufacturer: Acer Laptop Model: A0722 Processor: AMD C-60 APU with Radeon(TM) HD Graphics 1.00 GHz Installed Memory: 2.00 GB (1.73 GB usable) System Type: 64-bit Operating System As I previously stated, this more than meets the minimum requirements but it's not quite the recommended requirements. There is NO REASON that I should not be able to play on this computer.
That is not a laptop nor is it a desktop, it is a notebook, an oversized tablet. Even though it may say Laptop, Acer is lying to you cause that is a notebook processor. The AMD C-xx and the built-in GPU have not been supported since their introduction. The other AMD notebooks using AMD E1-2100 APU or similar APU will also not run EQ pass the character selection screen. If someone does they have not acknowledged it. No players have come forward who have been successful on logging into EQ pass the character selection. And anyone with any knowledge and patient to either run a debugger or play with the command lines in an already filled out eqclient.ini will likely be playing EQ on a system meant for it. And it has been forwarded. All you can do is generate a bug report with the necessary info, and be clear it is a notebook. I will say they should update their minimum requirements to exclude smartphones/tablets/netbooks/notebooks. Just because it acts like a desktop at times does not make it so. /shrugs EverQuest is available exclusively on PC Minimum: - Operating System: Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 - Processor: 1 GHz Processor - Ram: 512MB - Graphics Card: NVIDIA Ti 4800 or ATI 9800 - Hard Drive: 10 GB of Free Disk Space Recommended: - Operating System: Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 - Processor: Pentium 4 or better - Ram: 2 GB - Graphics card: NVIDIA 6800 or ATI x1800 Note: Not all Direct3D cards are supported. DirectX 9.0b or greater is required for all XP/Vista installations.
With that said, go to your EQ folder, you should have an eqclient.ini file. Open it with notepad and insert the following, replacing everything else. Posts from Augur and such do show that with Intel CPU/GPU, such as what is in the Surface Pro/Pro 2, Everquest will run on those but then the CPU is an Intel i-5. Billed as having the heart of a laptop but the body of a tablet. AMD part is the heart of a tablet, body of a notebook With the newest higher speed AMD CPUs EQ will run in Turbo mode unless the FSB/Frequency is locked at or below 200mhz and clock speed kept at or below 4.2ghz.
Thank you for your replies, Sarkaukar. I appreciate your time. I guess I won't be able to play until I can upgrade my desktop or my notebook.
Does the desktop run, or is it running XP and you do not wish to use it at this time? EQ will run on ALMOST any old computer, as long as it is running XP and has the most recent dx9c installed.
The desktop runs but had installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it. Had XP Pro on it before. Might have to go back to it and re install XP. I also have better than DX9c on both computers.
DX9c is the most recent version. Anything else is DX10 or higher, and does not apply to EQ. You need to download the DX9(c) patch from the microsoft.com site and install it.
Yes, DirectX doesn't replace itself across major versions you just have different versions then the program uses a version, for EQ you will need to install 9.0c, but it wont effect the version you currently have.
He is correct. They are also installed in different locations so there is no overwriting of files. Even if you re-installed XP you would still need to download and install Directx 9c. Use this one first. It is initially a small download that then downloads the rest of the files. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 If it says there is a newer version, use this redistribution file/download. I use this when I have to install DX9c, or if I think a file or two may have become corrupted this is the one I use as it overwrites/replaces any existing dx9c file. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 With Win7, make sure to set Power management in the control panel to best performance.
My computer won't re install XP even though it worked before. Thank you everyone for your help and I'll be back in Norrath in a couple of years. Take care!
