What's my performance bottleneck?

Here's a screenshot of my CPU usage, GPU usage and framerate in a 96-96 battle: (rivatuner statistics in top left, framerate bottom left)

    Here are my settings:

    My system specs are:
    i5 6600k @ 4.6Ghz
    8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 @ 2133Mhz (single channel)
    Asus DirectCU II HD 7950 @ 1Ghz, 1250Mhz memory
Samsung 840 Pro 240GB (planetside installed to this)

I have no applications running in the background, cleared all my background processes etc. The CPU and GPU usage never spike to 100% but I'm running below 60 FPS. No idea what my bottleneck is.

The DEV's have a new compiler MS-2015 the new compiler is not as fast as the old 2012 compiler...but the new one does more with the graphics. Get use to 60 FPS. The days of 100 FPS are gone.

Do you know if planetside responds well to more cores instead or higher clock speeds?

Higher core speed, 100%. Some people might tell you to buy an 1800$ CPU for it's 10 cores, but I promise you will get great performance with a nice OC'd i5-6600k clocked at the 4.5GH'z range.

Ima say that GPU. Your CPU should be fine for this game. In heavy battles I'm getting around 60-80 FPS. Im using a 980 ti GTX gaming 6G. In the skies I'm easily over 100+ FPS. This is on everything ultra and 4km render range. MY CPU is i7 5820k but I don't think that will have much bearing on this game. Its 6 core but I mainly got it just because I do alot of video editing.

Your GPU is killing you if you want decent frame rate go at least 2 gig memory I would jump on the new 1060 for about the same price as a good 2 gig GPU ps it has 6 gigs of the new ddr5.

Shadows decrease performance a lot, you can try lowering shadow quality.

Press alt-f when playing - PS2 will tell you what the bottleneck is (bottom left corner) either CPU or GPU.

My guess is GPU - 7950 is a bit old and way surpassed by 470/480 or 1060 but you can tweak the settings to make it better.

What the DEV's said; is they are pushing toward more cores. As are all game companies are now. PS2 is well balanced in a multi core machine. IE. it can run on 10 / 8 / 6 / 4 core... number of processes is spread among the cores.

Core1 & Core2 is the main graphics cores. Core3 take care of the textures if you have 4 cores. 4 cores has ~50 process's to handle and the more cores you have the less process's a core takes care of. (runs better)

If you are running a HD monitor 100-144HZ you need either crossfire or SLI..

Remember that PS4 uses 8 cores and that is what PS2 is now built around. You 7950 is what the PS4 has in the core basically for the graphics.

If you video edit you want a 10 core processor just to save the render time.

DOH - just looked at the screenshot, realised you have alt-f already and the game engine is saying GPU.

Based on the evidence - if I were to take a truly wild stab in the dark - i'd suggest it's your graphics card that is limiting you ;)
