WTF why do people want to remove Crown fights?

I'm sorry there's a place in the game where the defenders can actually defend while still allowing both sides to employ vehicles. I'm sorry there's a place where you can't just mindlessly roll hordes of tanks in and cap in a minute while the defenders get camped in their spawn.

The Crown is literally the most well designed location in the game.

Biolabs are just pure infantry farm, but the Crown actually lets your vehicles do something if you're welling to take the risk of flying over it or driving up the hill. It rewards good coordinated attacks and stalls mindless zerging.

I know people complain that every one goes there and let the other factions take all the territory, but who cares? OMG 10% infantry bonus!

Its because its an area thats far too easy to defend due to its height and does nothing but create a massive unpassable bottle neck in the middle of the map.
  3. Ganelon

I like the Crown, I hate the ****ers who don't want to push forward from the Crown and just farm certs.

They dont like not being able to farm.I would like to see a system like in Age of Conan where you can build your own bases (clan bases). It wouldn't be impossible to do, the better a Clan is, the more base options they can open up. This alone would boost Clan rivalry's an promote more large scale battles.

God forbid defenders actually having an advantage right? How dare they not roll over at the first sign of the tank horde!

Yeah nice but I've made several threads since start of beta about how bases need to be more defendable and suggestions about what they could do, defenders should always have the advantage and ability to defend a base or its pointless capturing them. However the problem with the crown is caused by the layout of the ground/roads and mountain type area it sits atop.

I've never actually gotten why people like Crown fights so much. I've defended up there a few times and as mainly an engineer, it's kind of boring. I lay a few mines if I can, otherwise I fix stuff and occasionally crack a few rounds off at infantry far out of my carbine's effective range. if they actually push up the hill to the buildings, it degenerates into the same sort of massive render-distance cluster-you-know-what that happens at any other base. And if you're an attacker--again, as somebody who mostly plays infantry--it's a meatgrinder. You're charging uphill while getting decimated by HE spam and occasional HAs. I'll grant that it's one of the few locations where MANA turrets actually can be really deadly.

The best times I've had at The Crown were gunning one of the AV Phalanx turrets against the occupants of Magrider Hill over at TI Alloys. I'd shoot them, they'd shoot me, I'd bail out, they'd blow the turret, I'd fix it, repeat. 20 minutes solid and I never got a kill between their little Magrider Strafe Dance, the fact base turrets are woefully underpowered and basically useless, and how many of them there were. I got more than a few certs repairing the silly thing, though.

It's because of that terrain layout that the Crown is defensible. The base itself is just as crappy as any other base. Only difference is the fact that tanks have trouble getting up the choke and the defenders have a clear view of the sky.

The Crown is just pure epic some times. Its so massive and hectic, and its all playerdriven. A fortress upon the highest mountain, where you can see all the way in every direction, surrounded and defended by all kinds of ground and air vehicles and troops in all variants. This sh*t is unique. No other game can provide this, and wont provide this for years to come.

    SEND SOE ALL YOUR CASH!

And to those that dont like it, think of the pure potential in this. There will be new continents, and gameplay will be tweaked in the future. Lets just hope render-distance is among the first things to get fixed.

(Yes, I work on provision, just put in "deaded" as reference when you send them your cash.)

Not many people do. Actually I would say the majority want all bases to be like the crown. Balanced between vehicle and infantry combat and giving the defenders the advantage of owning the facility.

I actully only log on anymore to see if a crown fight has broken out. If not, I log off. All my friends already quit PS2 and moved to Warframe and other F2P games. They all had the same complaints. PS2 was a boring zerg-fest of indefensible bases, vehicle farming and repetition.

Because it wastes faction resources to assault/defend/be there.

There's also plenty of defensible bases out there that aren't crown, people just don't bother to fight there.

    2 types of PS2 players:

#1: I love the crown, the gudfights, actually playing an FPS game and wish the other bases were more defensive so we would get gudfights elsewhere. You don't often hear from these players because they are playing.

#2: The crown is for noobs, lets form a zerg and ghost cap empty bases and call the crown useless because we secured a whole bunch of extra resource points which people didn't need. These people are pretty vocal because they have a lot of "sitting on the flag" time.

The Crown? Southern path is a death trap. A long, empty bottleneck soon to be filled with a wall of bullets. If you're lucky, the defenders won't be paying attention to the northern path.

I only hate it because of the lack of cover on both paths, less so for the northern path. You basically run up the hill and hope you timed it right so you don't get hit by the walls of bullets.
  14. Torque221

The Crown is fun but I wouldn't want every base to be like the crown.
  15. FateJH

I dislike the Crown because that that whole area activates some sort of mindless focus mode, causing whole regions of the continent to fall where they would normally be defended. For some reason, as long as one faction holds the Crown, some feel that they can not care about losing the rest of Indar. Campaigns that might have gone somewhere good for the faction congregate at the Crown and die.

It's terribly hard to shift people's focus way from "holding the Crown" or "capping the Crown" to ensure that our whole faction can reliably acquire the resources it needs to play the rest of the game. You want to know what futility is like? feeling like you're the only person who cares about losing Mao to the NC.

As someone pointed-out, though, it's harder to get people to do anything else if their faction doesn't hoold the Crown at the time. New players to the game should not be sent to the Crown on defense, however: it can destroy all perception of the game being team-based or anything more than just mindlessly shooting and mindlessly dying. I also made a concession for the NC; it feels like they have trouble moving against the VS's border and Peris using Ground troops unless they own Crossroads, so the Crown battle is important to their frontline, else they have to squeeze through the bottlenecked mountainous terrain north of Zurvan.

    Because it's usually guaranteed action.

Given that the rest of the map is often zerg or be zerged, it's nice to actually have targets to shoot at and bullets to avoid.

Much preferable to spending the day on Amerish with a zerg outfit playing the worlds most popular bus-driving sim.

i like Quartz alot better then the crown or the Tri spot (indar excavation, Ceres, helios) i think its the best designed little block of indar. You have Excavation to provide vehicles + as a fall back point. Ceres is highly defensible as well in a position to threaten Dahaka, and Helios defends Indar and covers Cere's flank. Had some betaesqe fights there all last night.

    Crown > Your face.
  19. Phyr

People are afraid to die, and attacking the crown has a good chance of death, so people wont push forward, resulting in a boring stalemate.
  20. Palor

This. I think most people just wish that there were more places they could defend like the crown. Maybe not quite as defensible as the crown but something between the crown and the average location where defenders dont stand a chance.
