Whats the point of heavy assault

I never understand HA's who say they lose face-to-face fights with SMG infiltrators and call for a nerf/buff based on that. If an HA wants an SMG, an HA can equip an SMG. The exact same one the Infiltrators are using. Plus the HA has class-specific weapons that are even better than SMGs at anything but <10m if the HA wants to use them. Plus the HA has 100 more health. Plus the HA has the shield. All of this, plus the HA has utility beyond infantry combat at a single range.

Since, in this face-to-face fight, the infiltrator has less health and no shield, I suppose it must be the SMG that is overpowered. And if you think SMGs are overpowered, use one. HA's have them available. My Orion will laugh at you, but you are free to do so.

Yeah I agree with you. But judging from a lot of responses in this thread it seems there are many people who have no idea how to use a heavy assault.

    Rocket. Launcher.

Actually Sir...I agree with you 100%.

You nailed all of the frustrations that HAs deal with in todays game. While SOE has steadily buffed Infiltrators to a ridiculas level, they have gone the opposite direction with HAs and front line infantry. IMO, its by far the hardest and most unforgiving class to play at this stage of the game. Rocket Launchers that are garbage...headshot detection boxes the size of Texas...Garbage Armors, Nano/Flak...they both suck. Then the HAs Over-Shield is total crap right now.

I dunno man, good luck and hang in there I suppose.

It is bull... that they just removed our head armor. I believe snipers should OSK everyone. I do believe that. What I don't believe is that removing a HA's head protection against everyone, was the RIGHT way to go about that. The precious sniper OSK I tolerate... why every LA needs equal footing in a gun fight with an HA, I do not understand. Because obviously after level noob 1 ... everyone aims for the head... EVERYONE. It's not like HA gets a med tool, or can jump over walls...etc...

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

LMGs are generally inferior to Carbines and Assault rifles except in ammunition pool.

    In general, NS7-PDW > Orion.

In that fraction of a second it takes to ADS, I've got a two or three round head start with an ALS SMG, and I can strafe at 1.00x not 0.75x.

More than often the people killing me are HA with high BR- which leads me to believe that there is a higher skill cap. I personally couldn't control the GOD saw very well so I picked a different weapon (but still certed out the god saw for when I am better). As is I mostly play Engineer, LA and Infiltrator... and MAX if the situation requires it (AV all the time :D ).
  9. Posse

    At close range, yes.

    At close range, again.

Don't want to sound mean, but you really need to get out and play HA more instead of sniping behind trees as an Infiltrator. What Paisty said was dead-on accurate. Todays HA is nothing more than a slow moving easy headshot target for Infis. Yeah they have alot of tools...most of which have been nerfed to hell and back.

Its gotten so bad that most ppl prefer(including myself) to assault or lock down a room with a Medic instead of HAs

lol no, everything he said is wrong

And I hope you don't tell me to get out and play HA more.

stepping around the corner and putting a missile in your face. yep that pretty much sums it up.

    At most ranges.

For example, the Pulsar C has the accuracy of the best LMGs, but less recoil, and is only really limited by lower projectile velocity and magazine size. I find it quite competitive with pretty much any LMG at any range.

If I'm fighting at long range, Ursa or Flare are better. In CQC, SMGs are better.

I like the Orion a lot, but it only excels at short-medium range in comparison to other LMGs.
  14. Moisture

False and just outright laughably simplistic of a thing to say and easily dismissed as such.
Althose as a NC player I might have an advantage but I am competitive at all ranges and excel at most ranges
The problem you are having is behind the keyboard. You should examine what you are doing more closely, What are you doing that makes you get shot more then other classes? All I can imagine you are doing wrong is being out in the open and expecting your shield to save you from your own bad positioning. You are no slower then any other class EVER unless you chose too.
I die less from snipers as HA then other classes period.
  15. Alarox

The only reason I prefer Medic over HA anymore is that I don't like using medkits or relying on other players to heal me. The HA is the best combat class, hands down.

    Hmm...

I've always viewed the Heavy Assault as just that, a heavily assault oriented soldier with the options to handle pretty much any given situation that involves the eradication of a target.
    • You need infantry mowed down, the Heavy Assault can do that...
    • You need vehicles taken down, the Heavy Assault can do that...
    • You need MAX units taken down, the Heavy can do that...
    • You need aircraft taken down, the Heavy Assault can help with that...
They can work alone or supplement assaulting forces...they're just a backbone soldier. Basically, the warrior class of the Planetside 2 world.
  17. Posse

And less DPS than the Orion

Short-medium range is 90% of the engagements, a LMG that is only good for long ranges is garbage, the Orion it the best weapon a heavy can use at not so close range while also having CQC, medium and long range capabilities

I think SOE has changed their mind on that.

In their next balance update, they aim to nerf the shield anyhow, even calling it a "I-WIN" button.

I guess their role is going to be changed to a more specialized one, like Soft AV and Fire Support.
  19. Hiding in VR

I already believe the Overshield is a penalty to the class because the movement penalty combined with the lack of head protection means activating your shield makes you easier to kill for anyone with an semi accurate weapon/aim. I know this from playing Engineers and it is the reason I have been playing HA less an less.

If I can no longer use the Overshield during those "Oh Crap" moments, then I will be playing other classes.

    Indeed, I noticed that Siner...

While I understand the methodology, it probably does warrant an increase in effectiveness within other areas of the ability. For example, as VR mentioned, the slowing effect of the shield being the weakness to the ability itself...that might change now that it has a rev up period. Who knows...with an additional weakness being added, the slowing effect may be removed completely. I still believe that they're a backbone class...but now they may not be able to lone wolf as easily.

Not sure, but if I ran a Heavy Assault...I'd be trying to get the speed reduction removed now that a new weakness is being implemented.
