Would You Attend: Sniper Training?

I played BF3 a lot. How could the class be handicapped? If I omit usage of MAV and motion spotter, I could go 1x shooting and pop heads / 2 shots to the body or do the same with 8x. No assault would stand a chance if my aim was good that day. A sniper that hits is the most deadly class over the range.

In PS2 it works all the same. Except you can be almost invisible too.

It's all about skill. Sniping is high skill / high reward. Unless you're shooting dummies.

PS if I don't manage to kill someone, it almost always ends as an assist.

So you're saying your sniper can lock down behind enemy lines and take out all enemy deployed sundies, ending their attack altogether?

I'll take it even a step further: snipers and HE cannons are both absolutely useless in the game, and have only one purpose: killing defenceless infantry (with no real impact on the battle). And even at THAT, HE does ****loads better than snipers.

well, that was just an example straight out of my head, not actual in-game data. Also I simplified it a little bit because the important angle is actualy the angle between your target's running direction and the line of horizon, not between running direction and your position. Also, what is strange, the actual ammount of lead depends on the scope you're using, because 1 mildot on 8x scope is not equal to 1 mildot on 10x scope. That's because devs probably didn't expect anybody to use them in that way and they put them on scopes only for decoration purposes.

I can guarantee this works because I have auraxed 4 BASRs this way (+ impetus, yes I have the Moonshot) so by now I'd probably notice if it didn't work.

But you wanted some actual data so yeah, I could give you that. Just tell me what sniper rifle you're using (just not Railjack cuz it gets complicated) and the exact scope. Also this doesn't work with a supressor on.

I will probably make a thread about this technique next week (I have no mouse right now, keyboard only. That complicates some things...) including mathematical proof for my theory if you're interrested

Because of 2 things : a single bullet shot in your general direction gives you surpression and depression and the fact that the class has no inherent AV ability whatsoever. Id rather use slugs on a shotgun than a sniper rifle tbh.

    Are you talking of PS2?

Hacking a terminal and pulling machinery is a good vehicle ability, hacking turrets too. What suppression do you mean? Enemy shooting at me doesn't really affect my aim unless I allow it. But usually I'm the first shooting.

BASR are top notch weapons capable of clearing whole squads in seconds if combined with perfect aim.

It's all in your head. It's a matter of building your skill.

I guess you don't know who Elusive is, right? Snipers are the deadliest weapons combined with perfect aim of a user. Saying they are useless is just plain ignorance or lack of skill on your side and believing other people are the same.

Defenseless enemies... really... Do you know what aggressive sniping is? Watch this vid and dare you tell me snipers are useless. Behold ownage of everyone by one sniper.

  6. Hicksimus

No, I would not attend sniper training.

See, that's all you need to say.
  7. DrPapaPenguin

No, I was talking about BF3. I know recons are useful in PS2, I just wouldn't go to a sniper rifle as my default weapon.
  8. Czarinov

BF3, recons DPS ability is the same as in PS2, considering there are no heavies, even better. MAV, motionspotter, SOFLAM (to lock vehicles for Javelins).
  9. Jawarisin

Yeah, they made it ******** strong on bc2, and then decided to nerf it down to the ground in bf3 ^^
  10. Ianneman

One single prodigy in one niche makes sniping the most influential class in the game. Excellent reasoning.
  11. Jawarisin

haha, I can understand where it's coming from. And if you added a bunch of "rules", it could probably work out. Simply because 1 mil dot will be a bigger distance at bigger distance etc. I didn't think much on it because I'm usually going with my "gut" feeling and muscle memory. But I could see it working. Would have to think on it for a few minutes.

You need to kill infanty at some point though. But why don't you list your stats. I'm quite sure I've killed more sundies than you too (libby ftw). But I see you know I'm right, and that you don't want to share your stats hehehehehehehehehehehehe. HAHAHA. show me your stats, that's all I've got to say.
  13. Czarinov

I have only one thing to say for this. Don't base weapon / class effectiveness on your lack of skills.

Like I said, BASRs are beasts. They are only useless if their user is useless. You see where I am going with this...
  14. Weterman

I think the reason sniping is so hard is because it's hard to see where your bullet lands. A game I play, Mount and Blade Warband, (medieval battlefield, basically) I'm pretty good at hitting moving targets, even in the head. But I'm horrible at hitting moving targets in ps2. In m&b, you can see the arrow, no matter how far it goes. In ps2, you just see a little light come out of your gun, and you don't know how far away it is when it lands. That makes it almost impossible to adjust your aim to hit a target.
  15. Czarinov

if you don't see your tracers, you need to up your particle setting. I play with high and it's enough distance for me. Ultra would be best ofc.
  16. Weterman

I thought they got rid of the particle slider a long time ago. I don't see it anywhere in options.
  17. Czarinov

It's a Particles setting. It's not a slider, it's an option box on the bottom-right. Ultra, High, Med, Low.

BTW has nothing to do with Render distance.

I have aurax my fav TR weapon RAMS. Sniping is great fun, it's an art form. Finding a good vantage point to spot enemy flank positions, taking out fellow snipers long range right on top of their moving head, great fun. During my time as a sniper I was mostly recon from long range spotting enemy positions helping my team get to better fighting positions, spotting tanks, esf etc. shooting millions of recon darts. Snipers from long range can be a real asset but you have to accept the good and bad. Some days you get owned constantly some days you will rack up so many kills it's like fish in a barrel. Just remember if you are far away guys will come looking for you. A well placed claymore goes a long way. I always carried the 2, saved my backside so many times. Enjoy sniping

This gives me an idea. I could hold a school of NC gameplay, invite a bunch of NC then blow them to hell with C4. A lesson of life for NC.
