Why The Crown should die, and why it could be the coolest thing to happen in our lore.

This isn't about conquest at all, this about putting the biggest masses of people together possible for the biggest fights. I don't think you understand that, there will be more than enough reason to stick with the front line because it will be sending you towards massive amounts of enemies. If you want a fight, this is where you should go.
  2. 9thPower

Well my idea mainly stems from the new hex system which will make it almost meaningless. There will not be the same level of fights at the Crown anymore. People want to fight there because it is easy to defend and in the middle of the map. That isn't something they need to apply anywhere else to the map, bases need to be a challenge, but it is clear that defending it is very easy.

Why would i go anywhere when everybody is grouped up at X holding still? Why would i try to push through X to capture it instead of just staying there where the fight already is and shooting each other?
  4. Skiptis

That place is a tumor for any faction on any server.*

    Fixed that for you.
  5. 9thPower

That is the thing, the new hex system will allow you to constantly be in the biggest battles. If you have a problem with that, well, that sucks because they are definitely putting in the new hex system. The Crown may stick around, but it won't get the same traffic it once did.

I just came in here to comment on the whole "it could be the coolest thing to happen in our lore" claim.

I don't know about that. I mean, this idea would have to compete with the biolab crash site in... Esamir? I think? The crashed bio lab is just a real small "gesture," something easy to miss but rewarding for those who pay attention. It doesn't bring attention to itself. Yet at the same time, it reveals a LOT about the lore and the kinds of things the TR had to face while colonizing the planet.
This idea would be competing against the crash site for "coolest thing to happen." I don't know. Doesn't seem like this change can compete with the perfection that is the crash site.

Now I could go on and talk about how removing the Crown would just cause everyone to mindlessly defend another base (possibly TI Alloys? Have you ever been in a situation where nobody was attacking the crown and platoons from all sides came to attack TI Alloys instead? Way more fun than camping atop the crown in my opinion...) but this thread has plenty of Crown worship/complaints and not enough idea addressing.

I don't want something easy to miss. I want something that serves as a constant reminder to what The Crown once was. Even if you feel this wouldn't be the coolest thing, it could easily be one of the coolest. We don't have much lore to begin with, it is really never mentioned. This at least gives us something tangible in the universe that we were apart of.

People would not just mindlessly defend another base because they are going to make the masses of people funnel into the largest fights by creating pathways you have to attack in order to continue down to major bases. You can't just cap anything touching the base you own. This is why The Crown is already dead. I just want to make it look awesome ;)

The way I figure it, anything more obvious than the crash site is too obvious. Maybe even obnoxious, especially when everyone on Indar will see it at least once a day. Maybe when there's 6+ continents and all... but that's pretty far away.

I figure the "hextice" system will lessen the Crown's importance, but it won't become just another outpost. I can easily imagine two zergs colliding at the Crown then fighting for 4 hours while some nearby facilities are ghost capped (and yeah I realize the capture rate is planned to be static with the update) because there's no real incentive for people to go elsewhere even though their choices are more obvious. But who can say yet? Maybe another outpost, just because of where it is placed on the map, will become a high-traffic Crown-like area even if the Crown isn't removed.
  9. 9thPower

Man.... I know... all too well.
  10. Robes

I'm going to say this one last time and maybe, just maybe you'll be able to understand it.

The crown is gone, no more crown, completely removed from the map, the new hex system is in. all 3 factions have met at TI alloys (the new very center of the hex system), what reason do any of the 3 factions have to capture TI alloys and push through the next area? Why would they not just sit there and fight (like theyre going to)? WHAT REASON IS THERE TO CAPTURE TI ALLOYS AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT AS OPPOSED TO SITTING AND FIGHTING AT IT? Can you answer that question or when the new hex system comes out are you going to be making cry threads on the forums saying "DESTROYING TI ALLOYS ITS EVIL!!!1!111!"?
  11. 9thPower

