When people THINK they are "in charge"

So this should spark a nice heated discussion...

How many times have you experienced a situation in which you and a handful of friends are doing something in the game, and then all of a sudden some random pubbie comes by and starts barking orders on what you NEED to be doing?

In my scenario, My buddy and I were rolling a vehicle support team with 2 sundies.

Mine was a max proxy repair/max fire suppression/max speed. My buddies was AMS/Prox ammo/ max speed. For weapons we each had a bulldog and walker for a sort of "any scenario" setup. We come to a base assault, and begin repairing/re-arming our magriders and lightnings. Then I hear a random voice, "MOVE THAT F-ING SUNDER OVER HERE NOW!!!" We ignore him, which does nothing obviously. He then proceeds to come to our sundies and tell us that if we do not move closer, he will blow up our sundy. First of all, my buddy and I decided that we are SUPPORTING vehicles, NOT infantry. Secondly, what gives him the right to tell me what to do, then threaten the safety of my vehicle. Long story short, his attempt to sabotage our operation ended in him being ran over a few times, then shot by myself. We were forced to move to another battle before further tensions arose.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Post your scenarios! Thoughts? Suggestions? Gripes? Complaints?

And yes, it has happened to me quite a few times too. When I'm infantry, I play as a medic. There was this guy on the proximity yelling that I (only medic in a ~25 man scenario, mind you) should move to his side. I was with my friends, and we were getting ready to breach a door. We breached the door, secured the building, and captured the point. The guy keeps yelling on the outside, trying to overwatch a useless pass which can be covered by just one infiltrator dart. He then comes to the building, and shoots me in the head, only to be get shot back by my comrades.

After that, I used the beacon, quickly got back into the building, and he was still on the ground, dead. Thankfully, the defenders were cornered into their spawn room by then, so we just had to get rid of some LA/Infiltrators that were trying to flip the point. Seeing that nothing needs to be done, and as he was still on the ground, I revived him, then we killed him. I revived him again, then we killed him again. Had our fun. Someone from our team got weapon locked, so we decided to stop there.

Suggestion? Patience, and a little bit of ignorance. For them? Grow a brain.

People like him need to realise that you can't order pubbies around like that. (Maybe hes new)

Also sounds like that guy should be in an outfit if he feels the need to boss / order people around the battlefield.

I guess it really depends on the situation, but I could see at least 1 instance where a poorly placed deployed sundy can cost your empire a base. (for instance, a sundy deployed 200m from any way up to the jump pads or elevators around the base of the biolab or on the opposite side of the wall on the outside of an amp station as another deployable sundy). If he was just bossing you around and you weren't poorly deployed, though, there's no good justification for his outrage.

I actually witnessed something amazing not long ago. My NC was defending the Palisade and we were forced back to spawn, so I went "UUGH another spawn camp..." But then I heard someone just start saying, firmly and calmly to get behind him and they're gonna push. And I saw half of everyone get behind him (including me) and we charged when he gave the signal.
We all died immediately, but BY GOD we did SOMETHING!

Yeah, I've experienced some of those types of people... But SOE gave us guns to fix those kinds of problems.

I have an amazing story to share too. Yesterday i noticed a light assault, that placed c4 on the ground and waited for me to drive over in my killing frenzy, instead of trying to rambo me. Needless to say, he was the first person in a long long time to get a c4 kill on me.

@OP, Planetside 2 is a videogame. Not a 24/7 championship where you need to "win" all the time.
With that said... if someone else gets all bossy on you and/or interfers in your gameplay in a negative manner... just ignore him. It's just a stranger trying to act/make other people think he is special... but actually, sh/e isn't.
Yes, I'm aware about idiots doing wrong things. But yelling at/killing them will not make em/the situation any better.

In fairness, using Sunderers for anything other than a (well placed) AMS can often be catastrophic for the rest of your team. Most people simply look at the map from time to time to see if there is a Sunderer nearby; if there is, they don't get one. In your case, providing two Sunderers, the chance of any pubbie bringing in a Sunderer is nigh zero, meanwhile you're 'playing your role' and perhaps (I wasn't there) being far more of a hindrance than a help to your team.

