Why is Jaguar praised in such high regard?

I find it too inaccurate to aimed fire to even benefit from its 0.75x ADS movement speed multiplier. It can barely do body shots to 20m even with foregrip equipped. With Trac-5 it is possible to shoot almost as well as with T5 AMC to longer ranges.

For me Trac-5 is just much more superior weapon for any kind of aimed fire and if I wanted an hip fire weapon I would get a SMG.

Yet every time someone suggests a good close-medium range carbine everyone says Jaguar instead of Trac-5.

[NOTE] I am not saying Jaguar is a bad weapon and needs a buff. I am just wondering why people praise it so much when it isn't actually that good in my opinion.

This is my experience with 15k kills combined between them.

Well, they are both top choices (out of the somewhat lackluster carbine choices TR have), but the jaguar is more geared towards shorter range and the TRAC5 is more geared towards medium-range. The jag is good for having one of the higher DPS on TR carbines and very good hipfire with a laser. The fact that it works ok at medium range just means that you can consider it a super-SMG with extra range to boot.

There is nothing wrong with the TRAC-5 though. It is more controllable in ADS. You just have to live with slightly less hipfire accuracy and the ability to quick-peek corners with 0.75x movement speed.

I think people recommend the jag so much simply because:
    - People tend to favor short-range weapons over longrange specialists (just look at the popularity of the GD-7F, Serpent, VX-7)
    - 0.75x ADS is probably the single most powerful trait a weapon can have overall (although less used on this weapon since you will still hipfire a lot, but it is still very nice to have).

Use whatever you feel works best for you. Not everyone plays the same :)

Back in the day, when shotguns had first come out, you had two choices. You would either use a shotgun and get some easy kills, but you would run out of ammo, or you would use a jaguar, which was a little bit harder to kill with but had a significantly higher ammo per magazine/total ammo pool. The reason you would use the Jag over the Trac5 was because the Jaguar had a predictable recoil pattern. Honestly I think they buffed the Trac5 at some point because I honestly cannot tell the difference in performance now. But because of this early assessment, the Jaguar is still the most recommended carbine out there.

Don't get me wrong i love my Trac-5, but the moment i got the Jag, it felt like a direct upgrade straight off the bat. Can't say what specifically about it made it feel that way, i just know what works for me and what doesn't.

I stopped using the Jag though and switched to the NS gun instead, which seems to suit my playstyle better in most situations.

    My jagggggggggggggggggg................................

    *cries in corner*

Auraxed it so long ago so now not using it :(

TRAC-5 is underrated and a great gun though :D

It's cheap, powerful, easy to use, works good for beginners and skilled players alike. As far as 143/750 weapons go, Jaguar is one of the best.

    .75 ADS OP PLS NERFFFFFFFF!

The Jaguar used to be great. Nowadays, I find it to be merely okay. The Trac-5, though, is just a good, solid gun that I prefer to use over almost every other carbine the TR has.

I don't find it to be a bad weapon, but I typically prefer ADS weapons so the Lynx's higher DPS is more my style.

    What to tell you....

    .... welcome on the TR....

The one and only Jaguar nerf I remember is vertical recoil 0.3 to 0.31 and horizontal recoil 0.225/0.275 to 0.243/0.273
    Hardly nerfed into ground.

Oh, I didn't say it was. But I can feel the difference between the old Jaguar and new, and I think it's less effective now than it used to be. Still decent, but I prefer the Trac-5 over it.
  13. Iridar51

Uhm, no, what you feel is placebo effect. 3% difference in recoil is not something you can possibly notice, and the difference indeed is 3%, in both average horizontal and vertical recoils.
  14. Stargazer86

Uhm, yes. I know what I feel. Even a minor adjustment to recoil numbers has a noticeable effect on gun performance. Just look at the recent buff they gave to the Carv in the last patch. It appears completely minor, but the overall feeling for the gun is better in terms of control. Same goes for the Jaguar. The nerf to the numbers seems small, but you can notice the effect it has.

So yeah, the new Jaguar feels worse than the old one to me.
  15. Mxiter

Did you tried the Jag with foregrip?

It's not as great as it use to be, but is still a decent weapon thanks to it's hipfire COF, SPA, decent ROF/vertical recoil patterns and expecially 0.75 ads move mult.

It's especially meh since the bandit & zenith release wich have both 0.75 ads move mult, about the same TTK, and lower horizontal recoil.
  16. DatVanuMan

The Jaguar is average at best (Can't STAND that iron sight:eek:), but my Cougar beats all:p
  17. Iridar51

I don't believe you, and the only way I would is if we did a blind test, and you'd be able to conclusively determine 10 out of 10 where is the buffed CARV and unbuffed one.
You can't claim to notice a 3% change, you just can't. It's too small, and if it wasn't in patchnotes no one would even know.

Believe what you want. I'm not saying it's a huge discernible difference, but it's there. I can't exactly convince you otherwise, so it doesn't particularly matter.

What if some guns were buffed/nerfed but the changes weren't posted

The Jaguar is easily the best TR Carbine and here's why:

.75 ADS - It's a big deal and adds a lot of survivability to a mobile playstyle which LA tends to facilitate or even require to be reasonably successful at many fights.

143dmg/750 RoF - While high RoF is better for close ranges, the 750 RoF guns are at a nice place where they are still good TTK without suffering an extra tier of damage drop off to hurt them at a bit longer distance.

0/0 Recoil angle - Easy, straight up vertical recoil so all you need to worry about is burst firing/pulling down - no crazy variable right or left pull. This can make it feel more accurate than some guns with less horizontal recoil - namely the TRAC-5(TRAC-5 is still more accurate if handled well, but it loses a lot for lower horizontal recoil). Pre-emptively I will say that everyone who thinks a right or left pull is superior and less random is wrong, they still have horizontal right/left jitter like any other they are just harder to compensate for because the gun kicks diagonally rather than straight up.

Soft Point access - Soft point is clearly the best ammo for probably 90% of guns, and obviously any close-mid range gun benefits the most from it.

Small hip-fire CoF - This really solidifies its versatility and run-and-gun playstyle over the TRAC-5, and somewhat makes up for the lower RoF of the Jag vs. 800-845 RoF weapons. Being able to comfortably hip-fire up to a decent range when necessary is great and can make you harder to hit plus shave time off TTK when you can hip-fire at the head or even just hip-fire to save the time it takes to ADS.

I think anyone who takes the Lynx over the Jag is nuts. Small TTK advantage for less damage per mag, no .75 ADS, and the awful bloom/recoil per damage dealt ration is not a good trade-off.

TRAC-5 has a small redeeming quality in superior accuracy/velocity at mid ranges but it loses so much for it - no small hip-fire CoF, no soft point, no .75 ADS, and annoying right pull are rarely worth .~033 lower overall horizontal recoil and 50 velocity.

And I think by now many forumers know my opinion on TR's mid-long range carbines(suckitude).
