I believe the forum posters are inflating the issue thru exaggeration and limit understanding of game bugs and mechanics.By the mere fact of repeating over and over that cheaters are ruining the game they further the damage the cheaters have done by multiplying the damage a single cheater does in game.

"But i am doing it to inform" & "see heres a video" & "look at this cheat, see what it can do!"
    questions:
    1.) Who are you informing?
SOE? They understand the problem better then most poster here.
The non cheaters? You think that someone out there doesnt know cheaters exsist?

2.) Why do you think the cheater made that video?
You could not pay for better advertisement. Go to the very game you want no cheaters in and then advertise their cheats for them.
Come on..... the logic here is not hard to see.

3.) Whats the point in advertising capabilities of a cheat?
Just like the video aspect of advertising. Now some noob knows he can use this cheat and knows he can control aspects of it to protect himself.

4.) Tell me how you are helping the game by posting endless cheat threads?
What do you think a new player is going to think when he comes here?

5.) Because its in a forum post, does it make it true?
One cheater ( real or imagined) becomes 10 in a forum post.

You think you are helping, when in actuality you are exasperating the problem. If you must post about it, post in the technical forums, where the ones who actually deal with these issues will have a better chance at seeing it.

SOE is doing things to prevent, deter, and punish cheaters. Some cheats, unless you are willingly going to give control of your PC to SOE can not be stopped. Period. End of story.

I have been in fights where there were 3-6 people, generally HA, flying in the air at speeds of afterburning ESFs killing 10-20 people every few seconds. It was pretty ******* horrible, they are out there. This doesn't happen all the time it sort of happens in bursts. I can go a good long time without running into anyone that even looks like they are cheating, then I come across a couple back to back (if it's an aimbot it is generally a VS infiltrator with the semi-auto or a TR with a carv9) and it can be pretty obvious such as being up on a cliff watching them snipe then as soon as your head peaks over just enough to see them they do a 180 and instantly start head shotting you. Most of those cases are pretty damn obvious though, I don't think I have ever ran into someone "subtly" hacking lol. Usually either showboat it and be loud about it so they feel cool, or just blatently doing it giving zero *****.

Well I ranted about it, but in defense of the op (sort of) the time frame I tend to play has quite a bit of them but that's because I play during really late hours, like 2AM to 6AM. During primetime I don't see them quite as often probably because they are worried they will be reported more or caught.
  4. Meiu

Yeah, but some of those usually are accompanied by 10-20 kills every few seconds. If someone is flying around and jutting all buggy like if they aren't cheating you don't see them drop a half of a platoon while taking no damage in a few seconds. There are quite a people who just blame everyone for hacking but most of the cases of hacking are just so damn obvious it can sometimes be hilarious.

Bell-curve cheaters, that's their name. The ones who mask their cheats with common sense and by using less noticeable stuff like no spread and no-recoil. For every blatant cheater flying through the sky and head-shoting everyone there's a dozen more who're sneaking up on your squad via wall-hacks and radar.

The only way to truly stop this is to kill it at the source and that will take a lot more money and time vested than most companies, SOE most definitely included, is willing to ever out-put. Sadly anti-cheat measures or even mechanics built into a competitive game don't seem to be on any dev's priority list; maybe its publisher's just wanting the game to go gold or the devs themselves not caring whether people can play said games six months down the road.

Either way lip-service won't get us anywhere.

Well, being realistic, there really ISN"T any legal recourse for cheating websites and development sites (I assume you are insinuating they should attempt to take down cheating sites? Your post was a bit vague but that is what I interpret as "The Source"). I mean, its a struggle to even be able to take down piracy sites. Do you honestly think a C&D over hosting cheats would ever see the light of day in the court of law? The answer is simply no. The most they could ever punish someone for is selling cheats for their game, and even then it is shaky ground because the cheat itself may be able to be deemed its own IP.

Lawsuits are both unrealistic and slow to process. The BEST method of prevention is always pro-active (that goes for anything in life really...). They simply need better Anti-cheat software that can detect hacks more easily. COnsidering we have next to nothing at ALL now except stat-watching and player reports is just sad, and reactive/prone to human error.

I have seen some blatant cheats - but not many. The blatant ones was a guy who was auto-killing everyone while moving at warp speed. The other one was speeding around - he didnt kill me, but again he was super speed.

I suspect there are a lot of people using aim assistance though. There are some people with incredibly high kill scores - matched by incredibly low death counts. I understand noobs can be quite easily farmed, but the consistency is suspicious imo. I respect good players, but i have suspicions of certain people who score absolutely through the roof, each and every time without fail. Even on a good day, you cant simply guarantee your performance - but some people seemingly can.

