So where should a Cm position himself? right in with the first assault to patch up early deaths and use his AOE heal or in the second wave. again to patch up the dead ? Whats your style? I prefer to be in with the first wave. I feel it keeps the assault going but I have noticed that if theres healing available quite a few of the mildly injured will come back from the frontline for heals rather than dying for the glory of the TR/VS and then getting ressed.
Each situation is different and it should be handled on a case-by-case basis. But I would say a little behind the lines and cover so that you can resurrect people without exposing yourself too much. You don't want to be on the very front lines because you'll be far too exposed against heavy assaults, armor, and other things you're not well-equipped to deal with. I would say check your mini-map. Stick with a group of blue dots. Those are the guys who you're trying to keep alive and they are also the guys who will keep you alive. Being too far in the front is a bad thing because smart players will always try to pick off the medics first. Being too far behind the front is a bad thing because you won't be very effective with either your medical applicator or your rifle. Try to be right behind the front lines and surrounded by blue.
Where (s)he is needed Generally though I tend to keep to the front when assaulting an enemy position, and in the back and in cover when defending a base.
I stick to the front and kill as much as I heal. *COMBAT* medic.. Also you don't Rez someone unless your sure its safe, so often that means taking out a few VS so they don't kill your team mate with their automatic compact sniper rifles (read carbines)
I view Combat Medic as essentially "Medium Assault." Shoot people, rezz people, heal people. It's all good.
You do realize that isnt why you have a gun, right? combat medics are EMT's that are ok with being sprayed with bullets. That said i usually go in first because i've already blown my k/d to **** and my balls are made of carbon steel and breaching a room is so much fun when you pop in then gut 3-4 guys before they can return fire.
Go where heals are necessary. If you don't have a medic babysitting a group of people who are within the enemy's range, join them, instead of going where all the medics are competing for revive experience.
I usually take cover right at the front lines if we're pushing or if there's a stalemate situation. Other than that? Capping points like everyone else should be.
To me, it depends on where you're at on the heal gun certs. Levels 1-2, you're primarily riflemen who can heal at times. Stick toward the back, lend some fire support and patch up those guys that retreat to cover. Unless the room has been fully cleared or you're behind cover, don't even bother with a revive. Levels 3-4, you're at a level where you can do some serious healing here, should be in the assault, patching people up from behind the corner while they're under fire. You can revive under slightly worse situations, but still try to make sure the area is safe. Levels 5-6, by the time you get here, revives are where it's at. These guys should be at the front, ready to revive those that die because you can either revive them and heal them or revive them fully in a very, very short time. You can sometimes get a revive in and your patient back behind cover while an enemy reloads at this point. Never forget you have a weapon though. Once you do a revive your next step should be to pull your rifle out and cover your patient until he gets up. (Pro Tip: Switching from your healgun to your pistol takes less time than the switch to your rifle, you can kill or drive into cover enemies with your pistol, which is better than dying while trying to switch to your rifle.) This will get easier the higher you cert your heal gun, once you hit level 6 you will basically be doing healing with your AOE healing aura and only revives with your heal gun, for the most part, so you can have your weapon out to cover your patients longer. Even the best player takes a second or two to get their bearings on a revive and they won't be able to defend themselves during that time. Another thing to remember, there are times when you /should not/ revive someone...a lot of medics have issues with this. If you revive someone and they die in 2 seconds upon getting up...please, please, please, please do not revive anyone else there until the enemy has been dealt with. I try to accept any revive given to me, but even I get to the point of 'Screw it, I'm respawning', because the medic reviving me doesn't care if I live or not. Don't be that medic.
I find the position is easily determined by the healing intensity... If you're healing non-stop, you're a bit too close to the deathline and you should notice that with the next grenade or front movement. If you have a few seconds free now and then to shoot / throw nade, you're probably good. And if you don't heal anyone in a full minute, you're in the wrong spot. I'd say that the closest to the enemy, without seeing the enemy, and about 5/10 meters from friendlies is really the sweet spot: you don't get shot at, you don't get ESF rocket-farmed like your friends, and you get 5/6 revives every time that happens. plus you can risk a bit of front line if you get bored. @JimBob22: I rezz in all conditions and the most I've had to do was three or four. Usually by the second rezz the client understands he should be sprinting in some direction, and everything goes well with the applicator on him. A medic should attempt every single rezz that is safe _for_him_, regardless of the situation for the client, and of course with priority for medic>max>others and safe>unsafe.
Combat medics have some of the best guns, just stick with your squad but be a tiny bit more passive and kill all ze doods.
I tend to find myself in the thick of things. I'm a bit of a loner when it comes to PS2 and I dont usually roll with a squad but instead find myself attatching to random groups of people and supporting them then detaching myself when I feel like I'm needed elsewhere. In reference to actual positioning when in force on force combat, it greatly depends on the situation. When assaulting a base, normally in the middle or rear. So that I have people in front of me that can attack and keep me safe, while still allowing me to return fire and revive and heal. When on defense, I usually find myself in the front, rocking my C4 and rezzing as I go.