I should say by way of a disclaimer, it's rare that a situation like the above happens, but very frequent that people -perceive- it happens. A lot of people keep things very simply in their head -> 'When we assault X base, the Sunderer deploys at Y. Anything else is ruining our chance of a cap.' kind of nonsense. But as said, there's still a small chance he was right ;)

I would say you did the right thing. It happens to me more than I want. I try and ignore them so long as they do not engage me physically. Should they do that I have no problem throwing down the gauntlet and putting a couple of rounds in their face or driving over them and then putting some rounds in their face as you did. Seems righteous to me as you do not have to tolerate morons barking orders at you and then making threats to blow up an in game asset that belongs to you. His tough luck.

Also, if you and your friend are playing as a team then I would look at the best placement for your Sundy. I wasn't there and don't know all the factors you used to select a location. Even if the location is bad it does not in anyway allow anyone to threaten you or your vehicle with harm. Treat it as you would an encounter outside of Planetside in the real world. I do not tolerate fools and idiots in this game that choose to harm me or any asset I have deployed in the theater of operation where I am working.

Others may disagree with this and that's their right. I have no problem with the outcome. Perhaps that player will think twice before acting like an idiot.

Doesnt matter if I was "poorly" deployed or not. Were I deploy MY sunderer is MY prerogative. My friend and myself wanted to SUPPORT VEHICLES, and another player felt that we should do what HE wanted. We did ignore him, but were then threatened by him. Yes we could of let him blow up our vehicle, reported, then grabbed another, but you forget about vehicle timers and resources...

I just posted this for the heck of it and to see what others have done about similar situations.

If you are lower in rank than him then obey.
If you are higher in rank than him, remind him of your ranking superiority.

Seriously, teenagers and their rebellious streaks.
  14. Desann

But my sundy did not have an AMS. You forget that the sunderer is not only a support vehicle, but a vehicle capable of combat as well. SOE merged the old AMS with the leviathan into the now sunderer. I prefer to run mine as a battle bus and not an AMS that sits still all day long. Thank god they patched the new AMS being always on and not a utility. This will help a lot, but I will not sit there and let another player tell me what to do. Suggestions are welcomed, but do not threaten my expensive vehicles with lengthy timers.
  15. K2k4

I just want to put in that I'm not defending how he asked you to move your sunderer, just that he may have had a point. Your sunderer is yours, I get it, but the entire faction's base progress is everybody's business, and if your poor placement of the sunderer was blocking the sunderer placement necessary for your empire to achieve their goals, or routing troops to a remote and entirely pointless location, then his anger may have been rightfully justified.

Of course, it's also equally possible this dude just wanted to get the 2 xp/deploy on his own sunderer. Either way, there are better ways to ask this than shouting over proximity chat.

I hadn't realized that.. No AMS or non-deployed sunderers do not hinder a battle in any way. In fact battle sunderer is a completely valid tactic that is underutilized.

My favorite troll-op was when we all pulled sunderers, got 3 men in each, and had free repairs, ammo, and an endless stream of basilisk rounds coming from 15-20 sunderers driving in a v.. took so long to take us down but daaamn that was fun.

I often politely ask people if they could do something for me eg. kill that MAX over there (I am out of C4), shoot that sniper etc. But I will NEVER ask anyone to abandon a role or a vehicle to come do something. If you are repairing a MAX under fire I am not gonna ask for ammo. If you are trying to repair your sunderer I am not gonna ask for a repair on my Mossie. If someone is doing something that can be perceived as important, than I won't ask them to do something. On the other hand, you should NOT ask for ammo when I am trying to kill a tank or ask me to place darts if I am trying to counter snipe.

Not sure if serious or not...

Rank in this game means nothing, its just shows that you've put in more time (i.e. spent more time in front of your computer) into a game. Just because someone has more experience than you, it does not give them the right to dictate how you play. There are many play styles in PS2, and no one has the right to enforce their own play style onto you.

You say that after everyone saw your video of how you reached br100. pfft

A simple solution would be to add a different icon for an AMS sundy on the map that only friendly units can see. we already have one for repair and ammo.
