Why do people hate the vanguard so much?

The magrider can strafe which means it's smallest profile and thickest armor is always facing the enemy. Vanguard is big and has to face it's thinner side armor to the enemy in order to avoid projectiles. :L
  2. Gavyne

I actually think a Prowler column beats a Vanguard column. Seen it happen too many times, on both sides since I play NC on Helios, and TR on Connery. For some reasons a Vanguard zerg just isn't as scary as a Prowler zerg to me.
  3. Soundmonitor

This is the case for all MBT's, infantry rule the landscape unless you zerg MBT's with infantry support.

The part about Vanguard being the biggest and slowest tank, and that it's worst against infantry still applies to Vanguard only, not all MBT's. It doesn't help.
  5. DanMan3395

I only hate it for about a minute or so after it 2 shots my prowler. Then I move on with my life. Forum whining is the battleground of the child and the moron.
  6. Gisgo

I disagree :p but doesnt matter.
Agility doesnt make a difference in a column, you cant really maneuver (spelling?) in the middle of a zerg and being tougher because of the shield and front armor makes the difference.
On the other hand, vangs are slow and they need to cover each other and while playing solo they cant really retreat like a magrider could.
By solo i dont mean 1vs1 with another tank, i mean running around without support.
  7. DanMan3395

FALSE. Prowler post nerf is just as bad or worse.
  8. Gavyne

Is prowler the biggest tank size wise? No, in fact it's the smallest tank out of the 3 MBT's, allowing you to hide better.

Is prowler the slowest tank compared to vanguard? No.

Is prowler worse than vanguard at killing infantry? No, not even close, Prowler is still the better counter against infantry due to it having 2 shots.

Care to explain what's false to what I posted? What Vanguard is good at, and it has been mentioned in the thread already, is 1 vs 1 against another MBT.

May be to do with the fact that a vanguard is a really good durable long range tank which encourages a turtle defense mentality. TR kind of get two types of tanks, the "in your face vulcan check my 70kph speed dakadaka tank" and the "behind the tree 1000 meters away anchored with AP rounds tank) both types have the lifespan of an asthmatic hamster but you can do some serious shock damage with both on an unaware armoured column.
  10. DanMan3395

Prowler HAS to CENTER hit 2 times to kill 1 infantry. HUGE rear panel hit box makes it a driving death machine. Magrider mobility is radically more usefull than the 5 kph speed advantage prow has. What planet are you where people are "hiding" tanks? if you stop moving for 1 second in a prowler the little blue rockets destroy you without warning. This is reality.

It may be harder, but ultimately if you're good it's the best. We call this a "high skill-gap." Like most things NC, it's hard to use, but the best when you use it right. If you have a really good gunner with an enforcer/halberg secondary, infantry shouldn't be a problem. I often pull a vanguard with no support and proceed to-forgive my jargon- roflstomp everything, assuming the gunner is good. I've rolled up on sunderers with at least 15 guys actively defending, and just completely demolished everything. You can roll in with shield and take the sundy down before anyone can even damage you, then start backpeddling while you **** the inevitable horde of engineers, lights, and heavies, who disregard their safety in favor of a head-on charge after losing their sundy. I've gone 2, 3, even 4 vs 1 and EASILY come out on top with smart shield usage. Granted you've legitimately got to hit every shot, and if you miss even once it could all be over, but the potential is there.
  12. CHDT65

Vanguard properly used is an amazing tank.
And also very important, it's the prettiest one :)
  13. WUNDER8AR

Nope. For one Mags have the largest top profile afaik. And secondly I shoot Magriders in the rear on a regular basis. The fact that the gun is not mounted on a turret makes it highly vulnerable in many sitations.
  14. Gavyne

This is embarrassing, I hate to state the obvious, but when I say "hide", I mean the tactic that tank drivers do by moving forward, take a shot, then moving back behind cover while the gun reloads. Being a smaller tank you can do that easier than a big *** Vanguard that's so long bodied that a Vanguard can't back into cover fast enough.

This is not my picture but I've seen it posted before, it shows you how big and long Vanguard is.

I wouldn't actually say pro. I would say more hardcore, as in they have invested a lot more time and certs into their toy to make it a more viable weapon. This basically comes from the fact that Magriders where massive general farming tools to begin with, out performing both other faction MBT by almost double. Then the Prowler became a massive infantry farming tools, since it was no longer easy fodder to Magriders. Vanguard was never OP at any point for people to actually invest the time and effort. But on the flip side, I have no doubt that NC Maxes are the most heavily certed Max units of any faction.
  16. Botji

I have to agree that NC just dont know how to use their tank or just dont like to use it for some reason. Vanguards are kinda rare but a Vanguard with shield is like... a myth.

Personally I like the Vanguard, almost more than my Magrider.

Just wanted to add that I have never died in the Vanguard in a "fair" fight. Usually its a crappy ESF with nothing better to do than grope my tank or me being stupid running into much larger groups of enemies than I should so imo there is nothing wrong with the tank.
  17. Antich

While the extra armor and a shield are good for the vanguard against other tanks in small engagements(taking full advantage from it by extending survivability by a lot) in tank column warfare(against prowlers because mags don´t really get to be used in tank column cause of their mobility being the asset they have and not really being able to dodge with 10 other tanks around) the shield won´t matter cause of multiple dmg sources, it won´t really allow you to survive longer by a useful margin. The armor bonus will be negated and surpassed by the prowler extra dmg, reload and accuracy. That is what makes vanguard worse in tank columns(as well as the size and acceleration that create traffic problems but that is less of an issue and is smth the prowlers have to deal with also in smaller quantities).

I think there are as many TR certed MAXes as there are NC if not even more. And even if they aren´t the number is still small for MAX users and quite large for armor users. What i am certain is that the VS have the least amount of certed MAXes.
  18. DanMan3395

Prowlers used to do that I suppose before GU5. Such tactics don't really work anymore though. The blue'ies find my booty hole and penetrate it unless I am in a constant state of forward or reverse motion.
  19. Soundmonitor

bleh MBT's in general with all these counters (mana turrets, c4, AT mines, RPG's, ESF's, Base Turrets) make them all obsolete. Been awhile since I rolled in my MBT because it's only good in Zerg mode when you are going against a smaller squad, the same thing goes for rolling out with a Lib. MBT's are only situational now and really who cares which MBT preforms better than the other when you can only take it out when you are zerging.

way to take it out of context and not facing the problem.
