Why Do I Suck?

So for the anniversary of 230 hours of playtime, I am making a thread.
Why, after 230 hours of playing, do I suck so much?
I have a KDR of 0.67, no auraxiumed weapons, and only BR45.
    My SPM is only 157.
As you can see on my killboard (https://www.planetside2.com/players/#!/5428153774084910321/killboard), I die far more often than I kill. Can anyone tell me why?

    Specialize.

Very difficult to tell based on just a killboard. I'd either have to play with you, or see an uncut gameplay video/stream.

Do you have a decent computer?
Do you have loudouts specialized for your desired role/loudouts being specialized?
Do you know how to use cover well and do you understand lag compensation?
    Do you have headphones?
Do you know how to compensate for recoil?
Do you know how to pick fights?
Do you play a support role?

    Just a few Q's.

As others indicate, there are many potential reasons, it is hard to tell without sitting over your proverbial shoulder. I would agree that an unedited example video could help spot problems and sort things out into various categories:
    1. General reaction time / reflexes
    2. Aim
    3. Positioning / tactical game
    4. Loadout / role selection
    etc

Are you good at other FPS games? Knowing that gives us some insight.

I have no screen recorder, and Planetside 2's integrateted recorder does not work.

The average K/D for players is ~0.7 so really you don't suck, you play as well as most people in the game.

For starters.... can you explain this?

    I only have one question....

    Is this your first FPS?

High KDR is a direct reflection on a player's abilities: situational awareness, reflexes, tactics knowledge, etc....

Equipment plays a part, but SKILL is the single largest determining factor imho.

I really don't know what to tell you it took me until BR 35 to get good.

I really need to see how you play but I can give you some tips

    1.Awareness - you need to have awareness. 1.Map 2.roof/trees 3. surroundings
    2. Positioning - you need to know how to position yourself where you won't die and can kill
3.Know when to change class: Sometimes you will need to pull out engineer/max/infiltrator for situations that you know a class won't do well in.
4.Sound - Bullets, voices, and infiltrator cloaks you must know the difference between all 3 factions.

This is how I play most players just click Heavy assault and nothing else.

I was in VR. No idea why it's recorded.

    What's with all the suicides?

You might have a bad kdr if you keep trying to solo a group of enemies.

Play smart and engage only when you're sure you can win.

I could also suggest using an AMS Sunderer whenever possible, your spm will rise when allies are spawning there every few seconds.

Also don't use serpent, it is a very bad starter weapon. Stick with Pulsar C, solstice VE3 or if you really want some like serpent - go with VX6-7

Another thing to keep in mind is that your stats are a cumulative score of all your time in PS2. I was attrocious in the beginning, (Not to say I'm great now) this was my first FPS game since 007 Goldneye for the Nintendo 64. I got trounced on what can only be described as a regular basis, it was like my specialty :p. As I started to improve a bit I spent a lot of time leading platoons for the outfit I was in, so I spent a lot of time looking at my map as opposed to killing, and as we all know if you look at your map as a squad or platoon leader it's a rule that you get killed, likely by a headshot from a sniper. These things caused me to have very poor K/D scores (It still isn't very good, I know, but it's improving and that's what I'm paying attention to) and SPM. SPM is also affected by boosts and subscriptions so that can be skewed a bit as well.

So, just remember, that all that time you were learning this game, the classes, and that shooting at that ESF coming at you was simply a free kill for the pilot, is included in your overall score. I would say so long as you see better K/D's and SPM's as you play each session you're heading in the right direction. You're also doing the right thing by asking here, if you can get a program to record (Fraps, shadowplay if you have an NVidia card) I would do that as well and post it so these guys who are better than me can help you out. :)

Good luck on improving your play man.

Others have pointed you in the right direction - hard to tell without seeing you play.

This helped me a great deal at the start - http://bit.ly/1pV22kO. If you're mouse sensitivity is off you are doomed.

Make sure you're running around 40 - 60 fps, any slower and you'll ragequit.

Then watch Wrel - http://bit.ly/1pV2a3J and see what he's up to. Find some other vids and watch their style.

This is not the game for storming the castle tactics. I'm only getting comfortable with two or three classes now at BR 41 - stay away from Light Assault until you get better. Personally, I think LA is one of the harder classes to play at the start. Heavy is good, get a good scope and stick with a group. Don't go point.

Take a look at these as well - http://imgur.com/a/kjgdO#0 - I think the idea of battle buddies, especially at the start, is very important. You won't get the kills, but you'll learn, and then you'll get the kills.

Try strafing, it does wonders in 1v1 firefights. I recently came back to PS2 and I was out of practice for a bit and forgot to strafe. Mostly I was sitting still or crouching in a firefight and getting headshot continually as a result. Thought my new helmet had a bigger hit box or something (which would be very sloppy if it was the case). I decided I needed to rethink my approach to infantry combat. I started moving while shooting and I have been doing drastically better, except against heavies with max nanoweave :(

    >Do you have a decent computer?
    Kind of.
-> Kind of as in 15-30 FPS or 30-40 or 40-60 Consistently on at least MEDIUM or higher?
    >Do you have loudouts specialized for your desired role/loudouts being specialized?
    Yes.
    -> List the equipment please.
    >Do you know how to use cover well and do you understand lag compensation?
    Yes.
    ->Are you sure?
    >Do you have headphones?
    No.
->Get some with a form of surround sound or similar. It really helps in battle. Do you have sound?
    >Do you know how to compensate for recoil?
    Yes.
->Do you know which guns have what recoil?
    >Do you know how to pick fights?
Yes. If you're getting farmed leave.
->That's not the only factor to picking fights. Make sure YOU can be advantageous, check for what equipment the opposition has, and determine if it's worth it or not to approach.
    >Do you play a support role?
    Medic.
->Don't fight people, stay in clusters and help heal/revive. Your gun is your shield or defense.

A reply is noted by ->.

Its really hard to pin down exacly why, but know that people die alot in this game and doesnt always get good k/d. Not that it matter in this anyway. But I see that you have played mostly as an engineer and they are not on the field just to get you some kills, they are support.

But anyway if you want advice its like others have said. Pick your fights, dont stay closest to the enemy, have awareness of your surrounding. Do not sprint to the frontline, go around. And try to specialize if you can. I know for a fact that im really worthless when it comes to flying (except getting from A to B) so I dont do that, but I tend to be really good with my boots on the ground (If I dont rush things) and are most comfortable on the ground outside a vehicle

one thing I didn't realize for a long time, the separate mouse sensitivities, the main one and the aimed one.
    check that.
