Would LA be the best class to start off with Vanu?

Hi guys (yeah, I know my name is strange), just wondering whether LA would be the best class to start off with in terms of weapons, damage etc. for Vanu. I'd like to know soon so I could start my Vanu character!:)

The Solstice is a good carbine, but as far as starter weapons go (albeit all of them are pretty decent) nothing comes close to the Orion. Meaning - HA.

    Thanks, will do!

HA should be your goto class 95% of the time, and LA when you're in one of those facilities with gigantic walls everywhere. Use the shotgun when you're LA, especially with extended mags it's very strong.

I think LA is probably the hardest infantry class to start with, unless you have a lot of experience playing LA for other factions already. You need to max out your jetpack to be really effective.

Play medic or engineer for a lot of easy certs (revive, heal, repair, resupply) or Heavy if you just want to shoot stuff and crush peasants who don't have an overshield.

Normally it's recommended to play support roles in the beginning. This will help to be useful while you learn the game. Medics and engineers are always welcome in all squad compositions. Repair Tool and Med Tool is something that most players max out sooner or later.

Light Assault is not a bad class to main, but it requires some certs in it to reach the full potential. Regen implant and 2x C4 is almost mandatory, and Jump Jet upgrades are very important too. Nanoweave is a good choice, and Rank 5 is worth it.

As far as weapons go, Solstice is very competitive all-rounder, but personally I'd prefer Pulsar C. You can get it for free with the quiz when you create the character, and it's one of the most accurate weapons in the game, and has a higher damage per magazine than other VS carbines, which have 30 rounds of 143 damage, barely enough.

Light Assault requires both superb gunplay skills and positioning skills. LA is naturally a weaker class, and you must use your hands and brain to play yourself out of that disadvantage.

Gunplay is mostly similar across classes, but only LA has Jet Pack.
While you play, say, medic, you learn positioning skills of other ground troops as well. But only LA moves like LA. LA positioning is a separate skill set, so if you ever will need to play as another class, it's gonna be hard to transition to that from LA.

One big issue with starting out as a Medic or Engineer is your main tool will be default instead of leveled up. People want medics with a medic tool at 5/6, same for Engineer's repair tool. No MAX wants to get revived and find out they have 5% health (I think that's the number). If a Medic Tool 5/6 revives them, it's 25/30%, which means they can take more hits and the engineer needs to spend less time repairing. Lower repair tool means less efficient healing on the MAX.

So it's a nasty Catch-22: Best way to get certs in the beginning is as a Medic/Engineer, but people won't like how inefficient your starting tools are compared to someone who has their tool at rank 5 or 6.

If this is your first character in PS2 (meaning, you don't have any experience in the game), you shouldn't start with LA, if that's not the case then go ahead, the Solstice is actually pretty good, it wouldn't be the best though, in the case of VS the best starter is the HA with the Orion.

LA isn't that hard, find roof, shoot people, repeat. Seriously, the game has been out over a year and folks still forget to look up when one of the classes has access to a jump pack.

That said, you shoulnt lock your mindest into "I play this class," like water you need to change with the shape of the environment, and that means being ready to change classes at a moments notice.

So, by the looks of that, HA it is!:)

no i wouldn't say that if your completely new to the game i think LA is the best because it has no tool and your just focusing on killing. when i first started playing the game i was an engineer and didn't know why or how that little black thingy work or did

Pure killing with no tools and no crutch (HA shield) would be a difficult start for a beginner. I know, it's why my K/D is under 1 to this day.

HA is probably the best class for starters (nobody really expect much from you, only shooting the bad guys) but as soon as you start gaining some certs I'd switch for medic and immediately pump up your medgun to at least rank 3-4. People will love you, you'll be able to self-heal and you'll gain a lot more certs more quickly.

Only downside as VS medic is the limited weapon choice. Standard AR isn't bad but it's not good either and the Corvus you get with the quiz requires a lot of skill to be used to its full potential. As a new VS medic you'll probably want to go with the HV45 and stay away from long-range engagements.

I'd strongly advise against LA as a starting class unless you already have extended experience with similar gameplay mechanics from precedent games.

Only way to get better with LA is to play LA op.

It is more challenging as a new player because you don't have the map/situational awareness but that will come with time. If you have the skill from other shooters, you shouldn't have a problem picking it up and enjoying that vertical mobility.

My advice on class choice is always to "use the class that is needed in the situation". I think the game experience is much more interesting when you mix it up a bit and your allies will also benefit greatly from someone that competently knows how to fill different roles.

If you are new to the game, you'll probably want to explore the various classes and see what fits your playstyle and what you have fun doing. The MAX class is not really that great without matching arms (either dual AI, AV or AA), but you probably won't be pulling that a lot anyway due to resource costs.

That exploration also includes the Light Assault - just keep in mind that without upgrades like C4, there is really no other way of earning XP than spotting, shooting people or driving vehicles. It's really fun to play in area with a lot of terrain and buildings though, so you should definitely give that a go at some point.

In terms of improving your character, always go for the support classes to earn your first batch of certs. I've yet to find someone complain about being rezzed with a low rank medtool or repaired by a low rank repair tool - usually people are grateful that someone even bothers doing it or is around to do those things instead of shooting guys, and it's a much more reliable income of cert points than relying on shooting things.

Heres some great tips for starting VS br1, I wouldnt suggest light assault at first, go with medic to earn some more certs :)

Play all classes and vehicles you can. After you get an idea of how different things work, you can start investing those orange cookies into the branches you want. I would still recommend not specialising into a single thing though - PS2 encourages having experience and upgrades in a variety of roles you juggle as needed instead of doing only one thing.

A good thing you can try if you like LA:
They have carbines, like engineers, so if you cert into solstice/pulsar c/serpent (you really don't need much out of these 3) all your attachments will be unlocked for LA, and you will have a touch for the weapons already. Then again, if you want to shoot at things more than anything else, go for HA at first, it is really noob friendly and is a goto class. You always need a HA in every battle, something you can't say of every class. It will help you get certs will playing. And orion is a beast! :)
