WTF why do people want to remove Crown fights?

    ^this
I hate it because people wont stop defending it, even if its the last base you have.
There were times I was able to spot enemy tanks from within the warpgate, while there were still galaxies asking for people to defend crown.

The base itself is nice, as its more difficult to capture than other bases.
But people get so focused on that little piece of land, that the enemy can capture all your territory

Shame I'm NC. I've been to Helios maybe once in all the time I've played. But from my end, defending Tawrich is a lot of fun. One of the few places where you get serious fights and engagements in the satellites.

I don't mind the crown i'm just sick of being there. I'm pretty bored with indar as a whole. I really hope SOE fixes it soon. Every once in a while a good battle will break out on Esamir. Amerish just isn't used at all and it's a shame. I remember just after launch and some of the battles on Amerish, great place to play if you can find anyone to shoot at.

exactly that's another GREAT place to fight just on indar. also Arroyo Torre canyon is amazing over by NC warpgate.

TawRich was fun until they nerfed Tech Plants. Before that update you could have every TR on Matherson all inside that plant holding off VS and NC alike.

The Crown and Bio Labs are pretty much the same at this point. They could be much more interesting, but too many of the attackers and defenders don't want to actually attack or defend. If they take the base/clear out the attackers, their farm dries up. So they just farm certs instead, which is why both of them are such population black holes - the defenders rarely try to actually kick out the defenders (practically no effort to kill Sunderers below the air pads of Bio Labs or recap the spawn outposts) and then counter-push across the map.

I had some fun times pushing uphill attacking the Crown shortly after release, but now enough of the 'attackers' are just there to farm certs instead of trying to capture it that it's kinda pointless to try to mount an actual offense, since so few of them will follow you up the hill.

    I hate the crown.
I don't attack it except on rare occasion.
I don't defend it except on rare occasion.

The reason I hate it is simple.
There are far too many players that want to do nothing except sit on the crown all day long defending it.
Or worse they march up the crown as cannon fodder over and over and over and want you do do it with them.

These players won't lift a finger to help attack or defend any place else. You can be screaming for assistance elsewhere and they will not leave the crown for anything.
  8. Monnor

Its a freaking black hole , it sucks everything inside, and left a empty space.

    From my point of view:

#1: The crown is fun because the tank zergs don't really have anywhere to go over the steep terrain. It's mainly an infantry battle.
#2: The air can still have its time there to suppress the infantry by making quick passes.
#3: The territories around the crown ALSO have massive amounts of action because of platoons trying to defend them to get major influence on the switch of the crown.

Also, #4: Biolabs are very defensible, but a coordinated platoon can easily charge in and get some action going, with a hard-fought battle between attacker and defender. It's one of the best places for a massive-scale infantry only battle where nobody is truly safe. All classes can fulfill their role here. Yes, even infiltrators because they can pick off people trying to get through the door.

The only time my outfit really goes to the crown is when we have a full platoon that can hot drop in, hack the terminals, get sunderers and tanks out of there, and spread like a virus from the inside out. Also, spawn beacons so we can keep getting in on the action. Our platoon spreads out like wildfire and can normally crush the defense because as we spread, we get a few libs to go overhead and zepher the spawn room some to relieve the infantry pressure. Coordination can easily turn the crown over.

They should make a continent that's nothing but the Warp Gates, TI Alloys, Crossroads, and the Crown. Okay, you can replace TI Alloys with another kind of base since what you can spawn there directly is limited last I checked, but all you need are those three stations in spirit.
Bad idea, you say? it's not like people who go and sit around the Crown all day have any reason to care about the rest of the map.

    Crown fight:

    * A line of 4 or 5 mags sitting at the ridge from Crossroads Tower, exchanging fire until one side retreats / exits to repair. Repeat
    * Occassionally some ESF wander close and AA MAXes on the landing platform open up
    * There is always two AMS Sundy down at the hill, one north one south, from each of the factions
    * Rambos dropping onto the tower and run around fighting people repairing turrets
    * Rambos camping the top of the tower taking potshots at people
    * Two faction's rambos fight each other on top of the tower
    * LAs sneaking up to

It is one of the most frustrating place to be - so much shooting for the very occasional death spam - nothing changes for hours to come.

The Crown becomes a useless population vacuum. It's really bad for low-pop servers like Helios, as half of your team is at any given moment at the Crown.
  14. Malsvir Vishe

Make it all the facilities around the crown. That'd probably make an awesome arena style map that's open for only one day a week. This would mean the arena is locked for six days a week to the victor.
  15. Rager

You know..i've never been to the crown. Maybe I should farm some certs there..might enjoy the game a little more if I got certs a tad faster. I'm always defending and gain xp slow :0
  16. Gyver

Crown fights can be epic.... or very frustrating.

It's like the first 20 min of 'Saving Private Ryan'.

When defending, I wished I could hear the moans of defigured zergs looking for their lost limbs on the beach.

When attacking, I am the sniper who run into a corner headshotting *****...

The crown is an odd collection of possitive and negative things. On the one hand, it is one of the very few bases which it is possible to mount an effective defence against superior numbers, and on the other, it is the place where those less able or less settled with the idea of a map bigger than 3 buildings seem to gravitate so that they can grind certs/xp.

I've been asking for more defensible bases since the early days of beta, but they have been reluctant to heed mine and others calls. My possition on the crown has always remained the same. Regretful that the only decent base defence to be had is at a pointless rock in the middle of the map where all the sons and daughters of BF3 may find some portion of thier comfort zone, and because of the never tireing waves of those who also wish to spend thier hours, the hapless and closed minded dwellers find thier reward and therefore all the reason they need to stay.

Personaly, i'd rather take the miriad of other bases. Those who sugest they are all empty have clearly never been there, or have activly avoided a fight. However, the game allowes each of us to find thier own game and those who would reside at the crown are free to do so. I just hope SoE don't arrive at a day where they figure all they need do is make lots of servers with copies of little maps less than 1KM square, all with just one feature on them, The Crown. there are already plenty enough limited games like that, and i'm not eager to see this become another one of them.
  18. phreec

The Crown is always the same predictable drawn out meatgrinder. It has its moments but the fights always turning out pretty much same gets boring quite fast. Ghost capping is dull as hell too, but at least it moves the fight forward.
  19. Cl1mh4224rd

Could you imagine if every facility was as defensible as The Crown? It would be... awful. No progress except where the facility is undefended or the attackers overwhelmingly outnumber the defenders.
  20. Shedeh

Crown is like Omaha Beach , countless Guys rushing top and die until the Mass is to big to deal with it.
That's why i can't understand the argument about zerging, because Crown is the best example how zerging works.
