Why is Amerish so unpopular?

    For me its because I can't drive anywhere but on a road littered with more mines than Edward James Olmos' face has pock marks.

    As VS I barely go there because our warpgate is the worst one in the game.

    More so than that, TR's gate is just obnoxiously good.

    Because its grey, boring, repetitive and depressive looking. Very bad design in my opinion.

    I don't think it's so much the TR have any land benefit.
    It depends on the server.

    In Briggs most Vanu are in Esamir and most organized Vanu outfits are in Indar fighting a grid locked battle for the most part.
    All factions seem to have a fair chance at taking Amerish regardless of land advantages.

    NC owns Amerish at all times. most of the time the population is 10% Vs and TR and 90% NC

    TR having their techplant right next to their warpgate is a pretty big bonus, especially when you consider than for VS/NC the tech plants are the closest thing for the TR to attack.

    Basically TR never lose their tech for long, and NC/VS always lose their techs first. This is just crappy.

    For me, it's the view distance/fog. Not quite sure what about them exactly, but it just feels wrong when looking around.
    Could use more water too, but obviously the engine doesn't agree with that idea yet.

    All you have to do is drive a vehicle, any vehicle really, there and you'll know why no one wants to play there.

    It's aerial dogfighting and gal drops or a serious PITHA.

    No. At least on Esamir you have a speciality of only one Tech Plant. And Esamir just looks good with snow, ice and those strange purple spikes in it. Amerish layout is like Indar but flat, less variation in vegetation and overall just greyish-green everywhere and random grey mountains over there. It is the worst map design I've ever seen in any game, Im sad to say.

    I originally thought "Difficult to get anywhere in land vehicles!? Does this mean I won't get spawncamped by every tank in the game!?"

    The answer was twofold. "You will get spawncamped by tanks, only they will be flying. You think that's great? Here, have even more difficulty getting anywhere as infantry than you did when tanks were everywhere!"

    Edit: Plus the fact that there are still plenty of places that tanks are still able to just stroll right in. It seems- to me, at least- there isn't much difference in the volumes of tanks in bases between Indar/Esamir and Amerish.

    Psh, the prowler is barely a step up from the lightning. We'd never get anywhere without the second tank.

    Amerish is a mud hole. Greenish-gray. Lots of dirt actually. Fantastic outposts though, minus all the ridges just making it way too easy for aircraft to dip down out of LoS of AA. Blegh. As if they didn't have enough problems.

    Esamir though... for a flat sheet of ice it sees a surprising amount of unit variety when two empires do actually feel like squabbling over it. The only thing I like about Indar is the biome diversity. What I hate most is that every capturable point is practically 200m apart from each other. Way too many hexes.

    It is visually very boring. Indar is fun because the scenery changes as you progress/regress and each facility has unique terrain. The fights on Amerish all look essentially identical, the facilities have almost no character (except splitpeak!). And the facilities that were supposed to be the new crown are never fought over because 1) they offer almost no strategic advantage and 2) can't be reached by the tank zerg.

    Also, it's terrain makes it air heaven and infantry/tank hell. What is slightly ironic, however, is that it was designed around a lot of the feedback we gave during beta (which honestly makes me think they have started to ignore us because it "failed"). The bases designs are much better than Indar's, IMO, but they are just a ***** to get to by ground. But I think the main reason is the lack of visual diversity.

    people hate amerish because they cannot zerg rush everything in a ton of tanks. The deep canyons also makes it hard for esf to dive bomb easily without crashing so they cant always hide that easily from burster maxes. The bases are also easier to defend so people cant just steam roll through everything for the extra points. The rumor mill is also abuzz with talk about there are actually hills in amerish not even magriders can climb. So yea, a map that forces magriders to be inline with the other faction's tanks is obviously dumb and none of them would ever play on that map.

    I hate the terrain there. Too many freaking mountains. I don't know the map well so I end up driving the wrong way and have to spend 10 minutes going a mile out of my way to get around them.