I think these people are particularly smart about the way they use their assistance - particularly observing them very early days, and then in later days where there was a drop-off. Anyway.

" For every blatant cheater flying through the sky and head-shoting everyone there's a dozen more who're sneaking up on your squad via wall-hacks and radar."
Where do you get your numbers for these cheaters?
One cheater ( real or imagined) becomes 10 in a forum post.

"SOE most definitely included," & "Sadly anti-cheat measures or even mechanics built into a competitive game don't seem to be on any dev's priority list"
    Do you work for SOE?
Do you have insider information into their developers priorities?
How do you know this information?

Whats the point in brining this up?
How can it help the game?

You think you are helping, when in actuality you are exasperating the problem. If you must post about it, post in the technical forums, where the ones who actually deal with these issues will have a better chance at seeing it.

I did not mean necessarily only legal action, in fact legal action as you stated is rather flimsy when you're dealing with people who may or may not be in bed with crime syndicates (cheats make money, big money, wonder where it goes eh? ) I'm referring more to how the cheat enters the game's eco-system. If the dev's of said game are diligent and have properly prepared or are even generally responding to a string of new cheats they can analyze and cut off the source. Is it this code or that line? Maybe this method? Alright now axe it or modify it so its un-usable for that purpose.

Yes they'll find new ways to implant cheats just as devs and their companies SHOULD be equally working to stamp out said exploits in code or process'.

But that's all just fantasy at best tbh.
  10. smokemaker

" just as devs and their companies SHOULD be equally working to stamp out said exploits"
How do you know they are not doing just this?
  11. Badname2059

Ah, that makes much more sense then. Yes, they really need a better cheat detection system. Something along the lines of VAC would be great imo. Its updated often, with new cheats as they are discovered, while also checking for more general and easy to detect stuff. Right now we hardly have any protection, and are at the whim of /reports and cheesable statistics...

Its well documented by now really. The game has no real anti-cheat system. the one in place only really detects cheats off player statistics, which has lead to false bans and means nothing to hackers who use their tools wisely. Past that, there are only player reports.
  12. smokemaker

"Its well documented by now really."
    Source?
If its not from a developer or SOE then can it be believed?
Surely your source is not the whine threads here... is it?
  13. Adaptus

You do realize that I'm referring to the industry as a whole yes? On the whole, its common practice these days to release a game asap for whichever season/financial block with a few patches and let it rot on its merry way. Even years ago, most devs just did not have the money/time/effort to combat cheaters at any effective level instead opting to dump the work onto punkbuster or some other useless form of anti-cheat measure.

Its a long-standing industry issue that won't be going away anytime soon because the bean-counters don't care so much for repeat customers but for initial sales to cover expenses and into profits. Even the whole F2P/freemium model is quite new in the western world.
  14. Badname2059

Its all over hacking websites, there was a big stink over it shortly after the game launched. Do you want me to pm you a link? I obviously can't do it here in the forums.... If you want the skinny, a popular aimbot maker was banned repeatedly while being harassed by higby himself via twitter. There were threads from the aimbotter about the lack of cheat detection and how easy it was to circumvent bans...
  15. k3nw

not at all, but funny assumption. lately these cries for hacks are getting ridiculous, that is the explanation for the change of heart. seems as tho 1/5 posts are referencing hacks of some sort. while ill concede, hacks are ingame, people cry about it way too much.
  16. k3nw

    Well said.
  17. XphaedX

come play on helios. the hackers are quite chatty, and openly admit they are doing it in chat. they like the attention.
  18. Smegburt

Congrats. What does that have to do with hacking?

I've logged about 80 hours or so in game and I've never seen anything to make me suspect hacking. I must be lucky.
  19. smokemaker

Nope you did just fine. So your information is coming from the hackers. The ones making money off of their hacks.
"Psst dont worry about getting caught.... they aint doing any thing to stop us.... lol 15.00 bucks thats all and you will be god on the field."

    Good source.... not really
Ultimately, you have no clue as to what the developers priorities are.
You have no clue as to what level of attention SOE is giving to this problem.

1.) Can all cheaters be stopped?
2.) Are there a lot of cheats out there?
3.) Why have many people never even seen one here?
4.) Do you think forum posters exaggerate when posting about the amount of cheats?
5.) If its in a forum post does it make it true?

And ultimately : How does this thread or any other thread regarding cheats help the game?
  20. Badname2059

No it doesn't. It comes from a free hacking development site. Want to talk out your *** some more? I'll send you that PM, and you tell me what you see buddy.

It gives developers feedback on a problem. That being that the cheat detection needs to be improved. I'll concede the problem isn't as bad as most make it out to be. BUT it is a problem. The only really useless thing in this forum is you and your endless sharade of trying to derail the discussion.