No. More obvious is not bad, The Dead Crown is a cool concept that fits the universe and could turn into one of the coolest parts of Indar. The new hex system is going to make The Crown wholly irrelevant. Instead of an average of 6 bases you can cap a territory from they will bring the average down to 3. The incentive to go elsewhere? Hundreds of people on each side being funneled into the biggests fights on the continent. It is going to change how the entire game gets played.
  12. 9thPower

Man, you are so butt hurt over this it is kind of crazy. Please get a grip. What you say is so impossible is going to happen naturally. The numbers involved will make it simply impossible for a giant group to just sit purposely and avoid capping IF capping is possible. There will be plenty of stalemates, but this system is going to allow for bigger fights more often and nothing suggests they won't go capping new territories. The people who lost, get moved back to the next place and defend again. The battles will sway back and forth quite naturally. I am not going to ask for TI alloys to be destroyed. I even stated that the main reason for this idea is because The Crown is already dead and it is simply an awesome idea.
  13. Robes

So no you cant is what you're saying, correct?
  14. Alkasirn

The "hextice" system doesn't really funnel players, it just limits valid places to attack. There's no magical nanite force that literally drags players anywhere. Whether someone can attack the Crown from 6 different bases or 3 different bases doesn't matter. If multiple platoons capture the Crown and see an enemy zerg come from... whereever they will be able to come from... I bet those platoons will gladly dig in and defend the Crown just like they always have. The only way for the faction that owns the Crown to continue is to have nobody to defend it against (or have an elite group of players that hate the Crown break through and capture the next outpost on their own... good luck). Chances are there will be players willing to attack the Crown because the hextice system won't let them go around. If a zerg gets a chance to defend the Crown the situation will be the same as it is now.
  15. 9thPower

Limiting the valid places to attack from DOES funnel players. By definition, taking it from 6 down to 3 potential pathways would create a funnel. Players won't need to be dragged, the places they can go attack will make this happen naturally. If you can't cap a certain base until you take several other bases before it, this will obviously cut down on the tiny fights at random outlying bases. I never said this game isn't going to have stalemates either. They will happen, but they won't be at the same damn place every time.
  16. Alkasirn

And they will stay be able to attack the Crown after the update. It just won't be a 24/7 thing. More like an 18/7 thing... actually, maybe it will still be a 24/7 thing.

So the moment an outpost/base connected to the Crown switches to a faction that does not own the Crown, a battle can occur. Chances are it will, too, as the Crown is ridiculously easy to defend. Just like now. Except now people can choose to attack/defend about 20 different regions at any given moment. After the update, people will only be able to choose between about 4 or 5 different regions (and if they didn't want to go to a different region before why would they now?)

The only way a Crown fight will not happen is if one faction owns the Crown and all connecting territories. Now really, what are the chances of that happening? Well, considering it happens extremely rarely now when ghost capping is easy, I imagine it's going to be even harder when the map highlights exactly where all the fights can happen.

this would be interesting, id love to see the effects of the EMP greneade be what it is if you stepped onto the mesa.....but it shouldnt be a base at all, we would still have fights, the tower should be broken in half and the other building s flattened and radiation and EMP, so no one would go there
  18. 9thPower

If The Crown is on the actual front line, then a battle there isn't something I would have a problem with. My problem with The Crown is how much is messes up the flow of the continent right now. There will be massive battles all over because of how people will be funneled. I also don't see The Crown being as easy to hold when those kinds of numbers get thrown into the fight. We are talking large portions of the entire server in a handful of places. It won't be the same, and that is a good thing.

Reminds me of Asheron's Call when the devs levelled Arwic (the main player hub/town) and turned it into a smoking crater, just because.

And that wasn't even to help gameplay. They just thought it would be cool and help the lore and immersion. "Remember back when everyone hung out in Arwic... etc. etc."
  20. Jaquio

Though, in all honesty, I really wish the devs would make the Crown more and more of a ruin with each patch. You know, holes in the walls near C where the buildings always get shelled from Magrider Hill, gaping holes in the walls, maybe have the top of the tower collapsed... just to show how much damage these buildings have sustained over time.
