Why do weapons cost so many cert points?

whether theyre better or not depends on ones preference..

I still use the Orion as my main gun, when I face a TR using a TMG-50,is he a lock for the win?

    nope.

We got off very lucky, all things considered. This game is not nearly the facegrind that is considered the norm in MMOs.

That said, not nearly all of the 1000 cert options actually give the bang for your buck, so to speak. Many of them blatantly underperform when compared to their 100-250-500 cert companions. This should be looked at, IMHO.

Well, it's called "pay for convenience". Most weapons are just as effective as the others, but in their own way. To find a weapon you like they have a handy "try now" option you can use, so you are actually able to try any weapon for a full 30 minutes before you chose to buy or not! There are also several weapons available for bellow 1000 certs, some as low as 250 and even 100 certs. If you just want a new weapon, why not go for one of those. If your hunting for a very specific weapon there isn't much anyone can do. Eventually it is likely to drop in price, but there is no telling how long that may be.

What you are paying for is convenience. You pay for the convenience of faster cert gains and quicker access to weapons and equipment. Although you do become far more versatile than a free-to-player very quickly, you HAVE to remember that this game could only be around if people had something to pay for. Luckily the game does NOT allow you to buy power, only to specialize or fan out more quickly. It is a very common and sensible way of doing it in my opinion.

Should there be more low-priced weapons? Yes. There will be too, you'll just have to give it some time. Slowly but surely weapons are being reduced in price as they grow older, and like I said: you can always try out the cheaper weapons and compare them to the expensive. They are just as effective, but in their particular way.

Part of free to play is encouraging people to pay for things to get them quicker. It's the only reason they work/survive as they do. Somebody goes "Oh well it's free to play.." but then in a month's time they may drop 60 bucks on it and then some more later and before you know it they've already spent more than a year's usual subscription and these are players that may have payed for sub to begin with. Where as those who never buy or subscribe may not have been players to begin with because it wasn't free to play and they end up getting more players and a decent amount of income off it. I couldn't say exactly how well it works but you get the idea. Success may vary type of deal but it works.
  5. Rickenbacker

It's not borderline anything, it's just good business sense. If they were cheaper, everyone would just save up certs. As it is, I'd rather pay $7 for the guns I really want and save my certs for upgrades.
  6. MrLee.NO

And if you've been smart and stocked up on SC during 2/1 or 3/1 deals, it's even cheaper.
IF you've got the patience to wait for them to go on sale, it's even cheaper than that.
  7. whitupiggu

I've killed HAs using em6s with my repeater. Does this mean the repeater is as good as the em6? No.
  8. Gunivar

The problem is that the game only rewards mindless killing, and unless you are skilled, that reward is small.
Everyone gets focused on certs. Its called Skinner Box.
Do we want a tactical, team based game or a farming game?
  9. Brickwalker

thanks for proving my point that this game IS NOT pay2win.
  10. whitupiggu

Yup sneaking up on a HA with a pistol proves the game isn't p2w because they didn't see me until it was too late. Do you even think before you post? Even people will better guns can be outplayed. The 1 time in 100 the HA doesn't turn around and shoot you in the face proves nothing.
  11. Brickwalker

why didnt you mention that you snuck up on him then? do you think before you post?

were not talking about sneaking up on people here. Were talking a one on one fight where both sides SEE each other.Where its a fact that a starter weapon can defeat a 1000 cert weapon. This isnt some flash in the pan,it happens all the time.

which makes this game NOT Pay 2 Win.
  12. AgentStark427

TRAC 5 vs Jaguar. Usually, the Jaguar wins.

Higher RoF, higher DPS, and lower recoil. Sounds like my kinda gun.

Why make it so hard to get?
  13. whitupiggu

Uh.. How else would I kill someone with a LMG using a pistol? Take a jaguar and pit it against someone with a mercenary and the jag will win 9 times out of 10. The jag has a higher rate of fire, is crazy accurate, has less recoil, and you move at 75% of normal speed while using ADS instead of 50%.

The jag is more an upgrade to the AMC than the TRAC 5. The lynx is more like the TRAC 5 but better.
  14. Brickwalker

9 out of 10 times huh? where do you get this data?

Ive won plenty of battles with the starter Carbines as well.Im thinking im not the only one either.

Almost every starting weapon holds their own in this game.
  15. Naceo

The only starter gun I have a problem with is the NC LMG. That thing is complete rubbish. Thankfully the GD-22s is only 100 certs and that thing is a friggn buzz-saw in comparison.
  16. whitupiggu

I trialed the jag and the only times I died were when there were at least 2 people shooting at me or I did something stupid. Against infantry at least. Not much you can do against a tank with jag.

If you'd actually trialed the jag, gd7f, or vx6-7 there would be no way you could say they are not upgrades with a straight face.

    Jag
    Damage - 143-112
    Reload - 2.8-3.85
    ADS movement: - .75x
    Velocity - 440
    RPM - 750
    First shot recoil - 2x
    +advanced laser sight
    +soft point ammo
Only vertical recoil as well as better hip fire accuracy

    TRAC-5
    Damage - 143-112
    Reload - 2.7-3.7
    ADS movement - .5x
    velocity - 490
    RPM - 750
    First shot recoil - 2.35x
    +2x reflex sight
    Pulls to the right

    It's an obvious upgrade.

The Jag and TRAC 5 have exactly the same RoF and DPS. They have the same recoil, but the Jag has a lower first shot multiplier and has balanced horizontal recoil instead of directional recoil. Both guns are about the same IMO, the Jag just handles a little bit better for exponentially more cost. If I could choose between the TRAC 5 or Jag, I don't see any reason why someone wouldn't pick the Jag.

EDIT: I personally think the Jaguar shouldn't have ever been introduced. The only downsides compared to the TRAC 5 that I see are the slightly slower bullet velocity and reload speed. The equal horizontal recoil might irk some, but might feel comfy to others. I personally see that as a downside. This weapon could be argued as P2W, but very barely. Very, very, barely.
  18. whitupiggu

That 25% faster movement speed when using ADS makes a big difference.

    Edit
Also why would having no horizontal recoil irk some? With horizontal recoil shots sometimes go straight up or they might cause it to move diagonally to the right. This makes recoil much harder to compensate for.
  19. Pinchy

It's set up to encourage a pay to win outcome.

Buying any kind of power/anything other than cosmetic items like an anti everything gun(rocket pods) that fill an otherwise empty slot is pay to win, doesn't matter if a tedious grind can get you the same stuff..
  20. Brickwalker

Im not saying there are not any upgrades,Im saying just because you have an 'upgrade' doesnt make you a lock for the win.
