Why does the Medic get assault rifles, rather than the engineer or another class?

I entered tech test july 19th, I heard no mention whatsoever of medics ever having anything other than assault rifles. Unless you're talking about alpha/prealpha before assault rifles were even made... in which case I cant really see any point to this observation. I'm fairly certain they stated in a class information release, long before tech test began, that the medic was designed around having a strong unique weapon platform.

The discussion was to give HA's the accurate and quick assault rifles and give the medics heavy, cumbersome, and inaccurate support weapons. Which never ended up happening.

Heavy's get AR, and Medics get LMGs?

    Because Combat Medic.
    Combat. Medic.
    Combat. Medic.
    Combat. Then Medic.

because wouldn't you prefer the class that is going to save your behind to have the best weapon class in the game, engis get to hide behind max's, tanks and turrets, medics are on the front line keeping the push alive.

Combat Medic is just a term given to medical personnel in the Army who serve alongside a combat arms unit, as opposed to a cushy job in the hospital / field care. Combat Medics in reality are non-combatant personnel who are supposed to only carry a sidearm for personal defense. This is just in case you wanted to know :p

Sorry I should have elaborated :p. I said supposed to lol - I meant according to the Geneva Conventions. The medic in my infantry platoon carried an M-4 as well, lol - but mostly because we didn't have enough M9's to spare. Usually medics are in a designated casualty collection point along w/ the platoon sargeant and a fire team or even a full squad for security, so they are intended to rarely, if ever, take contact. The reality is of course a bit different =). Our medical stryker however, was the only stryker in our company forbidden from mounting heavy weapons like the .50 cal or mk19 grenade launcher.

If medics had carbines they could have the S variant, therefore smoke grenade launchers.
Smoke grenade launchers would make medics even more potent on the battlefield, so in a way it's limiting their potential.

If you ask me, Assault Rifles should have been available to both HAs, Engies and CM.

Assault Rifles should be common pool, not exclusive xD

Hm...Interesting. Was it because of the lack of proper training or just "because"?

I think it has more to do w/ Geneva Conventions codes. Any vehicle marked with a red cross is a designated medical vehicle, and supposedly you're not allowed to shoot at them. My guess is that is why medical vehicles don't have heavy weapons - they're technically non-combatants.

Medics get AR's as an incentive to play the healer. Engineers get battle rifles and AV capability, HA's get LMG's and AV capability.
  14. Thovargh

Scratch that, they got smoke, my mistake
  15. tproter

    This is why.

Same goes for Engineers. They're really combat engineers.

I wouldn't want to see a HA running around with HV45 (I own this gun on my medic and with it's 800 RPM and very high precision it's a beast, even at medium ranges). On an Engineer though I could live with it.

I guess its because Combat Medic
