    ok i was with you up until you brought back the old saron. that thing was cheese, plain and simple. the current saron could use some AV buffs since it is mostly useless against infantry, but bringing back the old cannon would put the magrider directly into OP territory.

    As for the update. I really don't get how nerfing tank weapons to force shorter range gameplay is supposed to make it more interesting. As it is now, as soon as I move too far forward, even by a few meters, I'm at serious risk of a quick death, be it by focus fire, mana AT turrets, or c4.

    I really don't know why they want to encourage tankers to make bad decisions simply because they're forced to move into bad situations in order to make use of their weapons.

    The real problem with the stabilized turret combined with strafing is the reverse speed buff tanks are getting. So now the vanguard, prowler, and lightning can move forward and backwards at full speed, while strafing a target, while the magrider is still only going to do so at 20kph. Just another reason not to pull a mag.

    It'll take a few months, but once they see people are no longer using mags, they'll start thinking about maybe fixing it. A few months later they'll actually have some ideas on the road map for fixing magriders, but by then they'll probably have changed a bunch of other stuff, so their ideas won't even matter /sigh.

    IMO - the range tweak to tanks is needed. I was just playing at the Crown in the rear AA turret - and got taken out by a Prowler camped at the far side of the Palisade.

    When it comes to the effect on tank on tank gameplay - how many people regularly engage other tanks from 3 or 4 hexes away - and even if they do - is the game better for it?
  4. MonnyMoony

    I like the new Saron - it's my favourite weapon when i'm running as a gunner.

    If you are accurate - it can be almost as deadly as the original - but with rapid fire, it also gives options. I'd hate for it to change back.

    He didn't say the old old Saron, he said the pre 6 shot Saron. which is the Halberd with no drop, but a 250 ms fire delay. It wouldn't be OP, it would just be boring from a diversity perspective.
  6. iccle

    Neither the vanguard or the prowler can strafe, nor is the patch adding strafe for them, at all, zip, zero, zilch.

    So to answer the thread title:
    Strafe speed pre-patch:
    magrider = X
    prowler = 0
    vanguard = 0

    Strafe speed post patch:
    magrider = X
    prowler = 0
    vanguard = 0

    /thread

    The 1 shot 1 kill saron? It wasn't OP, it was taken away because "it was to similar to the halberd" which was BS.

    Nitpicking of the definition of words are done by desperate people who actively try to derail threads because they are incapable of proper balance discussions.

    On the contrary, the thread title clearly suggests that somehow buffing turret stabilization will magically enable 2 tank types with no strafe ability to somehow strafe "3x faster than the mag", which it won't. If you are not going to say what you mean or mean what you say then whats the point in saying anything. People who post sensationalist threads with very little fact in either the title or post in order to bolster their view of a perceived hurt are done by desperate people who actually have no real quantifiable grievance.

    If you have concerns about how the magrider will perform after the MBT update why not post those concerns in the thread the dev (who is asking for feedback) is actually watching?

    Ah, and would the point have been any different if i had written "move sideways while firing?"

    No, it wouldn't It would have been the exact same thing. You are just desperately trying to derail this thread by actively pretending to not understand something that is obvious to everyone who aren't massively biased.

    I am not trying to derail anything, if you want to discuss gameplay changes that is fine but the premise should be based in fact not fantasy.
    Forward/reverse movement is not strafing and never will be, facing is as critical in tank vs tank engagements as positioning, every time.

    The magrider after the update will still be the only tank that can actually strafe, you will be able to remain hull forward and firing while strafe dodging shots and reversing or going forward at full speed, your foes if they want to emulate you will have to turn their sides to you exposing the weaker armor and still will be completely unable to strafe.
  13. lawn gnome

    no being able to hop behind a tank and kill them before they even realize they are taking damage was pretty OP. i used it back in beta and the thing was easy mode if the driver was evenly remotely competent. it was worse than the current tank buster.
  14. vanu123

    If you get behind a tank you should be rewarded like that, there was nothing wrong with the old saron, it was high risk high reward. If you hit your shot you were rewarded, if you missed you more than likely were killed.
  15. Vortok

    I love how it feels like 90% of people only talk about MBTs when it comes to tank changes, as if the Lightning (Vanu use that too) doesn't exist and the only targets that MBTs fight is other MBTs and everything else that shoots at or is shot at by a tank must be ignored when changes are discussed.

    Turret stability is something we've been asking to get for a long time. Since other major tank changes are accompanying it, we can be sure that the devs will be watching stats. If the Mag suddenly starts sucking big time then it'll show in their tracking metrics and they'll make further adjustments to bring the vehicle back in line. Whether or not those adjustments will be well thought out or hackneyed is a matter of personal opinion and debate though, heh.

    The last time that happened it took 3 months before Highy would even enter a Magrider to realize how badly he ****** things up with it. Want a later example? ZoE was nerfed so badly no one used it yet it took 6 months for Highby to recognize that it was not used and another month to get a buff and guess what; it's still not used because it still sucks!

    So excuse us VS players if we're only a wee bit concerned at the moment.

    it's not just us on the VS side. the shield for the NC MAX suits has remained mostly useless for a long time, the NC vehicle mounted shotgun LOL, the jackhammer (again more NC), the striker for the TR (not useless just pathetic compared to the other lock on launchers), actually when i sit back and think about it for the most part the TR have leveled off and i don't really see any major OP or UP issues with them like the other two factions, but the point is vanu does not hold a monopoly on getting screwed.
  18. Flag

    Maybe, but the great magrider nerf is -still- the worst nerf in Planetside 2 history.
    And even that took ages to fix. Once higby was forced to drive one the reverting didn't take long because they actually got a grasp of how badly they had ruined the Mag.

    Since then there's not been a nerf like it. And you should hope that there never will be.
  19. lawn gnome

    i am still very concerned, but my point was that it is not entirely one sided all of the factions have been screwed in the past.
  20. Kerplunk

    IMO we don't need to wait and see. It's obvious... Mag is at a disadvantage in every sense now. Armor, dmg and speed. All lower than every other MBT. Purely by the numbers is ridiculous.

    If they don't do something for Mags during this patch, bye vanu. I'm sure PS2 will lose even more players.
