From the looks of things, they probably don't have any artists on hand at the moment. I think that may explain the lack of new models and changes in the graphics in the longest time. The last I can remember was the new deploy animation on the sunderer but for all we know those already existed and just needed to be implemented. The game is out of Beta, so realistically most of their budget for the game is already spent (that being the cost of artists). Right now I can imagine the studio has only a handful of programmers and the occasional PR guy who's more or less a freelance worker and isn't there on a daily basis. So I'm wondering, when do you think SOE will use the money they earned from the launch to pay for artists to actually give us "NEW" content. Notice I said "new". New is not those guns they just added which are re-used skins with slightly changed stats. This kind of thing reinforces the idea that SOE is just a couple programmers at this time.
Last I heard from beta is that they are working on all new models for the weapons, it is just taking some time. In the meantime there is no reason that can't release new weapons simply using the same skin as existing models until the new models are all ready. Who knows though, everyone knows how MMO and game companies in general love to just reskin **** and slap a new tag on it.
You have no idea what you are talking about, I'm sorry. SOE has artists, SOE has a lot of everything, but the company runs on shared resources model. This means that an artist at any given time could be creating art for any of the games that SOE runs, it could be Everquest 1, Everquest 2, Planetside 2, Free Realms, etc etc etc.. Today is the first time since launch that they've released something new. I wouldn't go as far as what you are assuming until they've released quite a few more things. By the way, there could be a good reason they haven't added new texture yet. It could be that they're optimizing & bug fixing, so they don't want to introduce new assets into the game until they are ready to add them.
They wanted to release the game as a complete game(or atleast mostly) however the game is still in the beta, the holidays are coming up and this is the time to pull in mad cash. It's stupid not to release the game right now just it's not complete. Gun models are probably the last of their priorities. You have completely misinterpreted my post. I'm just stating that they probably don't have artists there in the studio on a regular basis unless they call them in to create things, which obviously costs them a lot of money. Your post is pretty much exactly what I said..
No you still don't understand how SOE works. SOE share resources amongst their games. So the artists they employ are likely working on creating art for multiple games during each given day. These art assets are often created in a batch, I know because I beta'ed for Everquest. The devs in EQ talked about how they submit the number of art & style they want to the art team, the art team whips them up and gives them like 500 art assets. Then the devs could plug the assets into the game and release them when they see fit. In this game, the art assets are likely either still in the works, or they have a big batch of them in the database already. They just haven't released them yet. And why haven't they? As I explained before, they have spent the past few weeks on bug fixing and optimization. The last thing programmers and coders want when fixing things, is to get a big batch order from the design team to add a bunch of new assets into the game, potentially complicating things.
