I thought it caused by decoy flares , so i waited over 5 seconds,But i still can't lock it. I can sure it's not out of range. Did my missiles have any quality problem?
I've had my AA rocket launcher fail to establish a lock a handful of times since the update on targets I was certain were easily in range and hadn't popped flares anytime soon. I just sort of wrote it off at the time thinking maybe I missed something, but perhaps it was a bug. So I guess it's not just A2A lock-ons. I don't think I've ever seen a game break as many things tangentially in updates as PS2 does. Plenty of games break things that are related to whatever was added or changed, but PS2 is a game where they could put out an update that claims to tweak a couple weapons, add a new mechanic, and adjust some camos; and woops, all the trees in the game are now mounted upside down. Because of course they are.
Yeah its super glitchy getting a lockon. It's like the aircraft covers the portion you can lock on to - at certain angles.
I've found that you have to keep the actual cross hair directly on target, and other times a ESF will just bob a little and locking is gone even though the cross hair is still on them. Seems to be no rhyme or reason on how to successfully get a lock. Earlier there was probably 40-50 ESF's/Libs flying around and 10+ HA's all looking up into the sky trying to get locks. Only way they could take anything down was at very close range and the Air pilots knew it. Never seen so much air craft in PS2. Although my aim with a Lancer seems to be getting better on Aircraft.
