I'm a long-time Planetside 2 player, but when I try to play today the only place I can deploy to is the VR training map. The only continent available is Indar (the others have been locked all day), but when I try to deploy to Indar it's telling me I'm in a 16 minute queue (13 minute wait for members). I'm not going to wait a quarter hour just to join a game. Is Planetside broken? Or is this the new way of things?
Thanks for the response. I'm not sure what the % is. Sorta don't care. I just want to get onto a continent and play. I used to play PS2 a lot a few years ago (I was a member for 2 years), but now they've got this continent locking business, which is really annoying. And today all I get is the VR map. This game used to be simple recreation, but now it seems (to me at least) to have become overly-complicated and restrictive. Just give me Esamir, please (and no, I don't want to change factions).
Well, if your side really does have 40% or so, then it's to prevent an even greater pop difference. Either way, eventually you'll likely make it in. Mind you, if it is having that much time, you likely overpopulated the hell out of that map.
Hmmm. Well, I'm not sure how that map population stuff works. I can't tell if there are Vanu on the locked maps or not. Again, this seems weird to lock out a player like this.
If the map is actually locked down, you can't even select a place to deploy. And the population has a limiter, so one side can not be equal or greater than the two other side's population. This helps reduce the ease of one side dominating by sheer numbers. Which allows easier & larger zergs, if there wasn't such a limiter.
Thanks again for the info, LordKrelas. I'm just annoyed--and grouchy--because at this moment I have some free time to play and the game seems to be giving me a hard time. I'll try again later.
I find it hard to feel sorry for you, because you're part of one of the biggest problems killing this game.
Really? Players sticking with factions is hurting the game? I've spent a lot of time (and $$$) acquiring weapons and upgrades as Vanu so I'm not much in the mood for starting over. I did recently try out as a member of the New Conglomerate, and in that case the game made me run through a tutorial before I could get on the battlefield, and then it was weird playing because my heart was still with Vanu.
When it's 3:1 odds, letting those odds become further apart, just makes it hell to play anything but that side. So usually when it's overpop on one side, it's counterproductive to further increase the population disparity as it kills the game for everyone else. That is what is hurting the game. Not loyality; Overpopulation on one side.
It's a quick band aid fix to population imba. I hate the fact vanu is dominating in numbers about 80% the time, but I do sympathize with you. It's not your fault. I'd try playing on other servers/factions if I was put in that situation tbh
I didn't realize Vanu was dominating. I thought all those locked continents were because the Vanu were doing poorly.
It depends on the server and time of day. There's a large percentage of players of this game who jump on VS or TR depending on which one is winning, then that faction has close to 50% of the entire server's population for a solid 8 hours. Next time you log on it might be TR. A lot of people have had enough and left the game, so your frustration is not unique. I gave this game a break, logged on to try the new patch and hopefully spend some money, but nope, these population unbalances and the mentality of this playerbase that almost encourage nothing but greatly unbalanced fights kill it for me.
